OMG! Lifechanging! (Just kidding) This was a great one, Austen. I have to say- my “5” is influencers who use their kids/partner/family drama to get views. Slimy.
Lol that really did make me laugh Shannon! Ahh yes, I know that's a tough one for a lot of people. I think so much of it comes down to consent of the other people, but it's so hard especially with young kids. Absolutely something to think about in terms of how much we share and what the potential impact of sharing that much is. Thanks for including your two cents in the comments 🩷
Very interesting points! I agree most with not responding to comments and DMs... It's very apparent when influencers start out responding to people, engaging, taking time to build a community, but then when they take off and build a larger audience, they dip out. That just gives the impression that they were only engaging to help boost their views and growth, not to actually build a sustainable community! Plus, being a self-employed creative can be very isolating at times, so those relationships/friendships that I've built with my community on IG and RU-vid through consistent engagement are comforting to have (not to mention they are the ones who literally keep my business afloat - so of course I'm going to take the time to engage with them)!
Ooh that's a good one Priya! I know right it's like getting ghosted by a friend, it's so strange! Agree about making connections with other fellow creatives 🥰 Facebook groups have also been super helpful for me on that front in terms of a place to vent or ask for what other people think!
Another awesome video Austen and yes there are some creator turnoffs for me such as being too complaining/negative and not replying to my comments. Low audio is also annoying. Love 🥰 the video and love 💞 Austen.
thank you so much for watching and sharing your thoughts here too! I definitely agree that too much outward negativity is hard for audiences to sympathize with. And I'm learning so much more about audio quality over the years so I really appreciate the creators who prioritize that!
This was amazing! I can't stand nondisclosure - it makes all of us look bad. On organic v. Sponsored balance - I agree with you, but people also have to remember that every product we feature that isn't sponsored or gifted comes out of our pocket. As a teeny-weeny creator 😂, I'm not always in a position to run out and buy $300 of the latest greatest everything, much less spend it on things I really don't need. It's kinda weird how a lot of people scoff at the idea of content creation as a viable source of income while simultaneously assuming that influencers make a ton of disposable money.
