Nice. That size Snook has to be a fun fight. Those things are like salty smallies.

They sure are, remind you I do have a Daiwa Medium Heavy rod with 4000 reel, so I'm definitely able to horse them in easier. Seems like a lot of other fishermen use 3000 or 2500 reels, but I think mine is the perfect setup considering tight location I'm at. I get a big one and I have to keep'em away from the cement columns on the bridge, this setup should help. Even when I cast near those columns, when I'm jerking the x-rap, the fluorocarbon gets frayed by the barnacles on the columns, then I gotta change my leader out after a few hours. These guys are pros, seems like they enjoy using lighter gear, but they're fishing from a boat and have a wide open area to fight them. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JwyZtWA844c.html Weird how I see a lot of fishermen uses the 2500 and 3000 spinning setups, but then I've seen other fishermen use musky setups like this dude here with a tranx baitcaster. I guess it all depends what you like, where you're fishing from, canal or out on an ocean, from a boat, etc... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-M-v8ORTftTw.html Yep, they definitely remind me of the strength of the smallies, but definitely fight differently, kind of have characteristics of musky, how finicky they can be, how a small window opens up hour before dusk, the many followups and finicky strikes, also they're lengthier profile. I'm fishing february and march, I mean maybe it's a lot easier to target the bigger ones in spring and summer months. Those smaller ones were a lot easier to catch, seems like as they get bigger, they're smarter and more finicky. I heard from the locals you "have to use" fluorocarbon because how finicky they can get. "can be one of the most fish in the ocean" bullbuster.net/community/articles/how-to/do-i-need-fluorocarbon-to-catch-snook Not sure if I said this, but I was basically 1 for 8 yesterday, I had so many hits and misses. Insane! Bunch of other ones could have been smaller snook, but I know a few of them must of been bigger snook. It's definitely a challenge!

Mark and Ian, seems as though Google/RU-vid removed your comments, they have an automatic AI that will remove if you make a comment too quick and short. Same thing happens on Arcastings channel and I've talked to him about it. I've changed the setting a few days ago, "approve all comments" yet it still does it. Crazy, even RU-vid deleted my own comment on my own video, because I guess I used a word they didn't like. Google = Skynet, Skynet = Google 😝

There ya go! Good fish. Be careful when handling because they have a razor sharp gill plate. I saw a guy get cut pretty bad when his Snook wriggled from his hand and he tried to catch it. If it falls just let it go. Hey keep your eyes open for other species of Snook, sometimes they are hard to tell apart. The other one I am familiar with the locals called a Fat Snook. Similar looking fish.

Haha, well that's nothing new, at least one musky out of the bunch always manages to get me. But I know what you mean, the snook are stronger pound for pound, they wiggle more and I do feel the sharpness under there. Yeah, I think I saw some other species you mentioned online, what makes saltwater so much more fun. Ahhh, fat snook, I'll have to look that one up, maybe it's like the tiger musky of musky, lol.

@@EternalAngler haha yes I have had many dumb moments when fish draw blood because of my own handling mistakes. I think the fat Snook almost gets as big as the common and looks a little different. I hope you can hook into a few others where you're fishing. You could get a seatrout- red drum- snapper- bonefish- or even a tarpon. And lots more depending on your location. I know you're a musky and bass guy so I hope you also get a chance to go inland for some florida bucketmouths. 2 years ago I got a 6 1/2 and my buddy got an 7 on lake kissimmee. We caught about 20 other bass but those were the only 2 fish over 3 pounds.

@@georgeg9111 inshore slama jama! I'd probably have to switch between different lures to catch those other species, but hey, never know since I'm going to marco island soon, better spots to fish over there. I'd love to get me a tarpon, that species is absolutely gorgeous, the way they fight truly incredible. I heard in certain spots of florida cant keep any of the three fish from the inshore slammer due to red ride, sad. Dont plan on keeping anything, mainly a sport fishermen(sure you know that), but sad to see they're having same problems down here like we're having up in michigan. Yeah, probably not till next year if I go for any florida strain largemouth. Be cool to maybe tie into peacock bass, I think they're an invasive species, but heard they're pretty good fighters. No kidding, 6 1/2 and 7 pounder, that's pretty impressive! Heard some of the largemouth in Lake Okeechobee get into the double digits... George Perry's bass was caught in Georgia right, not too far from Florida, got some huge bass down here, be neat to just see something over 10 pounds in person. Hopefully I'll be able to bring the underwater drone down here next year and see what's lurking beneaht, just worried about alligators, sharks eating it lol. So far haven't heard of any apex predators eating drones, fingers crossed lol.

Yeah when Northern Mike lived down here, I was expecting him to say he's caught some 8, 9 or 10 possibly 11 and 12 pounders like Roland Martin, but I guess certain lakes only have the monsters or you gotta have a boat to get to them! I think he said he got a 7 pounder or something, he recently made a comment about it, he had remarked what lake it was, forgot.

@@EternalAngler mike told me about his big florida bass too on one of his videos. Yes I think it was just over 7 and I can't remember the lake name either but I think it was just north of okeechobee. I think overall a lot of fishing shows tend to exaggerate the frequency of double digit bass. I don't think they do it on purpose. I think it's such a sought after trophy in the bass world that shows make it seem like everybody has a good shot at one. There are plenty of double digit bass down there and sure it takes luck and skill but they're not as common as they would lead you to believe. In my opinion up north a 5-6 pounder is like a 8-9 down south. I think mike was probably more proud of his 6 pound Smallmouth than his southern Largemouth but who knows. Anyway keep it up down there, I miss that type of fishing. I'm flying out to Sacramento this morning for work. I'll be there for 6 days but I'm going to keep up with you to see what else you can get there. I may have 1 or 2 free days and if I can get out to a good California bass lake I'll let you know how I do.
