I'm 41 years old my mom has been taking me to the monster trucks since I was 2 years old ,it's a family tradition of ours😊 Turlock California every year and Bigfoot was always my number one ,Bob Chandler was such a gentleman when I was a little boy I got tossed a t-shirt in the crowd and this old guy snatched it from me, bob saw that and had security come and get me and my mom and gave me a personal tour and my mother tour of the semi truck, the trailer ,extra Motors extra parts etc and I left with a ton of stuff that I still own and cherish to this days a autographed checkered flag that has Skoal bandit Showtime grave digger bearfoot etc ,just feels good to share that story with like-minded individuals😊 the good old days 😊✌️🇺🇲
For all those with Negative comments about the Speed of this race. These trucks had leaf spring Suspension which is stiff, with the springs on these heavier than a tractor trailer 20 shock absorbers per corner wouldnt soften them up enough, they got a lot faster as they got suspension upgrades, Bob came up with a cantilever /4 link chassis on coil over shocks that are still used today in a refined form .
Exactly this is what started monster trucks people don't seem to get this lol you can't compare it to today but we wouldn't have today's technology with out the beginning of monster trucks lol
I’m gen z and 17 years old and I would just know this stuff while doing research on various trucks and understand how the technology evolved even if I wasn’t born lol
That was a good race. It was FIXED, but it was good. That big hesitation at the beginning by USA 1 PROVED that it was rigged. But, what ever. I just would've liked to see an ACTUAL race, instead of just a Bigfoot commercial.
Thank you for the walk down memory lane! I remember watching this episode of "That's Incredible" when it first aired and I was a wide-eyed little kid. I miss those days when monster trucks looked like and were actual trucks. The modern, tube framed monster trucks of today with their fiberglass 3D bodies are also amazing machines but to me there is just something irresistibly cool about the old trucks that the new ones will never ever be able to replicate. I guess that you just had to have been there back then and actually seen them in person (like I did) to understand my love of the old monster trucks.
They are working on putting together an old school series. They do have old school monster truck races and car crushes. Check out shaker racing here on RU-vid. He campaigns an old school dentside Ford called Earthquake.
The original crawler lol. I remember watching this. I was 10 years old and I love Bigfoot evidence I said ever since damn voice to text. I have a Traxxas RC Bigfoot and I just ordered the new one that came out today. My second favorite truck is grave digger. I don’t know why we don’t have shows like this anymore on TV.
Best car crush EVER. I miss the days when they just crawled all over the cars, and one good wheelie or a short jump onto the junkers was AMAZING. I admit that the modern Monsters are incredible machines but, like modern NASCAR 'cars,' they've lost their connection to average people in average lives. These things - well, PARTS of them - started their lives as REAL trucks, and they were designed and built largely by skilled blue-collar mechanics. Once again, I absolutely respect the ingenuity and educated engineering that goes into the modern trucks. But they lack the charm of enthusiastic imperfection. Thanks for uploading.
In the hyper-law era, every imperfection is some lawyers ticket to the gravy train. Your average blue collar mechanic goes out and get tractor tires, buffs 'em and hard carves in a tread. The tire explodes during the run and the spotter on the ground, or maybe a spectator, loses an eye, or maybe just claims to have gotten a concussion. How would that play out in 1983 vs. today?
Yeah. Everett said the steering wasn’t working properly either and he didn’t realize it until they were on the cars so there was no going back. They radioed Bob to slow down or act stuck to give Everett a chance and make the race more engaging
I got to sit in that truck in 1984. The driver put me in it and let me play. I was 6 years old. It was at the Nashville , TN fairgrounds. I was hooked from then on!
I remember when I was a young kid, Bob chandler came into the frame building shop across the street from my home, and he was pitching the idea to Gene lynch to build the frame for the first Bigfoot for a percentage of the Bigfoot franchise.(I think like 7% of total income) Gene was totally offended by the idea and angrily threw Bob Chandler out of his kitchen. Bob comely rolled his blueprints up, and says to me, "remember this moment kid, this is the day this man(Gene lynch, Gateway raceway frames) passed on making his fortune" then went on to say if he won't build this someone else will, and its gonna be the biggest thing to ever hit the 4x4 Industry as Gene holered and screamed for Bob to get out! He wasn't building this guy's play toy for him!!!.... ha, did Gene really screw that one up, as Bob chandler was right and went on to build the Bigfoot franchise to quit a business I'd say. Way to stick with your dreams sir!
It's funny to watch these videos now. It was so exciting watching them when I was a kid. Now if they don't jump 150ft , ride a wheelie , or do a backflip nobody is impressed..
Watching a video clip from "That's Incredible" makes me feel like a kid again. My step brother and I would regularly watch monster trucks and tractor pulling on "Powertrax" and "Trucks And Tractor Power" TV shows.
I prefer the old monster trucks over the modern light weight tube frame shit today. Back then the monster trucks were real trucks and the crash cars were complete with chrome and glass. Also these trucks did not need any ramps to get onto the crash cars. While today the trucks barely touch the crash cars, back then they were really driving over and crashing them!
I was younger 6 or 7 when this came out. Years later, I got a remote control one. Good times, I ran over my sister's barbies. 14 was my record, I ran out of barbies, sis crying and Mom yelled at me. I could have doubled it, maybe tripled it depending on the batteries.
Lol, same age I drove over my sisters barbie tea party with a pedal tank...it was glorious! Especially when I backed up over the carnage for a second go round. My mother tells me the story, said I was making squealing noises like some animal ! I guess my sis pissed me off ! LMAO
MandelaEffect-. I watched this video in 2018 and the truck on the left was white. My very first memory on tv in 1983 of these types of trucks was a blue truck along side a white one.
@@huckstirred7112 100% ,I also thought it was the other white with red decal truck called "All-American" offroadaction.ca/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/allamerican4.jpg
Remember this when I was a kid. Probably looks boring by today's standards. This was amazing back in the day. We had seen Bigfoot in the movie Take This Job and Shove It.
Ruff Riders yeah! I was 13. It was a family tradition basically to watch it. Couldn’t wait for John Davidson, Cathy Lee Crosby & Fran Tarkington! Part of the TV lineup with Chips, Dukes etc..
Think Bob was holding back just a lil bit being that he and Everett are friends he and Bigfoot could have won that race by a huge margin. Love these classic monster truck videos!
Supposedly, the film crew was on a 2 way with Bob telling him to ease off a bit so that it wasn t a blow out. Plus, this event was the 1st time out for USA #1 with the 66 inch tires so I figure Everett was being a bit cautious too.
Bigfoot has the pedal to the metal she says! Not hardly the original Bigfoot had a 641 Cubic inch blown ford 429/460 Block making over 1000 Hp. The motor was set up for Nitros but never needed. The creator of the monster truck and a real nice guy. Ford F-Series best selling truck 41 years straight.
Ha I was born in 73 as well and remember watching this on tv and loved monster trucks since. Just bought a Bigfoot traxxas and already have my Grave Digger one from 9 years ago.
@@pepeiann. Did you not understand what I said, I said people would pay good money now for those car bodies now, they weren't worth a damn then because they weren't that old, jeesh!
@@terryyork6401. Did you not see my other comment above, I said people would pay good money for them [now] >No foresight that the car bodies would be worth a lot of money and 20 or 30 years;-)
I feel like a kid, as I watched this when it PREMIERED! Oh, such times of innocence...! Take care & Thanks for sharing this video from my youth, 🤓 -Thomas Skagen Western Washington State
Just think if it were not for Bob and the first BIG FOOT all the others may not even exist today ! They all should think him for all the fun they have had.
I remember I had a metal big foot toy truck n I got n2 a fight wit my neighbors son n I hurled the toy truck at him n hit him dead on his forehead and the blood gushed out quickly.. Bigfoot is tuff!!
I remember watching this as a kid I was born in 73, so I was probably 8 or 9 years old. I also remember when RL OSBORNE on his BMX bike raced a horse. There’s a few shows that I remember that’s incredible was one solid gold was another what happened to TV we don’t have shows like that anymore. I think the problem now is we have too many streaming stations I don’t think I’ve watched the original 2,4,5,7,9&11 channels in so long. Even sitcom when is the new sitcom coming out I guess when you have a lot to pick from it kind of messes things up in a weird way.
@@turboking9238 I think Jimmy means, these were real steel bodied trucks on actual truck frames, as opposed to fiberglass silhouette bodies on purpose built tube frame chassis. Nothing wrong with that, just different.
I was lucky enough to get this and all the other old Bigfoot and other trucks on a dvd thru amazon it has hours and hours of old footage it's worth checking out
Always a Bigfoot fan. From the time I had my Bigfoot power wheels clear up to this day. Still enjoy seeing them come to my local town fall festival and crush some cars in the Rite Aid parking lot. Always a good show and to me it never gets old.
That's also what gives the trucks the 4-wheel steering that allows for all the stunts that monster trucks are known for. The use of tube-frame chassis for both weight reduction and safety was also Bob Chandler's invention, debuting with Bigfoot 8. All monster truck fans owe Bob a big heap of thanks.
#memories full frame crazy crawl ratio! Still had a freaking dashboard! Yes kids back in the day they were real trucks! I remember when this aired I remember everything amount classic Bigfoot! Best childhood memories! Usa-1 always sucked!
But the in-studio crowd never yelled "That's Incredible" to close the segment. The studio always yells That's Incredible to end all segments. Bigfoot and USA-1 got ripped off. I never realized competitive side-side car crushing was occurring in '83. I thought single trucks were still exhibition crushing 2 or 4 piled cars; just up and over for county fair crowds, at that time. Thought competitions started around mid '84, but obviously my thinking was wrong. And who knew USA-1 was not white originally. Pretty cool how Bob Chandler inspired a billion dollar sport/industry/ just from crashing a few cars with a lifted, modified F250 in his backyard for fun. The godfather of monster trucks.
USA1s steering broke when the race started, otherwise it would of been balls to the wall. Both trucks had CB radios so Bigfoot slowed up when he was informed of it and made it look a little more difficult than what it was. USA1 pretty much did this with no steering, he went slow not to wander off the cars. This was the very first time ever USA1 had 66” inch tires put on it.
Ditto Daehawk : the reason for going so slow was because of the front steering pivot axle area was prone to snap and gave no warning signs to drivers that they were pushing their luck. One hard bump and that was it. U joints, Ball joints, steering hubs (before the age of planetary gear sets) were not considered with the idea of having wheels so large attached. It's changed.
It was also the 1st time BF and USA#1 really used the 66in tires. My guess they didn t want to break on national tv. According to Bob Chandler, Everette was wrenching on USA#1 right up to the taping.
It's funny watching this and you notice no one is wearing any kind of protective gear and Bob Chandler hanging out the window but they're only going 5mph at the most.
