Honestly, the big hits look way worse than they actually are (depending on where you're hit obviously). I've been laid out in a game a few times and just popped right back up. You're more likely to get injured when you get twisted down.

Aleea, he is right! Back in the days of NFL, hits were a lot worse especially in the 70's. They used to do clothesline tackles, forearms, and even horse collar tackles: now those are illegal. Plus, hits on WR's while they are ready to received from QB out in the open......defenders like CB's, Safety, or Strong Safety cannot I mean cannot hit defenseless player (Called Targeting). If defenders commit it, they can be penalized, ejected, & fined by NFL. College has similar rules as NFL. There is a shocking video of Raiders' Jack Tatum's hit on Darryl Stingley of Patriots in a preseason game in 1978. Tatum laid him out during a play causing Stingley being paralyzed. NFL Owners and top executives are making strides to protect the players today even though retired players are suffering from their playing days of the past.

I'm a sports mom. All my son's injuries including a concussion? Baseball or playground. Not a single football injury. Ever. Plays both sides. There's no "safe" thing where there's no injury. Heck I can't count the number of major injuries/tears I had....IN BALLET. Training, good programs, the proper equipment etc - those are key in everything.
