I did it on a full sus trail bike and wow, it was so much more fun on the descents and washboard than in 2021 when I rode a semi-rigid. Full sus all the way. (Of course, I haven’t paid to service it post-race yet 😂)

For me the washboards are best dealt with by adjusting the tire pressure.

The people the title is "Bikepack racing", i know you are mostly cycling enthusiasts like me remember to don't screw your minds with equipment questions, the old sofiane already made awesome rides with crappy bikes "ken les stat". Unless you are ultra racers (in this case i hope you got sponsors) fancy gear it's just there to gives you more confidence, peace of mind and the illusion you can do your ride, it should not be an obstacle to ride or gives you doubt about having not the right gear. Even Sofiane don't make the best gear choices but he doesn't know it yet but it doesn't stops him to ride.

Sofiane, congrats on your win. These videos are awesome and I'm really looking forward to the GoPro video. I just re-watched your set-up from 2022 last night and was intrigued by your suspension seat post. How much better for your derrière is that set up vs. the standard carbon post vs. the full suspension? I also appreciate your honesty with respect to gear - you don't see that a lot on RU-vid!
@sofianeshl
@sofianeshl 11 месяцев назад
I think the suspension seat post is a pretty good option. Josh Ibbett was using one this year as well. The weight penalty is negligible and it does help with some of the bumps you encounter on the way.

Thank you Sofiane for another informative video! Always hyped you bring out a new one and I was just talking about your videos to a couple of bikers I met yesterday on the trail as you have been inspiring me to get into bike touring. I just completed the King Alfreds way today (did you ever go around this trail?) and yesterday my Garmin edge 830 died from getting rain on it which was a shocker as I thought they were water proof?! I wanted to ask if this one you are using the Solar 1040 is waterproof and if the warranty covers water damage? Or what to do about that do they require protection and I didn't realise with a cover or something?!. Now I have to replace mine and this one looks really good but its £630 pounds and I need to be confident its not going to drown like my present one did as here in the Uk it rains regularly.
@sofianeshl

Yes, it showed 40mm at the shock but that's not where it's measured. It should be measured at the rear wheel so this is likely to be 80-120mm depending on chain stay length.

Good question. Dunno, maybe ? Is common sense purist ? You wouldn’t put Ferrari wheels on a Prius, would you ? (It’ll be glued to the road and you’ll be lucky if it reaches 100km/h). Likewise, on a MX-SX dirt motorbike, you install narrower tires on a 125cc than on a 250cc (usually lighter junior rider +fewer HPs), OK ? Ditto between a 250cc vs a 500cc (difference in power output is considerable), right ? Then, why 50kg bicycle riders, with a power output of a few hundreds Watts, insist on fitting these 50mm+ wide tires on their 🚲 ?
