A proper adjustment on the drivetrain system, or a tune up, is important to keep your bike on track.
Today we’ll take a look on adjusting the limit screws and cable tension of the rear derailleur.
The derailleur has 2 limit screws, one to set the inner limit and the other one to set the outer limit.
Set the high limit screw so that your chain does not fall between the cog and the dropout.
If you can’t get the chain to the smallest cog (highest gear), check the tension of the cable. If it’s too tight, turn the barrel adjuster clockwise to loosen it. Once you have it shifted to the highest gear, set the limit screw and move to the next step.
Push the derailleur toward the spokes and then turn the low limit screw to set the inner limit.
Once you have it figured out, shift all the gears and adjust the tension of the cable if necessary.
Lubricate the chain to finish it up.
