The second half of our journey along the Camino de Santiago brought us through many more fascinating towns and high into the mountains before we reached Santiago de Compostela. We had a handful of mechanical problems that slowed our progress, but we concluded our ride on the Camino Frances in Santiago before boxing our bikes to fly to Dublin.

Adios Spain so peaceful Hello Ireland so pretty and green Mechanic breakdowns, fixed with smile on face, the joys of no cook meals, memorable architecture ….. all just lovely to watch. Thanks you two. Keep on peddling!

You seem very skilled bike mechanics, which I guess is necessary for a journey like this.

Great photography. We enjoy your travels. Please can we see more of you interaction with locals. Include foods from the area etc. Keep Safe Guys, especially around Ireland. 👍🏻
@RollingExistence
@RollingExistence 2 года назад
We generally don't film our interactions with people, because we're concerned that it would alter the conversation dynamic or potentially make someone uncomfortable. We understand that the people are often what really makes a place interesting, but to be honest we probably won't be filming our personal interactions very much. We could definitely work on filming food more often though, we'll keep that in mind 👍

@@RollingExistence thanks for the reply. I was thinking more about interactions with those you build a relationship with E.g. a wine maker, metal worker etc. that you may meet …. getting permission first of coarse. Either way, still enjoying watching your Odyssey. Keep Safe! 👍🏻 🚴🏻‍♂️🚴🏻‍♀️

A very pleasant series folks, how are you enjoying the new bar set up (Jones, Moloko?). Is there any going back to drops?
@RollingExistence
@RollingExistence 2 года назад
We really like the Jones bars, we won't be going back to drops anytime soon! We prefer the more upright posture and the hand positioning when braking.

Did your bikes have a ‘good’ service before you went to Spain? Brake pads failing? Oh well you enjoyed your trip, thanks for the vid.
@RollingExistence
@RollingExistence 2 года назад
Glad you enjoyed the video! Check our other videos, we've been riding for 14.5 months straight and over 12,000 miles. We service our bikes when they need it. By the time we were in Spain, we had ridden Paris to Athens and then across Italy. The retaining clip on the disc brake pads broke because the pads were worn.

So…. That was a pretty good bike box in Santiago. Did you preship it?
@RollingExistence
@RollingExistence 2 года назад
No, we just emailed a handful of shops a couple weeks before arriving to make sure they had boxes. We got pretty lucky - the shop only had two boxes available and the owner gave us a ton of foam too. It was a larger shop outside of town, the small ones usually don't keep boxes around.

And at 8:21 - not such a cute insect. That looks mighty like one of the tick species, which are common in Spain and can cause a whole range of health problems
@RollingExistence
@RollingExistence 2 года назад
Yeah there were a ton of ticks at one of our campsites in particular, which is where that was filmed. They were so huge that we could feel them before they bit us, but it was still pretty unsettling.

I am looking at walking most of the Camino Northern Route but would like to bike the last 200 miles. Do I need to book a bicycle ahead of time or will I be able to show up in Gijon and rent a bike without advance notice?
@RollingExistence
@RollingExistence 2 года назад
We didn't look into bike rentals, but probably a good idea to call some shops and ask if they tend to book up, especially if you're going in the high season.

Hello from French-speaking Switzerland:) I love your videos, congratulations for such beautiful reports (including with the jellicle cats;) I have 2 travel bikes, one with a chain with 3 x8 chainrings (one of which is very large for steep climbs). But above all, I was able to remove the disc brakes and replace them with V-brakes. The result is very continuous braking (without risk of skidding and a little stronger braking when it rains but I can loosen the cable (BBB tristop). As for the wheels/rims, I was also able to fit very solid old ones As a result, despite rocky paths and sometimes holes that I couldn't avoid (downhill), after 25 thousand km, I still haven't broken any spokes!As for the V-breaks, it costs me approx. €$ 16.- to change it and the complete system (very rare replacement) around 35.- On a solid steel frame, if you are a good handyman, you can have the parts that allow you to bolt the V-s breaks). If you pass in the region, I will gladly tell you a magnificent tour to do:) Have a nice trip and best regards^^

Hi Why are you doing no cook ??
@RollingExistence

We tend to go through phases - we'll cook for awhile and then do no cook for awhile. Especially when it's cold/rainy, having one less chore at camp just makes life a little bit easier.

@@RollingExistence The New Forest in Southern England has some good cycle routes, a few of them traffic free. But it gets busy so you won't have the solitude you had in Spain! Also the Isle of Wight is worth a visit!

Thanks for the video's! 🙌 what kind of bikes are those? Do they have some pedal assistance 🤔 I was just there and I cycled from León to Santiago on a gravel bike and it was pretty difficult we're going back I'm not sure if I can mentally make the jump all the way to e-bike but then again I want it to be more of a cultural experience and don't necessarily feel like you have to suffer to enjoy the Camino😊

Awesome, we would really like to hike one of the Caminos in the future! We had a lot of fun biking it, but it's a bit less social than hiking since you're generally going faster than the walkers. Still, it was a really great experience!
