I am a bike messenger in Santiago de Chile, I have had the Cargo WiFi model for a couple of years, equipped with 2x11 Deore m5120 11-42 in cassette and 38-28 in crank, this transmission is really useful on climbs of more than 15% at full capacity (about 160 kg total weight including me) The bike feels agile and fast with or without load, in the first months it was somewhat unstable due to having a high center of gravity, but over time you get used to it and you can take very tight corners. My setup weighs around 25kg with dynamo, extender bar, fender and rear rack, you can maintain on the flat about 30-35km/h when unloaded and about 20-25km/h fully loaded It is the best bike I have and I would definitely buy it again. I loved

You know what, I lug my commuter bike up and down a 32 inch wide, 45 degree basement staircase at least twice a day, and seeing you basically form-fit that Minimax into an elevator gave me new confidence that maybe I could lug a lightweight cargo bike up and down the same staircase.

Stonking bike, looks sweet! I feel that a cargo would be the reason I go for an e-bike. My home town is full of large hills between me and the shops, so I feel like I wan the boost of power. Would really help me adjust to doing shopping but we also have high crime in our Town, so I do worry about theft from outside shops. Great video as usual!

I own a Omnium Cargo and living in a big city I feel like it’s way more convenient than a car. I’m a musician and I often carry my instruments plus effect pedal board and an amp around on it. The flat platform is so good for awkward loads like that. I also use it for my 10 mile commute and it feels surprisingly sporty when unloaded. Also works really well for some overnight camping trips. And despite all the carrying capacity it’s still light enough that I can carry it down to my cellar. If you need some carrying capacity in your life but you don’t fancy owning a car I highly recommend checking this bike out. I’m not exaggerating when I say this bike has changed my life (or at the very least my back).

I like cargo bikes and I have a bootleg one, a 26" mountain bike with an e-bike conversion kit from Green Zone Bikes and a Schwinn trailer made for young children yet useful for boxes and groceries, too. And who knows, maybe cargo bike racing will take off like gravel bike racing. We tend to race everything, good times. 😀

I really like cargo bikes both for usability and for looks. But given their high price (and the fact of having one more bike to store) I much prefer bike trailers. Yes, they look dorky. But they are just as versatile as cargo bikes, much cheaper, and when you don't carry cargo you can use the "same" bike. Let me know if you have a different opinion!

Thanks for sharing your thoughts! I've got a belt drive Mini-max scheduled for delivery this week, and I stoked! I'm hoping it can replace my current daily commuter. The size and weight of the bike was a big reason I picked it over something like a Bullitt. No elevators to my apartment so it should be easy to get in and out of. Mine is the orange "copperhead," it's not here yet, but you've already got me regretting not going for the Blurple 😅

I have the standard cargo and have been riding it daily as a commuter/errand runner/delivery vehicle. I’ve used it for local gravel rides and loaded with trail tools for maintaining the local trails. I’m absolutely smitten with it. It’s done everything I’ve asked of it and then some. The only thing i don’t like about it, and this is a nitpick, is finding a tubeless compatible front tire that fits in the meager clearance on the fork. I have had to trim the knobs on a tour to get it to fit. Other than that though, easily my favorite bike right now.

@goblinpiper

True but in my opinion you can't beat doing a grocery shop and just placing all the shopping bags into the cargo box and riding away. Being sick of having to unload groceries into panniers was why I switched to a cargo bike in the first place

The omnium cargo bikes look cool for people who want a light cargo bike to also use as a daily bike! Personally I got a Larry vs Harry bullitt because it's a lot more stable especially with heavy loads, but I can definitely imagine the Omnium would be a bit less cumbersome to use for normal day to day stuff. Not an issue for me since I have a regular touring bike too though. Your clip of the first time riding the omnium does feel suuper relatable to when I picked up my Bullitt though, I was all over the place with that linkage steering just like you hahahah After a few weeks of only riding the Bullitt I was also caught off guard when I rode my regular bike again for the first time, but once I got used to switching between the two, I don't even have to think about the way they steer anymore.

@TheJohnreeves
@TheJohnreeves Месяц назад
Oh man, I just experienced the switch back to regular bike feeling you mention. I wasn't expecting it. Got back on my road bike and the steering just felt weird! For a few minutes. I don't think the issue is the steering linkage, although I don't know what it is. I was riding a Gazelle Cabby (also a long john) for years which felt completely easy, no wobbles whatsoever at the beginning or switching bikes. But I hopped on an LvH Bullitt and immediately was challenged keeping it upright and then riding a straight line on the road. I don't know what the difference is. That said, I'm pretty comfortable on the Bullitt now. And that bike actually feels sporty and fast.
@hananas2
@hananas2 Месяц назад
@@TheJohnreeves oh yeah so I wasn't imagining that I had less trouble riding an urban arrow cargo bike once. Maybe it's the combination of the front wheel being so far away with a linkage and the handlebar and stem.

I had a Mini classic frame but built it with smaller fatter wheels 20x2.4 & 27.5x2.2 Great bike, mild regret selling it but replaced it with a Clydesdale fork on a 1990’s specialized MTB
@biosfearmag

The Clydesdale fork is similar in that it handles best when there's a load on it.
@Macuhdohnadadoh
@Macuhdohnadadoh Месяц назад
Only problem is that with a Clydesdale fork the load pivots with the fork / steering as opposed to being grounded by the frame. Maybe not a problem for everyone but I certainly find it to be a deal breaker for any cargo situation that requires a cargo bike to begin with.

I have the e-cargo (long) version. When you talk about the feel, remember that the weight on the Mini Max really sits directly over the wheel compared to the longer frame. Agree that steering is odd at first, especially in turns where you can feel the front is turning but it looks like the platform is still going straight ahead!

Looks cool. And I think even going with a 32T front chain ring would make a lot of sense. I mean… if we’re being honest, how much cranking is someone going to do on a cargo bike down a hill while carrying a heavy load? An 11-48 in the back wouldn’t hurt either. Although a double up front sounds good too. 36/24 would probably hit a sweet spot and work really nicely with the 11-40 rear.

I only need a full cargo bike about one in every five rides and I have no fun sized little people to transport. I got a large sized dog trailer 3 years ago with a 250 litre cabin and 60 x 80 cm floorspace as an intentional cargo trailer for weekly shopping and anything else and it was a fantastic and very practical decision for me personally. Fully enclosed. Just load everything into it the same as a car, zip it up and go. Nothing will fall out. Then I got an actual cargo trailer with the same floor space for large and bulky items that wouldn't fit into the dog trailer cabin like a full sized lawnmower or anything else. The front and back panels drop down for much longer loads. I found I could fit a 400 litre storage box I already had which gives it massive space. I've had over 70 kg in both of them with no problems. Although I still use the enclosed trailer 90% of the time because it's self contained and weather proof and it's still a pretty big space. I have racks, bags and baskets for every use for my ordinary hybrid bike as well so I can have pretty massive capacity if I need it. Yes I know my system isn't as perfect as a large capacity bakfiets but it's pretty damned good for mostly 13 km round trips to my local town. My trailers cost €131 and €105 respectively. Put either of them on a €600 ordinary hybrid bike and you have pretty much the equivalent of a €6,000 cargo bike and a real world practical alternative to a car.

Maybe they carry their paddle board or MTB @ the bed once in a while. 99% of the utility offered is stroking their ego as they cruise through suburbia, and would never consider a cargo bike, just like they would not consider a minivan.
