Optimate Solar 10W Bike Battery charger, what's it like and does it work in the UK during wintertime? Let's find out. Full disclosure, I have no connections to Optimate, I purchased the item with my own money so you can be assured of an unbiased subjective review of this product.

I appreciate seeing your setup and feedback, also knowing you and your wife are motorcyclists! As you correctly have figured out, each bike needs a separate solar charger i.e. should not 'gang' charge bikes in parallel as the better battery takes it all with the weaker ones trailing behind. It's also not the safest. We recommend 10W for bikes as we know there is never a perfect mounting position e.g. like your side of the shed, convenient, but not perfect. If you aimed the panels so that sun is perpendicular to panel surface at exactly midday, you would get more Watt-hours per day (3 hours either side of midday is most effective for solar energy). In the end, as long as more goes into the battery than goes out, you're winning as you have illustrated! The flashing charge light indicates when the controller's capacitor is discharged into the battery. Pulse charging is more effective than a really slow trickle. More sun, faster flashing!

I bought a 60w model at the beginning of the year for my car as I work away a lot. No matter what inclination I have the panel mounted it has not once shown the charge light as active. The supplier I purchased from basically criticised my original mounting position and told me it was my fault. Currently mounted pointed directly at the sun as I type and still not a thing

A NOCO10 will repair batteries as well as being a charger good investment

@@BikeRiderReviews Well after seeing your vid I bought the 40w system & it works just a you described. I had been having issues for ages with the battery going flat but not been able to ride that often. The system took the battery from unable to start the bike to starting every time and letting me know what the battery condition was. Thanks for the video. Money well, spent.

I made my own a few months ago with a $20 flexible 50watt panel and a $10AUD 20amp 12v solar charge controller that I siliconed to the bottom. I already had a SAE cable to hook up.

Nice review, thank you Question please If the bike/car is running and the alternator is charging the battery, does the controller automatically disconnect the solar charging?

What type of battery do you have in your bikes? I'm interested in one of these for my AG-801 lithium batteries. The panel says for 4 cell in series. The AG-801 is 8 cell, but i believe it's 4 cells in series x2 in parallel so hopefully ok

Thanks for checking out the channel. I'm using just the standard lead acid batteries. Sorry I can't really advise you on this. I'm sure if you do a quick Google search the answer will be on there. What I can say is the charger is working great. Due to ill health my bikes have not been started for around 5 months. I started them yesterday and they started easily with no battery issues. You would of been better off investing in a 100 watt panel and charge controller ,not much more money ,and you can do more with it including 12v lighting off a battery ideally they need to be facing south in the Uk
