Good sir, your creativity knows no bounds... The fact that I can laugh one minute (your face when reading the "not for off-road use) and then be so inspired I'm ready to jump out of my chair before the video is over (but I don't)... man, you've really got something. Thanks for consistently being a checkmark in my 'Happy to be Alive' column.

You've inspired me; I've bit the bullet and purchased some PDW fenders. Pricey, but much nicer than the others I've seen in my local shop.

Yep, if it's wet it's Trek time (or drecktime - dreck means mud) wirh SKS Edge AL. The biggest problem I have with fenders is to get the wires around the front brake. If there are no lowrider mounts it sucks. But the fenders will rattling much easier this way because of the mounting angle (steep triangle instead of wide triangle).

You posted this a while back, but I was wondering how the clearance and coverage was off those fenders since the tires you're running are 650b x 1.9" (I think) instead of the 1.8" that PDW recommends.

For me a bike looks naked without fenders, they have been on most of my bikes since 1968! My skinny tires road bike don't have fenders except for 1.....when we ride in the trails and it is wet my fenders always does its job...the non fender bikes usually need a good hosing after the ride....plus they usually have more mechanical issues too....the fenders does enough to protect the bike....most fenders are not too bad to get installed but depending on the bike frame or fenders it can be a doosey once on a while....my friend with his Lefty just refuses to try! 🤔😤😝

Dustin, please tell us more about your long tyre pump which you often place under the top bike frame tube. And how it's fastening there? I've saw it on the other videos, not in this, but I'm sure you'll understand what do I mean. Thnx!
@EverythingsBeenDone

It’s a frame pump. There should be a link in the description. These work great. This one is ‘secured’ with a strip of hook and loop

I have no eyelets for the rear fender, only screw holes near the axle (Giant TCX). Zip ties FTW.

Are you running 2 inch tyres (50mm) on your Bombtrack? I have one with 2 inch tyres and would love to fit the PDW fenders (we call ‘em ‘mudguards’ here). But the spec states 46mm MAX tyre width. Knowing nothing about just nothing, I’m a bit reluctant to spend over a hundred quid to find they don’t fit. Ain’t the Bombtrack bloody awesome though?!!!!!!! 😁

An hour! 😆😆😆😆 This year I went with the Fendor Bendor front and rear. Results, not great. Back to full mudguards next winter for sure...

Honestly after going through the faff of getting these installed I wouldn't take them off. Next bike I get I'll be getting the easier clip models rather than full fenders.

Took me nearly 2 hours to fit mine! What fork do you have on the Bombtrack? My Kinesis fork does 700/45 or 650/50 but doesn't have rack mounts like yours does (been thinking if some lowrider packs).
@EverythingsBeenDone
@EverythingsBeenDone 5 лет назад
This fork is what comes on the Bombtrack and the ability to mount fenders was a major reason why I sought out this bike!

Did you say November to June? Farrrrk does winter last that long where you’re at? I know it’s winter where I am (Sunshine Coast Australia) because I need arm warmers. But that’s only between 5am - 9am May to July.

Another dope video. Crazy because I just hit pdw up asking if the 650 beast fit over 47s and surely they do since you're running the pannaracer GK sk 47, right?
@thunderinthenight13
@thunderinthenight13 5 лет назад
Yeah, PDW advertise them as fitting up to a 46 and yet most 'road plus' tires are a 47. WTF?! A couple of mm won't make much difference (depending on how 'tread-y' your tires are) and I'd happily run the Beasts on a 47/48 but it just seems dumb for PDW to advertise them at 46 max.
@MrDtgreen
@MrDtgreen 5 лет назад
@@thunderinthenight13 that's exactly what I asked them in the question. I said I'm sure a mm won't make a difference even though you advertise them as fitting a 46 max tire when the defacto is 47. Great minds think alike.

Even PDW makes their fenders too short. The forward section of the front fender needs to extend waaaay beyond the twelve o-clock position (forward of the very top of the tire, to at least the 2 o-clock position) to avoid major spray-back when cycling in heavy rain at higher speeds. I added an additional length of fender (using approx 18" of a discarded one that I riveted on) and now I don't have that problem. Why, why, why don't fender manufacturers realize this? Also, those flaps should ideally reach almost within two inches or so of the ground, especially the front one, to keep water from spraying onto your shoes and bottom bracket.
@pbskater3
@pbskater3 5 лет назад
Yeah I agree with this. Have you found any fenders you really enjoy? I am using the SKS Bluemels and added a pretty long mudflap to keep my feet dry but these fenders aren't so sturdy. They vibrate a ton and touch the wheel ocassionally even though they are 53mm fenders on 40mm tires.
@helldorado1489
@helldorado1489 5 лет назад
@@pbskater3 I'm using Planet Bike's "Hardcore" fenders over my 35mm tires. They are plastic but no problems with vibration or rubbing. The struts are pretty easy to adjust once installed. None at all. And much more affordable than the PDW fenders.
@PerfDayToday
@PerfDayToday 5 лет назад
Helldorado also running Planet Bike, using Cascadia 29”x2” for just the rear. Covers my 700c 40mm tire just fine. No fender mounts on front fork, (thus selling frnt fender) so using PDW Origami on the down tube until sks speedrockers show up. No rattling of rear fender. All good
@craigwilson118
@craigwilson118 5 лет назад
@@pbskater3 Check out Honjo for really long fenders. Aluminum is about as light as plastic but stiffer. Velo Orange also do metal fenders anodized black if silver doesn't rock your rig.

Ok, question: Invest in more expensive aluminum/stainless steel fenders or go with more affordable plastic ones? I literally came back to this video just to ask this question.
@EverythingsBeenDone
@EverythingsBeenDone 5 лет назад
If you are only commuting the plastic ones will work. But if your doing any kind of off road or have heavy winter invest in the metal fenders they make s big difference and you can use them for many years!

Tremendously interesting video :-). Thanks ever so much for sharing this :-). Well done :-). Plus I also subscribed to you :-). You certainly know a good lot about bikes and their properties :-). I personally think you're nearly an expert on bikes. You seem like a relatively charismatic person and almost simply a fit looking man :-). I see that several good long cycles and plenty of cycling on your bike keeps you going. Well done. You definately have a nice looking bike I do say. I don't really cycle that much but I know I should ideally :-/. But of course we all have our own interests but speaking of cycling sorry if this involves any irrelevence to your video you could always stop at a level crossing on your bike if you ever wanted to :-). But never mind if you don't want to :-). Alright then, have a nice evening and take good care of yourself :-). See you later Dustin :-). From your friend Foxy :-). P . S . I'm Sorry if this is a bad or personal question but are you American or are you Canadian? Sorry if it was a racially offensive or irritating to you :-/. Its because I don't know if you know this but I'm british if you didn't know :-). Its always nice to watch foreign youtube channels from time to time :-). Well channels certainly foreign from my native country :-). Which is in England in the UK. Have a nice evening and take care Dustin :-). From Foxy :-).
