Considering the Eagles won a SB as a result of all this, and the Dolphins haven't even won a playoff game yet, I'd say the Eagles are the main protagonist here.
When Kelly was fired Roseman had a ton of pressure on him. He was there when Reid was let go, and initially was involved with building personnel. Kelly went 10-6 year 1 and for whatever reason he was given the keys to the castle after that. Apparently Howie and Chip didn’t agree on a lot, and Howie kept his job but lost all control over personnel and negotiations. In hindsight I am grateful he was willing to stay and he proved himself as a solid GM. Turning around what Chip did was miraculous. If you compared the eagles roster to a body chip kelly left them with only bones. 1. traded LeSean McCoy for Kiko Alonso 1:1 2. Released Desean Jackson under contract and took the cap hit 3. Released Vick 4. Let Maclin walk 5. Traded Foles to the rams for Dr glass himself Sam bradford 6. Splurged on demarco Murray after he had 400 touches the year before with Dallas Howie took the pieces of that team, and built a champions roster. He’s also shown he listens to the fans and when he misses on picks he can hit home runs in free agency. He also gets a person every so often during the season that gives them a boost.
“The dolphins are the main protagonist of this story” Howie Roseman with 2 Super Bowl appearances in the time spans of this video including a Super Bowl victory…. Go Birds 🦅
The niners wanted to draft CJ Beathard in 2017, so they scouted him at Iowa. However they also liked a tight end by the name of George Kittle, so they decided to draft him in the fifth round. After Beathard left them for the jags, they got a compensatory pick which turned into Brock Purdy. So yep, one backup quality QB helped to make the core of the niners today
@@Phillygoat1983 I called my dad first thing. I usually miss the second half of the Super Bowl because of my work schedule but I made sure to stay up for the whole thing! I didn’t even sleep I was on cloud 9 going to to modells getting the early gear and ordering everything else on fanatics.
Another little sub plot that stems from this is the coaching situation in philly. Chip Kelly, in spite of his offense so basic a child could see whats coming, had 2 winning seasons prior. It was controversial whether he should stay or not. Getting embarrassed by Kirk Cousins on TNF was the game that ended those talks. There was an overwhelming sentiment that they had screwed up with Andy Reid and they wanted another coach like that. Since andy was long gone the closest they could get was Doug Pederson. Something something carson wentz, and now they have another coach who calls inside zone out of the shotgun all day 🤷♀️
Let's also not forget that Chip Kelly got rid of LeSean McCoy (22nd all-time leader in rushing yards) and DeSean Jackson (39th all-time leader in receiving yards).
This feels like a very subjective place to start the chain. You could start it with the Eagles getting Sanchez, or heck, let's go deeper. New script: so back in 1936, the Eagles select Jay Berwagner first overall, which led to...
THREE first round picks for a one year college starter at ND state, of the famed Missouri Valley Football Conference? i wasnt paying attention to the niners draft deals in 2020 or i might still be laughing. that trade/ pick might be the dumbest deal in NFL history.
@@brendancurtin679 Or Ricky Williams Twice..... (Miami gave up 2 firsts and basically ended their relevance as a franchise once Ricky decided weed in Cambodia was better than 30 carries a game behind the worst O-line in the NFL that didn't belong to an expansion team)
@@brendancurtin679 not even close? herschel played 4 years in the SEC, won the heisman, won so many college awards i lost count. seriously look up herschels college awards....it has to be the most by anyone, ever. then he went on the be a productive back in the NFL. he earned 2 second team all pros, two pro bowls. youre saying its more surprising a boatload of picks was traded for herschel than for trey lance? i dont know if that logic holds up. trey lance barely played in college...in a crappy conference, and hasnt seen the field in 3 years in the NFL. 3 FIRST ROUND PICKS? yea i dont see it.
@@graysonmichael8335 - It's less about the players and more about the value of QBs vs RBs... Of course things didn't run on analytics back when the Walker trade took place. So it's not like anyone knew that no RB could be good enough compared to the rest of his position group to command that much draft capital.
@@JCPRuckus ill give you that. qbs are more valuable than rbs. but the game was different in 1990.. teams were still operating under the "run the ball, and stop the run" principle..its too much to type, nfl passing production just wasnt the same as it is today...runners had much more value back then. if lance had a different college career id feel differently...but he didnt.
Nice trick, but you can do this sort of thing with just about any game. What comes to my mind is how Philly deliberately tanked in their final game of the Washington in the 2021 season (thus costing the Giants a trip to the playoffs). The result? Their final record was bad enough that they had the draft capital to trade with guess who--The Miami Dolphins. They were able to trade down from 6 to 12. The Dolphins took WR Jaylen Waddle while the Eagles were able to take Davonta Smith (arguably just as good a receiver as Waddle). In addition, they got an extra first round pick in 2022. That extra first round pick (actually, they had three that year) helped make it possible to trade away a first rounder to the Titans for WR AJ Brown. The net result? Losing that one game against Washington (and screwing over their division rivals, the Giants) made it possible to get the receiving duo of AJ Brown and Davonta Smith. That, in turn, unlocked the QB talent of Jaylen Hurts--a second round selection and someone that no one at the time was sure would make it as a stater. The outcome? The Commanders and the Giants are left in the bottom of the division looking up at the Eagles and probably will stay there for the foreseeable future. I'm sure stuff like this happens all of the time.
Does anything good happen when you see Mark Sanchez? If I saw him in person, I would lock myself in an isolation chamber for a few weeks just to be safe.
I think this same thing can be done for just about an play that results to an injury for a QB. HOWEVER, this was very well done and entertaining, I give zero shade to you sir. Keep up the good work!
The trade the Bears did with the 49ers to move up one spot for Trubisky has a pretty interesting ripple effect. The first round pick SF got in the trade was pretty forgettable, but it was the next year day 2 pick that the Niners got (Fred Warner) which galvanized their defense. Also, the Saints came away with Alvin Kamara as a result of the trade too. I should also add that if the Bears didn't pick Trubisky and instead went with the safer Deshaun Watson pick, the QB board that year plays out much differently: some guy named Mahomes would likely be wearing a different jersey.
Thank you for this video. As an Eagles fan I almost entirely blocked out the Chip Kelly years from my mind so seeing Bradford and Sanchez in Midnight green was like remembering old trauma
The crazy part is when Jimmy G became a starter in 2020 the QB before him singed too the Jags. That signing became the lase pick in the 2023 draft Brock Purdy. That domino chain went in a huge complicated circle
You're forgetting that the injury also led to the Eagles trading Bradford, after drafting Wentz, to the Vikings for their 2017 1st round pick. That pick was used to draft Derek Barnett, who recovered the Brady fumble in the Super Bowl.
You could argue that the Saints came away really good considering they were basically a 3rd party team for some of the trades between Philadelphia and Miami
If the Eagles aren’t the main protagonists, after winning the first SB coming out of that play, AND getting the 2024 roster as it is now, then we must have different definitions of “protagonist”. Also, Howie is an absolute mad man and genius, and I’ll die on that hill.
Sam Bradford's daughter came home from school one day and said "Dad! We just learned about the ocean! It's really deep!". Sam Bradford said "Wow, how deep? Like 20 yards?"
You need to go back to 1989 when the cowboys traded Hershel Walker to Minnesota that included 18 players and picks. It’s by far the biggest trade in NFL history and led to the Cowboys winning 3 Super Bowls
First time seeing your content and I loved this video. I Aldo talk about the NFL on my YT and IG pages. Keep up the good work and maybe we can collab on a video in the future. Stay blessed! 🙏
also a big thing about that philly dallas swap is that they were deliberately doing it to fuck with the giants to stop them from getting devonta smith. after the trade happens the giants traded down with the Bears to pick Kadarius Toney, while the Bears took Justin Fields
You could also spin it to the Beginning of the NFL is the biggest chain reaction of the NFL if you wanted to because everything plays off everything infinitely and nothing can be a longer chain reaction than the very beginning of that specific thing
Even if Bradford didn't get banged up, the 2015 Eagles would have still found a way to miss the playoffs, and Kelly would have still been shown the guillotine.
Glad you mentioned that bit at the end, the eagles easily could've fired Kelly regardless. You got Bradford and Sanchez as your 1-2? They were ready to clean house.
It’s crazy how you just skipped over winning the Super Bowl. You know the first championship in Eagles history in almost 60 years. That’s actually a key moment….
I mean the eagles are the real big winners here bc Carson and Doug lead us to a Super Bowl AND we made it to another one with a whole different roster. Howie’s built different.
