The Wallkill Valley Rail Trail runs between Kingston and New Paltz, NY and has a little bit of something for everyone. The trail passes several small lakes, through reminders of a once thriving cement industry, over the Rosendale Trestle and into New Paltz, where you can explore Historic Huguenot Street with homes dating back to the late 1600's. The trail is 21 miles long and ends in Wallkill. This ride took place on May 13, 2022.

Glad you enjoyed the WVRT. I've been playing on that corridor for about 55 years! There were tracks and trains there when I was a kid... The northern end, near Kingston, officially became a rail trail in 2009. I've been doing hazard and fallen tree removal on the tail for perhaps 7-8 years... That is a seemingly never ending job between the dead ash trees and a severe ice storm that took down 100s of trees. A lot of the tree debris you saw has been cut up but there is still more to do... I was on the trail today removing two ash that fell not far from the parking area where you started at the Kingston end. It seems you were a few weeks behind me last year in some areas of the country... I took the Empire State Trail to Albany, to Lockport, to Niagara Falls, to Cleveland, to Akron to somewhere south of Canton, OH where I picked up the Conotton Creek Bike Trail. From the Conotton I rode over to Steubenville and then on to the Pittsburgh area. From there I took the GAP and C&O trails to Washington, DC. It was about 1,200 mile trip spread over 5 weeks. I had about a week off the bike while in route to do some exploring. Nice to see your videos as I didn't really document my trip... I found it was work on my previous 6 long trips so on last summer's trip I only texted folks my location so they had some idea where I was! The caves you saw north of Rosendale were cement caves. The fences at the caves serve multiple purposes. One is that the caves are private property and they keep most trespassers out. A second reason is the caves are dangerous... cave-ins are not rare. You may have noticed the smashed fence on the west/right side of the trail with a bolder sitting on it at about 3:32 in the video?? Lastly, those caves are protected bat habitat!

We really appreciated your note. Thanks for all you do to keep the Wallkill in great shape! After all, it does lead to my ancestral home in New Paltz! We also appreciated the additional trail information that you provided. Your bike trip sounds like it was amazing; and extremely ambitious. If I do simple math, you had to ride a minimum of 40 miles every day for the 4 weeks you rode. But I'm sure it was a fabulous trip. Thanks for watching and commenting. We hope to "see" you again soon on another adventure.

I ride the Wall Kill trail a few times a year. Trivia point...at 12:30 mark, the iron bridge you were on was used in a scene from the movie "A Quiet Place" with John Krasinski and Emily Blount . Thanks for the video!

Ryan, you aren't very far away from us. You can never go wrong on the Erie Canal -- and the ROC area is a day trip for you. I think almost any section between SYR and BUF has interesting things to see (we have a video posted). The Great Allegheny Passage in PA is a definite destination trail. We just rode the entire trail in June and have the video posted in our channel. Just got home yesterday from riding the first 40 miles of the Ohio & Erie Canal Trail -- starts in Cleveland. It was very beautiful, and you can ride the train back up for about 25 miles (for 5 bucks). We will be posting that video on August 19th. There are so many great trails, it probably is hard to pick just three, but I hope these were helpful.
