@@davestuddert4392 What are you even talking about? I guess you missed the part in the first 38 seconds of the video where Bob actually said “Human Bean”! So nobody was being critical of anyone! 🤦♂️
@@NeverEnoughPyro40 I guessed you missed the first 10 seconds of the intro where Bob says people contact him telling him he's wrong. They don't like him calling bigfoot a primate & argue that bigfoot is a human "bean". So yeah, they're being critical of Bob & his logic.... FYI Bob's being sarcastic about people saying the word "bean" instead of human BEING.
Hi Bob. I just wanted to take a moment here, to say that you, are among humanity’s absolute best. It is clear from what you share with us, that you are unassuming, deep, thoughtful, intelligent, concerned with what’s right, and honest. I know that’s not what you make videos about, but it deserves recognition, and it is all too rare that we recognize individuals for such important yet underestimated qualities. thank you for your hard work, and for the interesting, informative, thought provoking, and entertaining content.
I hope Cooper makes a full recovery and Mark can get everything he needs to cover all the bills. This kind of backing makes these already amazing videos all the better. You are a great friend to Mark and Cooper. Not to mention a wonderful RU-vidr. Keep doing what you do best Bob. Edit: spelling
@@BobGymlan They say the Denesovian race was similiar to Neaderthal but were huge as in 7 to 8 ft tall and some mated with Humans , some humans are walking around with both Denesovian and Nearderthal DNA. Who is to say they are not far off in that linage? Or what about the Bigfoot DNA Paulidas help gather unknown male Human female? The American Indians have tails of the Bigfoots attacking women and carring them off to breed them...
Most people of European descent and some of Asian descent have Neanderthal DNA. With Denisovan DNA, its inverted -- being more common among Asian people but not unheard of in Europeans
I donated to your friends gofundme solely because of how much I appreciate your videos. It is so rare to find honest, straightforward discussions of Sasquatch, or any other so-called cryptids.
Your dry sense of scientific sarcastic humor is greatly appreciated! I truly appreciate your intelligent, logical videos. I hope you have some role in education because you have a talent for effective, clear communication. Great content.
You know what Bob, thank you. Thank you for putting the effort into applying some science the way that you did to this topic. Not only have I rarely ever seen/heard this EVER brought up before, but I was hooked by how you articulated your thought's on things. So again with all honesty, thank you. I love your videos as well, keep up the great work.
"When a term can mean one of five things depending on who you're talking to, the term is garbage" Lmfao I like this guy already, subbed. I actually can't put into words how much of a kinship I share with your mind and the way you think about things such as religion, science, and the current paradigm of information on the Human species.
I always assumed bigfoot, if it's real, is a great ape that evolved in East Asia and moved over the land bridge to the Americas. It would likely be related to gigantopithecus or a similar, currently unknown species and its closest living relative would be orangutans. Who knows though. An ape-like primate from the Americas seems possible too.
i thought of cororopithicus the ancestor of modern gorillas as a common ancestor for the big hairy fuckers that live in the woods and steal apple pies off old ladies window seals "i mostly think this due to simularities between gorillas and squatches"

You are, without a doubt, my favourite content creator on this, or any platform. This channel is the only one I get excited about on RU-vid. The effort and care you put into your careful wording is evident in every video you you make. I just... I wanted to tell you how much I appreciate what you do!
Video was released 2hrs ago and already has 8k views. I'm glad more folks are catching on to you Bob. You really do bring a voice of reason to the subject. Before I discovered your videos I had all but given up on the subject. Shows like Finding Bigfoot made it embarrassing for me to admit that I thought the existence of Big Foot was even a possibility. Thanks keeping me interested.
" A self-aware Deer would be a very depressed thing ..... I' d imagine "- Socrates or Robert Gymlan 🤔one of those two geniuses . Well said Bob. On all points, from faith ,theology , to anthropology. Brilliant simply brilliant.
I see self awareness as a continuum along the taxonomy specification listing. A yearling whitetail buck isnt going to challenge a fully mature buck in his prime because the yearling senses the difference in size and strength. On the African plains Springbok jump high in the air to show predators that are eyeballing them as a potential meal, that they are physically fit and hard to catch. I think most animals are self aware to the extent they have to be in order to survive. It is only us humans that have taken self awareness to the point of vanity, deceit and psychological disorders such as narcissism.
It's refreshing to see someone be honest about classification of species. As a birdwatcher and scientifically minded person, I get into discussions all the time like "why did Nelson's sparrow get split" and "Larus gulls are not a ring species". The truth is that nature isn't math. With math, everything is very clear. One plus one always equals two. With biology, however, it's all trying to do the human tendency of classification and putting gradients into defined boxes. My favorite example is the Northern Flicker. It has two distinct morphs: the red-shafted and yellow-shafted (shaft as in the shaft of a feather). They interbreed in a thin area, but like a lot of birds, there's a a split in range: yellow-shafted to the east of the rockies, red-shafted to the west. Having lived in both regions, the red-shafted and yellow-shafted have a behavioral divide. In my experience, yellow-shafted tend to flock more often and are less likely to make calls when alone. Red-shafted are noisier in general, but don't actually make their rattling mating call as much as the yellow-shafted. However, they're just one species.
I especially like your statement about being able to listen to something one may not agree with without getting upset. That is an evolutionary leap a long time in coming Mr Gymlan.
Bob's video's, commentaries are so superb, articulated and forethought that his videos are to the point of start and not look away untill the next feed. . a very bright and interesting being himself that keeps us learning
Bob ! Salutations from the Middle east, This treasure of a Channel you have here is One of the few original and decent materials in this vast ocean of mediocrity and awfulness called internet..
@@kanetoad7808 I'm not aware of any unknown primate encounters in my region (the levant), although I heard stories from credible people about wild men in the deserts of Algerian-libyan borders , described as aggressive folks who are covered in reddish hair! And that they live in caves and throw huge rocks sometimes to scare people off.. Paranormal in the middle east is just (normal) specially in the countrysides People still talk about , tomb guardians (rasid) and Jinn , and they don't joke about it! My father , who is a professor of political sciences (now 68 years old) considers himself as a man of logic , still talks about that one Evening when he and my uncle ( 14 and 16 years old) were chased by ( screaming/crying "goat-lady" like creature 😅)in the hills of Of the depopulated town of suba near Jerusalem.. It always gives me goosebumps when he talks about it and the look on his face is bone chilling ..
And, FYI, you say things I disagree with all the time, but I'm never upset by it, or think any less of you, on the contrary, you sit at the highest platform of respect I accord the various sasquatch researchers I habitually follow. Awesome upload, and as always, excellent work by the artist as well, the two of you make for a genius communication force.
That's a really good point about self-awareness/sentience. deer aren't dumb they just have no need for reflecting on themselves, they're simple, but that doesn't mean bad.
I take comfort in the knowledge that I'm not the only person to think of the "Sasquatch is some sort of North American pseudo-ape" thing. Not sure why, maybe it's because it makes me feel like less of a maladaptive daydreaming crackpot who might have schizophrenia. Also I suggest reading into the now extinct giant lemurs of Madagascar, their existence makes the whole pseudo-ape thing seem considerably less farfetched.
I can't remember where I saw this or if it's even true, but I think I saw somewhere that lemurs are the only primate species that have eye shine which is also reported to be a trait of sasquatch.
All I can say about this is... WOW. I mean you effectively captured the risks involved with gaining knowledge in a completely unbiased or unreligious way. I needed this kick of information.
As a taxonomist I'm loving your analysis. You have a real mastery and enthusiasm for the subject. I think we should politely ask for a donated corpse that we can use as a "type specimen."
On one hand I want the bigfoot mystery to be solved once and for all with a type specimen and definitive scientific description, but maybe it's for the best if it never happens.
@@matthewfinger2381 Good point. I'm concerned for the wellbeing of the "Sasquatch." Part of the deal in which we get a corpse should be new laws that maintain the status quo for the Sasquatch. And maybe even make things a little better. For example, a promise to preserve land and help make the ecosystem better long term. We don't want the same thing that happened to North American indigenous people to happen to the them.
Hell yeah man. I like how you back up free speech , and how we should be able to listen (and talk about) to things we don't agree with, without getting stupidly upset about. Honestly not to long ago, to differing degrees it was like that. Don't be afraid to speak your mind, don't be afraid to listen when someone else does the same. 😎
Ya truth, I have lots of friends who I don't agree with on a great many things, I don't get why a disagreement is cause for ostracizing friends of years nowadays, hell some people reverb do it to thier family... Sad, and it's only causing more problems
@@domm5715 It's the new way things have unfolded over the last 20 years. It's like we started a new millenia and people lost the logic circuits in their brain. Granted humans have always been retarded but Media and Hollywood have divided us further than anything. I stopped watching sports because of idiot fans that caused divide in a game! I also don't support politics for the same reason. People have lost their damn minds even more lately. We need to leave people alone that aren't hurting others and same goes for the other side. No one needs to listen to idiots push their ideals on anyone. No wonder Bigfoot and the Aliens stays hidden.
@Dom M and @Michael Hodge , along with the OP, you have posted what may be the most positively intelligent thread I’ve read on RU-vid in aeons. Well, a long, long time. May you live your philosophies and allow them to flourish. Thanks 🙏 a million! Peace, and long life.
Hey Bob just wanted to thank you for such a well put together presentation!!!!! I learned much more in twenty minutes with you than hours with most of these big foot researchers, I agree with your perspective its a breath of fresh air !!!! Thanks again!!!
“A self-aware deer would be a very depressed deer, I would imagine”. That’s a hell of a line. Being aware of existence and mortality is enough to make some people pretty freakin depressed as well. Well done though. This is one of the best vids I’ve seen information wise. It has to take you forever to do these. Thank you, Sir.
8:43 💀💀💀 bro, that line "I took a nap...and afraid." I absolutely burst out laughing. Idk why but the delivery, coupled with your voice was absolutely perfect. ☠️☠️☠️
You are putting a solid theory out there , & defining the ideas with clear intelligent logic. You clearly know a LOT about anthropology ,& genus .Your use of the porcupines from separate continents, eg. kicked ass !
In my opinion for me he is already at the league of people like John Green, Jane Goodall, Krantz, All of the those names. Dude is a thorough researcher. Cold hard facts. He is the internets age of modern zoologist. There is still mysteries left in the field of zoology and on this planet. When these intelligent animals are finally proven to be in FACT REAL. Its going to be a paradigm shift, it will change how we see the woods. And National parks here in the us. And all over the world. How does the population react to that??? Knowing we have close kin? Or biological mirrors of ourselves out there. Its fucking fascinating. Its going to freak the shit out of people. Those who thought bigfoot was in the same fantasy area as the easter bunny or santa or “”””UFOS””””” oh wait
I wish I could do more than offer my support and good will, but here we are. Your segments are one of the best things I’ve ever seen on RU-vid. Thank you as usual.
Bob, what an incredibly thought provoking video. Can’t wait fro part two. We all need to hear differing points of view and thoughts other than our own. When something isn’t concrete, then all opinion and thought is valid.
My first time coming across one of your uploads. I just want to say your freaking awesome. I've subscribe and like and now I'm off to watch more of your uploads.
Bob, been following you from the beginning! Your insights, perspectives, and perception, are eclipsed only by your articulation! Being a biologist, I've always thought how high intelligence would present in an advanced creature with robust physiology, and lacking the human propensity for mischief! Sasquatch! Thanks for doing what you do!
I keep coming back to this video. Something about it sticks with me so peculiarly. It’s complicated but I think this video helps me understand in a small way how we came to be “conscious” and I appreciate that alone. I also love how you can make something like taxonomy interesting. Thinking of you today Bob. Chin up, chest out!
Just seen the “4 F’s of motivations and instincts” for the first time. 4-5 time watching this video. Bob always hides some gems and this one made me spit out water. Bravo Bob!
You’re the first person to notice!!! Or at least, you’re the first to comment. Do people not read the words? If so, I’m wasting a lot of time lol Thanks a lot Justin
@@BobGymlan you’re welcome and admittedly I do not read them all the time. But that is why I rewatch, for the hidden gems. Your videos are always so in depth as it is, but you also have great small things in there as well. Everyone should always rewatch each video to catch them. I love finding the things I’ve missed the first time watching.
I love the point at 4:17 when Bob (for the first time, in my experience) has to stifle a laugh! It added a little personal touch to the video, which like all of his work.....is bloody brilliant. Also, the postulations he presents at the 24 minute mark are very eloquently put.👍
This reminds me of old youtube. No talking head, no face reveal, just information and opinion about a subject most people couldn't care less about from someone willing to entertain the dumb maybe trolling comments to other videos. Subscribed.
I've been waiting for another video in this style since I first started following you bob. Absolutely love this stuff. Not to discount your recent work of course. Great work my friend, please keep it up. 🤘
Having the pleasure of watching this one early. How about putting the gofoundme link in the description or in the comments? I bet a lot of people might have missed the community post.
Hi Bob, great video as always. I’m pretty inexperienced in the world of paleo anthropology (I’m specializing in dinosaurs and similar fauna) but it was really interesting to hear about the North American primates. If we look at what happened in the early Triassic or with the dinosaurs it’s not hard to imaging something convergently evolving in a relatively short time (again look at how quickly the dinosaurs got huge). I’m also really glad you mentioned elephants, somehow I find they get overlooked a lot when people talk about intelligent animals and I think they’re just as smart as we are even if the don’t use it in the same way. This is getting long but thanks for the video and keep up the good work.
Don't want to sound odd (thought perhaps that apprehension is odd in itself?) but you truly have a beautiful mind. I can't really focus on videos I'm even passionate about well, but I always feel drawn in by yours. Fantastic video, regardless!
I'm usually at attention for all Bob G videos but I guess I forgot the past few months. I actually just caught up last night and introduced my bf to Bob videos. He loved it. Thr cool thing is that now that I'm caught up, I actually catch a new video! I'm all kinds of happy right now!
Well, the face of the "creature" in the Patterson-Gimlin film is identical to some Homo Erectus skulls, especially the Peking man skull. Divergent evolution is my bet, that we are closer than we seem to be at first. This also explains the "language" in recordings like the Sierra Sounds.
From the claims of initial DNA testing they say it's an unknown primate pretty close in percentage to human but not quite, however I take those lightly as all secondary DNA tests have to be done by authorities in order to be confirmed and that's where they "disappear"
I enjoy hearing your thoughts and reasoning. This video has brought up a question I’ve wanted to hear you discuss. That would be the age/timeframe of 50milion yrs ago or anything millions of years ago. It’s used like a absolute fact. There are so many variables and assumptions in carbon dating. I’m not questioning it from a biblical view either.
Thanks Bob, I really enjoy your opinions regarding the subjects you cover in your videos. It's refreshing hearing such common sense from a young man like yourself.
Bob, I love your informational posts, your intelligence, your command of the language and especially your wonderful sense of humor and last but not least, your incredible storytelling. You just rescued my day! Thank you!!
I think it is great to come across someone who has found a balance between a healthy type of skepticism and being open minded. As a senior citizen and a lifelong student of epistemology I can assure you that these traits are rare across a wide range of researchers on this planet, especially those confronting any controversial subject. I have been looking seriously into this subject for the past three or four years now mainly via the online world. Regarding North American "bigfoots" I had concluded (1) that the creatures exist and (2) that they are hominid but not hominin according to the latest scientific classification standards. I have now also concluded that (3) they are probably descended from or branched from the family of the New World Monkeys or Ceboidea rather than Hominidae.(So yes I agree with your conclusions of convergent evolution.) Finally, I think that (4) they are sentient but have not developed analytical reasoning to the degree Homo Sapiens has, hence they do not show the kind of culture that we humans exhibit. I am not saying that they lack intelligence in that sense but their "evolutionary strategy" has led to a significantly different lifestyle than ours. These conclusions are based on the current dearth of definitive evidence of course. I have "connected the dots" in my own way.
Thank whatever there is out there that there is an intelligible being in the Sasquatch community. I solely watch your content because there is actual scientific analysis in your mental process towards every situation and story you face and work on for an upload. A true, honest content creator. Thank you.
I forgot to mention, you genuinely deserve hundreds of thousands of more viewers, I hope other people will realize the amount of work you put into this content.
Dear Mr. Gymlan, I have a degree in Anthropology. Please do not allow the vacuous keyboard warrior types to discourage you. Keep up the good work. Thank you for the video.
One of your most meandering ( in the good way, like a hike through an unknown woods ), philosophical, almost neurotic thought journey into this mystery. Your docs. keep getting more funky good. Perfect mix of science, philosophy, spirituality, and artist. Great Job!
20:20 I'd like to share my model of "consciousness", as I believe there are separate things here that are commonly muddled together: Sentience is "experiencing", or qualia, inciuding emotion, and is an awareness. "Self-awareness" is the modeling of oneself as a distinct entity. And "intelligence" is the ability to accomplish complex goals in complex environments (my favorite, working definition, from the AI researcher Ben Goertzel, as it requires one to "generalize" -- notice patterns). Humans happen to have all three. Other creatures can have [almost] any combination and amount of these three: Mice for example probably experience (have some sentience) but probably do not model themselves (no self-awareness) and can achieve simpler goals. All animals can generalize to accomplish complex goals in complex environments -- but to vastly different extents. AI systems can have some amount of general intelligence while not experiencing anything and not modeling themselves.
'Mountain beast' come on man really? Maybe I should start calling you humans 'city beasts' or something. I live in caves and have tree nest structures throughout my woods to stay in when I get caught in the rain and I'm too far from my caves so no I don't live in the rain and wind lol
I look for potentially new Gymlan uploads probably every other day... Love this channel! I personally love how you don't claim to know for a fact anything about these "creatures". I usually cut any conversation with people that think they know things for fact similar to the comment you referred to in the beginning of this video. 👏👏👍
Excellent, excellent video Bob and much needed! There's too many folks out there that have maybe and I say maybe actually witnessed a Big Foot for a few seconds seem to think they can come to all these conclusions about Big Foot including the fact that they're human and they're this and that... maybe those folks need to practice a little humility. Humility is at least partly about the ability to say "I don't know". The insights that you have and you're ability to express them are, well... enviable. I as always look forward to Part 2 of this video with more "nitty gritty" stuff!
Shit, I love you man. You’re the only Individual on RU-vid (that I know of) who can be both so succinctly critical in thinking and simultaneously hilarious. Awesome 👏
I absolutely love your videos, because when I watch them the first time, I'm hanging on every word and stunned with how thoroughly researched they are, and how scientific and objective your approach is, but on subsequent viewings, they're totally asmr because of how even and practiced your voice is. Keep up the good work! We love you!
Great sense of humor ....dancing gamely on the knife's edge ...I think the " Bigfoot is Human " bunch are the same people who talk about our " space brothers"
You're legitimately one of my favorite creators. Curiosity is rarely combined with intellectual honesty, and most people who have both are not going to spend time on Bigfoot. Good fuckin yard, Bob.
In a couple generations a domestic pig turns into a boar with tusks and hair if left in the wild. Would if a human left in the wild goes through a fast evolutionary process and turns into sasquatch.
I have been watching all of your older videos and I have to say that you are amazing at this. I have been following you for years now and it’s always a great joy to hear/see your work! Thanks for sharing this and having the guts to share your thoughts on this subject. Okay Thank Bob if that’s your real name. Lol
