Part 2 - If you haven't watch part one first. Here is a link:
• Bighorn Mountains - Cl...
After I struggled the first 2 days, in days 3 and 4 things go better. I acclimated, temperatures were cooler, and my pack was lighter. These sections of the trail were also much more scenic. Lake Solitude, Mistymoon Lake, Florence Pass and Florence Lake were highlights. A storm rolled in as I was atop of mountain and things got interesting.
Often overlooked due to its proximity to Yellowstone and the Tetons, the Bighorn Mountains are located in north central Wyoming. Halfway between the Black Hills and the Grand Canyon, the Bighorn National Forest is over 1 million acres and is covered in snow for most of the year. On the roughest mountain terrain of the Bighorns is Cloud Peak Wilderness Area. Cloud Peak tops out over 13,000 feet and much of the area is over 10,000 feet and offers a wide variety of mountains, pine forests, alpine meadows, alpine lakes, creeks, and waterfalls.
The Solitude Loop Trail (#38) is a 55 mile loop that is mainly in Cloud Peak Wilderness. The loop requires an additional walk in from a trailhead. I chose to start at Hunter Coral Campground Trailhead. This was about 7 miles into the loop. Hunter Coral trailhead has more traffic and security than other trailheads and is closest to the city of Buffalo.
In this video, I start my four day hike and struggle right off the bat with an unmaintained trail. I enjoy the amazing views while I battle the affects of not acclimating to the high altitudes.
If you want to see what I packed for this trip, check out this video:

2 years ago just as I reached the cloud peak summit I got a weather alert on my phone that up to 18" of snow was coming. That was the longest, roughest day I've had in the park. All the way up in a day from westvtensleep trailhead, then all the way back out to the car without overnighter. Just carried all that gear for NOTHING. spent the rest of that trip in the black hills as the snow absolutely did come. Can't imagine navigating that terrain in knee deep snow ....

Thx for the video. I did the loop the 3rd week in July this summer with a friend. It is a beautiful area and fun place to hike. The only area I did not like was hiking the section thru the 2 reservoirs. The navigation was difficult in a few places and we made a couple of faux pas that resulted in backtracking and adding additional miles. Keep up the good work.

Wild horses and waterfalls and beautiful mountains. Incredible place my friend. First time I’ve heard of the area. I hope you made it out of the wag bag area ok 😁😂 That little spot for your tent was a blessing. Enjoyed the video and trip brother 👍🏻👍🏻

You can definitely tell the altitude was getting you. Beautiful scenery. Murphy's Law would dictate that you would have to drop a deuce in the no poop zone, however the ziploc would not be rated for the impact velocity.

@11:00 That is bomber mountain on the north side of Florence lake. In the 1940s a B-52 bomber crashed into the mountain. The wreckage wasn't found for a couple years, no one survived. The site is considered a grave site, but you can visit it.

@@taracarmichael1221 I was to!! It was a playful hopping. I think they were young. Older horses laying down nearby weren’t impressed.

The horses are hobbled (their front legs tied together) so they can roam around to feed, don't wander off too far and are easier to round up in the morning.🤠
