Bike noise including creaking, clicking, squealing can be a difficult problem to solve since sound is often transmitted along the frame. We show you how to approach the noise problem. In this case, we what appeared to be handlebar creaking in that the sound occurred when pulling on the handlebars while climbing and less when easing up on the handlebars. It occurred both seated and when OUT OF THE SADDLE which eliminated the saddle and seatpost as the culprit. The most common cause of handlebar creaking is the handlebar clamp needing either cleaning, greasing or torquing the clamp bolts. But there are other causes including the front wheel and the front wheel quick release skewer. Worn front hub bearings or bike wheel can also produce noise. We decided to tackle the ease things first. Check our cleats and pedal for wear. They were in excellent condition. Next, the front end of the bike. Before working on the handlebar clamp or headset, we checked the qr for tightness. It was not tight. We removed the wheel skewer which when we pulled on the front skewer lever was not loose but far from tight. Remove the wheel skewer, grease the skewer with a very small amount of grease after cleaning, install making sure it's tight. It should leave an imprint on your hand when it's sufficiently tight (but not too tight you can't remove it to fix a flat out on the road). Make sure you have the right skewer position and skewer direction. This simple bike repair (fix) - tighten quick release skewer - solved our problem. We've also seen this problem with the rear skewer.
When tackling bicycle, listen closely, is it occurring when pedaling or coasting or both, does it occur while in the saddle and disappear when out of the saddle, is it more when pulling on the handlebars and less when you loosen up your grip. Be systematic and tackle the easy to fix items first.

My quality control expert. Also my alarm clock letting me know when it's time for dinner (hers, not mine). Her name is Hermione because of the red on top of her head just like the red headed Hermione of Harry Potter. Regards, Tony

😍the Litespeed Classic. I have a polished '99 Litespeed UlTimate. Just recently I was getting a clicking, creaking sound around my rear derailleur. I thought it was the chain out of alignment. I found the root noise cause was coming from the bladed spokes rubbing against another. To fix this, I may need to get my rear wheel respoked.

1. Remove the quick release or through axle, lightly grease, replace and make sure it's tight (but not so tight you cannot remove). This may solve the noise problem. 2. Look for a loose spoke by plucking or jiggling each spoke. If present, the wheel may need to be re-tuned by your LBS. 3. Take a close look at the spokes. It is possible that the bladed spokes were rotated during the build; re-truing the wheel paying attention to the orientation of the spokes may solve the problem. 4. Examine the bladed spokes where they cross. If you find several that appear worn, a quick fix is to lubricate these spokes where they cross - but this is a temporary fix. 5. Finally, most bladed spokes will start squeaking over time and you'll need the spoke replace and re-trued. See: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-SMALlGgVjYE.html Let me know how you make out. Regards, Tony

Tightening the skewers probably impacted the squeaking as well. Lubricating the threads probably doesn't hurt either. Always enjoy the vids. All the best.

beautiful bike. I'm always worried I'll sheer a skewer or its threads if i tighten it too much

Start with it somewhat loose and tighten just a little at a time until you have to press firmly but not with super force. Double check by releasing the lever and closing it again. Should make a slight impression on the palm. Takes practice but you'll get it. Regards and safe cycling, Tony

Hey Tony! Tried to find an email to contact you, to no avail, SO: Please try 3 and One Dry To the Touch Dry Lube (in a drip bottle)..After cleaning my road bike's chain, I used this as lube..I've got way over 300 miles on the chain and still no noise and the shifting is great..Wonder what your thoughts would be on using this lube..Thanks for all your VERY helpful videos....

Did you know that regular 3 in 1 oil was originally made as a chain lubricant? It is about average when compared to other lubricants. The 3 in 1 DRY Lube must be a relatively new product. I have it on order and will give you some feed back after the holidays after I've had a chain to give it a try. Thanks for the info and safe cycling, Tony
