"It only takes one team." This was said a few times in multiple kinds of context throughout the vid, but it's so important for everyone to remember throughout draft season. Anyone who ridicules non-chalk mock drafts, anyone who allows themselves to be blindsided by "why did my 35th ranked played get picked in the 1st???” Anyone who says "Well clearly Player X was viewed higher by the NFL because he went two spots earlier than media consensus" ... All it takes is one team to like a guy enough. That's it. Keeping that in mind makes the draft process a lot more enjoyable and understandable
To add on, most teams have prospects arranged in tiers rather than pure ranks. So when a team 'reaches' for a 'second round' prospect late in the first, its usually not a reach, just that media big boards make the difference between #29 and #41 ranked prospects seem dramatic. Most mocks are influenced by other mocks and people really overrate the difference between a few draft slots due to semi-arbitrary rankings. Of course reaches actually happen, but more often than not, its people freaking out over the number on media big boards than the caliber of prospect.
He's seen as 'safe.' & 'safe' is seen as unsexy. But yeah, I've yet to hear anyone answer the question "does he not pass long because they didn't _ask him to_ or because he can't?" Here's what doesn't help though: his 1st school's coach hated him. So he developed late & showed none of the explosive plays that make highlight reels. I haven't seen _everything_ on him so I don't even know if what I said is all 100% correct. But I imagine that someone is gonna have to take a risk on him anyway. You know why? No good QB prospects are slated for _NEXT year's_ draft. So now if you're the Giants or Jets & you're not sure if Rodgers can survive another full season or that you want tow commit to Daniel Jones for _TWO_ years, not taking a QB seems like too great a risk.
Penix has too much upside and there are too many teams picking mid to late first round with average QB play to take the chance that you’ll be able to maneuver back into the first round to take him
I know they don’t have a 1st round pick but the Texans are still a fascinating draft team to me. Two 2nds and 9 picks overall in a class that seems full of great day 2 potential. Not to mention the current brass has a pretty solid drafting record. I can’t wait to see how they continue to work at this roster.
As a bears fan, I'm hoping Rome Odunze is not available at 9 because there's no way we pass on him. Only because I think the more responsible thing is to draft Troy Foutanu to keep Caleb upright, but i really really want Rome Odunze, so I hope the rest of the nfl forces us to make the right decision. Lol.
IT IS TRUE... JJ McCarthy is the most polarizing player in this draft, but it is also true he is the most Underrated player in the draft. By now we have heard: what he can do, what he hasn't done, what they let him do, what he is capable of, what he could become, etc... Yet we have neglected his coach secondary to hyperbole. But lets think about it for a moment. Maybe Jim is closer to being right than wrong. Maybe Harbaugh is a QB whisperer. We know Tedford (Smith, Boller, Rodgers), and of course Riley (Mayfield, Murray, Hurts, Williams), but why not Harbaugh too. FCS great Josh Johnson has been in the league for 16 years, quite an accomplishment for D2. Andrew Luck, a 3-star I believe, turned into an all-time prospect and he was the last QB Jim really talked up... I believe in JJ's track record, desire, and potential. I also believe Jimmy more than most.
Ravens didn't lose anyone important lol. Aside from Clowney and kinda Queen, no real losses. Stone was a 7th round safety that was able to gamble for picks cuz of a great scheme + stacked secondary around him. Aside from like 3 guys, Ravens didn't lose anyone. Y'all should google free agents instead of casually seeing "Ravens have a lot of FAs" and going with it
@@FantasySportsZen Maybe, but what's the fun in making a free bet that's just conventional wisdom? "I bet that Caleb Williams will be the first QB taken". BO-RING.
@@FantasySportsZen they're bold predictions, not things I would put money on. they probably wont happen, but if they were probably going to happen, they wouldnt be very bold
Jet fans have two teams: team line and team weppinz! Team weppinz is basically in two camps: trade up for to 8 for Nabers, if possible, or take Odunze or Bowers at 10, in that order. Team line is Team Alt, and Team "look at Alt: he can't drop his anchor because he keeps getting pushed off balance, and his run blocking technique is bleh. I like Latham/Olu/Fautanu (he can play all four positions!)." That's basically how it breaks down. No drunken fistfights yet!
@@FantasySportsZen "And what would you consider right?", he asked. The only thing left is defense, and that's obviously wrong, and QB, and as a Patriots fan, I don't think you'd disagree that that's what the sixth round is for. 😋
I have been not been impressed with the draft coverage but this was very good and helpful. I have learned a lot about QBs from watching Chase's but I disagree with one of his picks. I believe the Pats trade down with the Vikings but I believe they should and just might draft Michael Penix Jr who if he stays healthy IMO will turn out to be the best QB in this draft. As a Bears fan I am dreading them picking the selfish entitled spoiled rotten rich kid Caleb Williams. I have very serious doubt he can truly lead talented wealthy pro athletes.
