Dude, Thank you! Here I am in Finland, with the EXACT same issue as you, with the same pizza oven and just had this thought about conversion - came across your video, when I was searching if someone had done it and Bingo, you had! This makes my day, thank you for taking the time to upload and info. Now I'm off to buying the Karu 12 conversion piece, instead of upgrading the whole oven from get-go. Have a wonderful day!
Did you have to do anything to get it to sit flush ? Mind seems to have a small 5mm gap at bottom of the burner housing where it’s fouling on the bighorn ?
Awesome. I was just looking at these ooni burners wondering if it would work in my bighorn. Gave it a goog and this was the first video i saw. So how long did it take to get to temp and how do you like it? Does it get as hot as it does with the pellets and do you notice much of a difference in flavor? I mix my wood pellets 50/50 with charcoal pellets. Works really well and burns hotter than just using wood pellets. Im wanting to set mine up to burn both at the same time to get that wood fired flavor but have the ease of gas and keeping the temp up without having to constantly babysit and feed the fire to keep it at a good burn. Maybe put a little wood pellet smoker tube in the back. Im also thinking it might not really change the flavor at all since they cook so fast in the high heat.
It gets 800* pretty quick I turn the fire down when I launch pizzas, its too hot sometimes and can scorch before crust is done. I dropped a few pellets in the feed chute, smoked a little. Thanks for the update
Yes, I kept the parts. Have them under the table I cook on. I saw a pizza "oven" at Dicks yesterday. Looks pretty interesting. Round and electric. Heats up fast. Still $400 though.
