I mean... there isn't a rule regulating people from staying at the back throughout the race and still sprint for "first place" right? So why should they be so mad? Different strategies and mindsets are what make a cycling race fun!
"your mind can go to a dark place where you start to question whether all this time on the bike is even worth it" IF THAT AINT THE TRUTH! congrats on 12th. 40yo cat5 racer here. Relatively new to the sport (purchased a road bike in december 2022). Finishing out my first full racing season rn. I got on a podium in April of this year and never returned. Every race since has been a "learning" opportunity for me. I blew up on the last lap in my most recent race (7/20) trying to hold onto position at the front of the race (instead of continuing to conserve and watching for moves). Thanks for what you had to say about resiliency "when you put yourself out there and don't achieve the ideal outcome, it's not failure. it is not a reason to stop trying". I needed to hear this. As someone who has never done competitive sports prior to cycling, one of the things that hit me after my last race didn't turn out as well as i had hoped was how difficult it must be for professional athletes to reach the top of their game, but not...win a championship...or get the medal...or get voted onto the all star team or whatever. Being a good athlete isn't just about being excellent at your sport, but also about mental resiliency - finding what was praiseworthy about your performance and continuing to push yourself to get better. thank you again for your transparency. sorry to hear about your crash at grants
Or discipline yourself to compete in proper form which could take some time or even years if it’s worth it to you but to risk injuring yourself and others ain’t cool.all because you want YT content or some recognition is ridiculous give yourself some time and effort to see if you even really want it bad enough instant gratification can get you seriously injured in cycling sports!
Road cycling: The only sport where it's ok to be entitled enough to tell other riders how they should ride their bikes. Ask them if they want to speak to your manager next time ;-)
In the group that i ride with, we are all equally strong and fit but the guys in the group that race, whine constantly about everything. Its like racing sucks all the enjoyment out of cycling.
Because it’s so challenging and results are hard to get I understand how it can suck the fun out of riding, but that’s on the rider. You can choose to view the challenges as a reason to enjoy and appreciate cycling even more
Its not a rule in cycling no. But it feels more like waiting in line at the supermarket, and some1 skipping infront. Usually if u dont take ur turn, the rest of the group will try n drop you, especially in the thougher categories.
LOL... then they use team tactics rules on you saying they can't chase or rotate because a teammate is up the road or coming back from behind. Rules of the Road. It's very interesting how it all works out and who gets the best options when the game is on. Sometimes honest communication is the most effective strategy.... or not!
You can always wait till you’re strong enough to compete in a particular group so not to ruin other guys efforts who actually took the time and discipline to prepare properly to compete.also not to mention (ITS A BIG DEAL!) when your wiping out other riders with expensive bikes it’s kinda dooshy to assume it’s “not bad” you could have made the simple choice to forfeit the race or drop out until your fit enough to compete as a cyclist.its not a game for most guy’s they deserve a fair effort wile competing also.
This is an insane opinion ngl like he is just pushing as many watts as he can and he finished the race so noone should be complaining. If they don't want him in their group and are in much better shape then they should just drop him.
@@phenax1144 no or let the ego die off and just come back better & ready wile giving yourself a better chance at competing at any level it’s how athletes in all sports do things it’s the baby steps that get you there! It’s not just competing because you enjoy something because there’s risk to your own personal safety and others and that works with all! Competitive sports.
