My ship pulled into a harbor in Talcahouna or Concepcion( spelling on both) Chile. My ship was 532 feet long. A few years ago when Chile had that monster quake, that harbor is now dry land. The area rose over 50 feet. I find that just incredible.
😂@1:22 the before and after photos are exactly the same. The only difference is that the right image is taken closer to the pole on the right of the photos.😂
Cascadia Subduction Zone- 13:17 “Running from Northern Vancouver Island in Canada”. I live here and wish to correct your geographical description- it is just Vancouver Island. North of this is, as it plainly shows on this map, once known as Queen Charlotte Islands, but now, more correctly, Haida Gwaii (the ancestral home to the Haida peoples of this area on our west coast). Your conclusion is ‘humourous’. Vancouver is going to liquify in such a massive scale based on our geography. Higher, safer ground is on our northern mountainous region accessible by only 2 bridges. Nope. Living with the proverbial Damocles sword over our heads.
As a NorCal and former SoCal resident having been through everything from Sylmar to Northridge, I agree with you. When Cascadia goes, it will be, as they say, America's biggest natural disasters. Looking at the topography of the area, there's not enough high ground for people to escape to quickly enough. I hope it never happens in my lifetime. I believe 1700 was also the year Mt Lassen, not the small cone it now, but Tehama as Indigenous Peoples called it, erupted send house size boulders, lahars, pyroclastic flows etc...across the Sacramento Valley. Trickle down effect?

It's mind-blowing how the concept of plate tectonic activity shapes our world! The theorist behind plate techtonics was destroyed professionally and died in shame. I call it vindication that his theory is now widely accepted🎉
As a kid in the 1950's we had puzzles of the Earth and noticed, hey these pieces fit together they must have been one whole thing before! Duh. He knew it too and just had to get out there and get the proof. But some people despite having the answer slapping them in the face will deny it exist.
Plate tectonics is a falsehood, the Planet Earth is Flat. Reason why airplanes don't fly over the north pole or go across the Pacific. Also why no circumnavigation of the Earth was ever completed, even by Amelia Erhart in her airplane, which mysteriously vanished over the Pacific.
9:37 ... amazingly this earthquake activity (of filling a depression with local water to form a lake) took only a few weeks... [Bc scientists are always amazed when a catastrophic event creates new formations in a very short period] 16:03 Explain how researchers will (hopefully) preempt events? [Was this video written by artificial mediocre intelligence (AMI)?] 26:18 It is a hefty claim to make that a creek running perpendicular to a fault line is "by pure chance" [When a geological structure does not match the narrative of 'millions of years to form' , it appears that gatekeepers are baffled, leading to claims of "pure chance" and "amazed"]
The Cascadian Subduction Zone will eventually become the Cascadian Traps, and have a similar impact on the world as did the Deccan Traps in India, and the Siberian Traps before them. ....or not
The Alpine Fault (New Zealand) moves more than any other known land fault in the world. The Alpine Fault is the longest natural straight line on earth, over 800km of fault line running between the Australian and Pacific tectonic plates.
Incredible photography. I fail to understand, though, how you come up with millions of years, in light of how swiftly and dramatically the landscape changes from the more recent and observed earthquake references. Better if you omitted those speculative remarks.
This was so fascinating and informative, I'm saving it to my "science, geology" playlist for further research. I've learned so much, it's hard to say what was the coolest! My son was half Croatian, so I esp liked the portion about that area.
Yup very interesting I born in L.A. went though Sylmar and Northridge earthquakes the Northridge was only 1/2 mile and that was mean up and down shaking now I live Arizona 50 miles southeast from Tucson boy I hope there is no shaking here but like to go back to Japan were Grandparents are from.
A very interesting video full of information. I truly liked it and enjoyed it. It it is not only informative, but educational as well. Keep them coming, Top Fives, you have the most amazing videos ever. Hats off to you all. 👍👍🙌🙌♥️♥️
The New Madrid fault isnt pronounced like Madrid, Spain but like mad, like "youd be mad to name yourself after an existing place then expect everyone to pronounce it different"
The Kekwrengu Fault is also called the alpine Fault and as you say of many connected fault lines. In Christchurch why I live we have had two earthquakes, one in September 2010 from unknown fault lien that measured about 7 on the Richter scale. This fault line was underneath the alluvial plains and thus had not been dented until then. Then in February 2011 just before the Japanese Tsunami we had another earthquake measuring about 6.5 when devastated Christchurch and surrounding areas. The reason for this was the death of this earthquake located in the Port Hill was only 6.5 km whereas the earlier in September was deep and further south and inland. However both earthquakes combined id a lot of damage and then the Kaikoura earthquake added to destruction and loss. From what I learned at school all the Canterbury fault lines are to the Kekwrengu. What is concerning is this major fault line itself is overdue for shake and when it does it will cause a lot of damage to Wellington our capital. FY I live in Christchurch
Abstract : The energy that dominates the earth is very great, some of it is natural, like the heat of the sun and volcanoes, and some of it is human action, by cutting down trees, without replacing them and cultivating in their place... There are five forces that control or dominate the planet... 1- The first theory (horizontal dynamic movement) and its end... The occurrence of storms, rain, floods and snow, at unexpected times and places, is because of the expiration of this theory, which needs to be balanced... 2- The second theory (vertical dynamic movement) and its end... This movement or force controls or dominates the earthquakes, earth cracks, drying up of rivers and lakes, earth openings, mountain collapses, and the emergence of drinking water springs on the ground... It becomes out of control... These phenomena increased due to the end of this theory... The third theory: it is water that rotates the earth... The fourth theory: the Earth's axis of rotation has tilted 2° degrees... The fifth theory: The Earth has a new orbit... These studies had completed and sent on July 26th 2000 YOUSIF A TOBIYA
The film's title uses the word "flaws." What is its definition? The world's first earthquake must have occurred after the Earth was formed, i.e. without a "fault". Moreover, I predicted the Bam Earthquake on December 25, 2003 to the public only through the Bam Cloud. The next day, an Iranian seismologist was surprised by my success on ignoring "fault".
Tic tac shaped thing? Do you mean the shadow on the far right side, about in the middle? It kind of looks like a light rain is falling and thus making the shadow that would normally not visible show up.
There are over 195 countries in the world, and all but three of them use the metric system. These three countries - Liberia, Myanmar, and the United States - insist on utilizing the outdated imperial system
To think the continents used to be one, and these events tore it apart and continue to do so os crazy. Eventually i imagine the continents will meet again, a very long time from now
@@lfgarzaThey still call bush, obama, and clinton president. People only started using Ex-president after trump as a means of jeering at him. It shows a form of immaturity that is unbecoming of adults.
New Madrid was named and governed by Spain at that time. Therefore it should be pronounced MadRID as the Spanish do. Please advise your local government immediately so as not to cause offense to the Spanish culture.
I thought the 1965 quake in Alaska was the most powerful. I dont remember hearing or reading about that quake at the time. Not hearing about it during the time would not be that unusual due to its remote location and I was 8 years old then.
We learned about the Alaska quake of 1965 in my Geology class, there was massive vertical movement in that quake. I still remember a photo of a road which was on the fault and moved a great distance.
Strange that you didn't hear about it. Regular programming on TV was constantly being interrupted with news reports about it. And the subject was seen as a major national disaster, and so, got lots of attention for weeks. I was 10 years old then, and don't know how you missed it.
@@jackreisewitz6632 Ive read that is was in 1964 so I was in the second grade by then and I was 7 years old. Most of my tv time was when the UNTOUCHABLES came on at 11pm or saturday morning cartoons for an hour.
If the Cascadia fault zone ever completely unzips we can expect a 9+ earthquake along its entire length from one end to the other. Every major city along its length will be severely damaged. The death toll will be enormous The economic damage will cripple the entire United States and will cast the entire zone into extreme poverty that will take many generations to return to "normal." Many major cities may not fully recover at all and may not even be rebuilt the cost will be so high. And it's way overdue. The zone has not had the stress relieving regular earthquakes that would mitigate a major end to end shift in the fault. This is a bad situation that's only getting worse with every year that passes by.
The occurrence of stoms, rains, ice, and floods at times and in unexpected places, confirms my theory the end of the (dynamic horizontal movement )which needs to balance and it sill under control to balance... But about earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, sinkholes, tsunami, dry lakes and rivers, flow of water from the mountains and hills, explodeand of eyes water from the ground, formation of new mountains or islands, collaps of mountains ,and cracks on ground,& ,& ,&,they are out of control or balance... Note :The earth will become like Venus... Yousif A Tobiya
REELFOOT LAKE IS ANOTHER GOOD EXAMPLE OF HOW THINGS THAT WE'VE ALWAYS BEEN TOLD TOOK A GAZILLION YEARS, ACTUALLY HAPPENED ESSENTIALLY OVERNIGHT!!! (LIKE MT. ST. HELENS!) KEEP AN OPEN MIND!
Uh, the Mariana trench is where one long line of ocean floor dives beneath another long line of ocean floor. There may be some continental crust somewhere ELSE on one of the plates - just as is the case with the North American plate, the Eurasian plate, the African etc... To lead people to believe it is a subduction zone like...the Cascadia one, or the one off Chile, is completely wrong. The REASON that trench is so deep is precisely BECAUSE it is ocean floor diving beneath ocean floor. Both old cold basaltic areas deep under the water, sliding along relatively smoothly.
Please! Choose a measurement! You wasted 80% of your time reciting equivalents! Pick ONE and use it! Either one. I don't care. They both make perfect sense. But think about all the extra information you might have added to the narrative if you hadn't wasted so much breath on conversions!
@@tribalbabymum Yes quite. I stated clearly that I would drink to metrics. I just want him to pick one or the other as both are equally intelligible to me.
@@philipbahia2707 the amount of y'all who don't "obey", compared to the people who are openly not religious is wild. The most judgemental people unwilling to see the real world or reality have all been christians and Catholics. You're all missing the point on thousands of everyday topics. Enough if enough. You're literally brainwashed, and you're "faith" is a cult.
If you believe, you can be forgiven for anything! But if you don't believe then you you spend eternity burning in hell. Because God loves you, don't make him mad though. Sounds like an abusive husband who blames his wife for making him hit her, no?
@brenton2561 believing is not enough like I mention, even Jesus mention that the devil believe but will never enter the kingdom God,you have to obey God's commandments til judgement day.
@PraiseHim.Education At time 12.26 in this footage, " Where did that green water in the sinkhole come from"? #WatersInSinholes. Some sinkholes have water while others do not. Sinkholes in the city limits have broken pipes repaired and the holes filled with dirt and do not accumulate green water. The fissures if they should accumulate any waters then I can imagine the water will percolate from the under water source we look for fresh water as is in existence on land; if anything else then wormwood. #Wormwood. James 3:11... sweet water and bitter. We have only fresh water and salt water naturally occurring on this planet. Sent 13 February 2024 9:31PM CST Texas
