Bila Fadhlina, Menteri Pendidikan, Ingin Baik Pulih Pendidikan? (Will Fadhlina overhaul education?) 

Dulu masa tadika dan sekolah rendah saya dipulaukan sebab saya bukan islam. Ini penyakit kronik masyarakat. Entah kenapa budak2 islam harus diajar memulaukan pelajar bukan islam. Ini kisah benar berlaku di Sabah. Apa rasionalnya? Apa kebaikannya? Sudah namanya negara multiracial. Kenapa tidak diajar bersikap terbuka?

In the 50s and 60s, each teacher will specialize in one or two subjects. My teachers were mostly Kirby or Brinsbard trained. Do you know how they went to England, by hitchhiking. According to my teacher, street light was the only source for studies at night. Daytime is for working or help his parents. Most of the students were doctors, lawyers, teachers, engineers, head of government departments and of coarse some like me didn't make it to the top. We had lots of woodwork and metal workshop lessens. Those were the days. It will never come back 😔

Yang pasti kes ini tak ada didengar di Sarawak, isu perkauman ini banyak diceritakan oleh ramai pelajar Sarawak yang belajar di Semananjung .Isu system pendidikan yang diguna pakai oleh Sarawak yang ada dari awal 50an hingga akhir 70an guna Common Entrance Examination, Sarawak Junior Certificate, Senior Cambridge Certificate dan Highest School Certificate rasanya banyak membawa kualiti pendidikan yang cemerlang seterusnya keperingkiat unibersiti bertaraf dunia. Semenjak penerapan system pendidikan kebangsaan Malaysia, saya berani berkata Malaysia berjaya mendapat jumlah kuantiti yang banyak tetapi kekurangan kualiti .

Everything you say is true, Pn Mariam. There is so much rot in schools and the education system. And the people at the top wonder why national schools are not the schools of choice. Teachers are not allowed to voice anything on educational policies or even give suggestions. I'm so glad to have retired though I loved my work and the children ( most of them anyway)

I miss the 60's and 70's...we were far more cosmopoliton, spoke better, articulated our thoughts better. The radios and TVs were amazingly good..we had Jazz, we had great teachers...Cool Eurasians neighbours,...sigh!

Bagus isu isu yg dibangkitkn tpi masyarakat kurang celik.. sbb pendiidkan dh dijadikan politik kjaan yg memerintah. Sepatutnya sektor pendiidkan mesti bersifat berkecuali Dan ada national vision....

Cakap terus terang....sistem(kurikulam) pelajaran di sekolah Kerajaan Kebg perlu di rombak dan beri lebih tupuan pada Bahasa Melayu, Bahasa Inggeris dan subjek2 mathematic dan sains. Subjek2 lain biar jadi pilihan murid2. Cara sekarang sudah luput lama. Engage with Educational consultants of international ranking for our universities both local and international. Otherwise at the rate things are going on in Malaysia there will be total decline in our standards of education over a period of 10 years. Set the required examination as recommended in both primary and secondary schools. DON'T HAVE UNNECESSARY POLITICAL INTERFERENCES.

If and when the Education Minister wants to overhaul the education system, we hope she will change to cater to all BANGSA MALAYSIA....however we are not so confidence NOW unless she proves us wrong

I studied in Covent school were discipline was very strict even the teachers very dedicate to their teaching well exposed.Why even the Malay Girls would go along very well with us and speak English fluently. They should have an Educated person with good knowledge wisdom understanding and upgrading with the current issues and do the systematic way, which should have done a long time ago. How i wish you Mariam Mokhtar be our Education Minister. You have knowledge and well exposed to all issues. Once again i thank you for bringing this issue.

My sis in law was the first batch to go Kirby training . They were excellent teachers and utter shame if compared. Religion + Education end result,discrimanation,isolation,separation,motivation zero,very sad to see such. Thank God,my daughter completed her degree though. My encouragement and her determination succeed in her degree in Accounting.

Keep it up.Yes I guess the majority of parents (learned) are vying for a proper leader to take up the helm of our Education Ministry but unfortunately we don’t seem to have that yet for now. Pada asasnya, ini merupakan masalah sistemik, di mana sistem politik kita, sebalik daripada mengutamakan kualiti sosioekonomi rakyat biasa yang baik, mengutamakan pula pengautan keuntungan dlm kerjaya politik bagi diri sendiri. Tetapi, mereka tidak mahu rakyat sedar ttg ketidakadilan dlm dan kerosakan sistem politik yg sedia ada. So apa mereka buat? Mereka menjadikan bangsa dan agama sebagai senjata politik, bagi memanipulasi emosi rakyat biasa dan menarik perhatian mereka drpd masalah sebenarnya. Masalah dlm sistem pendidikan kita merupakan suatu gejala oleh tindakan tersebut serta sistem politik kita.

The whole problem with the education system started when Dr. Mahathir deemed that Malays were intellectually inferior to the other races . In essence this is what he did . He should have instead made it possible for the Malays to achieve a standard of academic excellence to equal or out strip the non Malays . Which in essence he didn't . The Malays are just as intelligent as other races and there are some who are geniuses just like in other races but the political leaders before suppressed this truth so as to control the Malays who are the Majority .

As a retired principal who is also v familiar with the Spore syllabus, I was hoping that the new Education Minister would improve our education system and standard. Unfortunately, she's just as clueless n stress on the wrong things. If only the present government would engage Pn Mariam as Adviser to the Education Minister or better still as an Education Minister. If Pn Mariam goes into politics, I will definitely support you. May God bless you abundantly with good health n please continue to speak up for justice and without fear or favour.

Where are the DEDICATED SELFLESS & CARING teachers who feels that teaching is an HONOURABLE VOCATION ?

Fadhlina is not fit for this role. She has been digging the same story for a very long time while no movement and/or development in the education system in Malaysia.

This minister is a wrong choice for the ministry.

Kerja berpasukan, kerja berpasukan, kerja berpasukan... Arahan yang kuat mesti datang dari PM Anwar dan kepimpinannya. Berikutan itu, Fadhlina mesti mendapatkan bantuan dan input daripada semua pemimpin di semua industri negara untuk menentukan dengan tepat jenis dan kualiti tenaga kerja yang diperlukan di negara ini. Ini bagi membolehkan beliau dan pasukan pendidikannya merangka rancangan yang betul untuk menyediakan tenaga kerja yang diperlukan oleh Malaysia untuk pembangunan negara. Itulah maksud kerja berpasukan yang sebenar. That, too, "Malaysia boleh" is all about.

Teachers used to teach/educate. Nowadays they are required to do 1001 other "chores" so as to impress the principal . Who is the loser here? Students of course!

banyak kolej dan university, baik utk investor/kroni bila pertambahan pelajar tetapi merugikan rakyat dengan hasil kelayakan yg tidak berkualiti, lambakan dip/dagree yang tidak menepati kehendak tenagakerja. jangan cipta program baru tetapi study bagaimana negara maju meningkatkan kualiti pelajar. Fadhlina perlukan kumpulan pemikir yg bagus bagi merangka kementerian pendidikan bukan pilih mereka2 yang otak beku.

Banyak guru yang tak layak puan,tak datang ke sekolah, yang boleh cakap "get lost" bila murid tanya sesuatu yang mereka tak faham.

Lecturer here. I'm about done with the Higher Education System in Malaysia. I try but I'm exhausted! No access or inclusion for lecturers with chronic illness. I love to educate my Malaysian students but maybe I should think of me and leave Malaysia. 😢

most of those in the teaching profession are there by fluke, they do not have pure intentions to teach...whereas the Kirby trained teachers were there simply by the love of teaching!!! just go to any SK and SMK and look at the behaviour of the teachers

Bertentangan dengan dakwaan bahawa sekolah vernakular adalah tempau pembiakan sentimen perkauman, sebenarnya sekolah kebangsaanlah yang sering menjadi tempat pembiakan sentimen perkauman. Ini yang aku dapat lihat dengan mata aku sendiri di sekolah menengah anak aku. Sekolah ini berada di dalam kawasan perkampungan Melayu tetapi bersebelahan dengan kampung baru Cina. Oleh itu, walaupun pelajar Melayu menjadi majoriti terdapat juga ramai pelajar dari kaum Cina. Apa yang aku lihat sepanjang lima tahun ini pelajar-pelajar jarang berinteraksi antara kaum. Pelajar-pelajar ini biasanya berkumpul bersama rakan-rakan dari kaum mereka. Menurut anak aku, mereka ini tidak bercampur-gaul dengan rakan-rakan mereka dari kaum lain samada ketika di dalam atau di luar premis sekolah. Begitu juga ketika dalam kelas atau menghadiri aktiviti ko-kurikulum. Pandangan serupa juga aku kerap saksi di sekolah-sekolah di sekitar taman perumahan aku dan juga di taman-taman perumahan yang berdekatan. Tanggapan bahawa sekolah vernakular antara punca rakyat berbilang kaum gagal menyatupadukan rakyat juga meleset. Anak aku belajar di sekolah vernakular ketika di sekolah rendah. Walaupun majoriti pelajar di sekolahnya terdiri dari kaum Cina tetapi pelajar bukan Cina juga agak ramai, dalam sekitar 20 peratus di mana pelajar Melayu adalah paling tinggi di antara pelajar bukan Cina. Di sekolah itu, semua murid sekolah diberi layanan dan taraf yang sama tanpa mengira kaum atau agama. Keutamaan diberi kepada pembelajaran dan bukan aktiviti-aktiviti keagamaan dan kebudayaan. Guru-guru sekolah itu tidak malas atau sering bercuti atau tidak hadir di kelas. Tahap disiplin di SJKC itu amat tinggi dan pihak sekolah tidak teragak-agak mengambil tindakan disiplin terhadap murid-murid yang tidak berdisiplin. Ibubapa murid-murid yang bermasalah ini juga diminta berjumpa dengan guru disiplin atau guru besar. Bagi ibubapa yang pernah menghantar anak-anak mereka belajar di sekolah vernakular ramai di antara mereka teragak-agak untuk menghantar anak-anak mereka menyambung pelajaran di sekolah SMK. Ini bukan kerana mereka tidak mahu anak-anak mereka bersua dengan pelajar dari kaum lain terutama kaum Melayu tetapi jelas mutu pengajaran dan layanan pihak sekolah serta rakan-rakan sekolah terhadap anak-anak mereka yang bukan Melayu tidak menepati piawaian mereka.

I didn't know that the National schools separate Muslims and non-Muslims during recess time. When and how did this happen. In my time in the national school, there was no such separation. No wonder there is discrimination among races.

Walaupun dilantik utk jadi Menteri Pendidikan....tahu menahu utk rombak sistem pendidikan kita tak nampak apa2 pun. Yg nampak tukar ...kasut sekolah. Bawak masuk balik ajaran Moral dan Civic. ...cari idea dari Jepun atau Korea dan buat survey sistem pendidikan mereka dan amik apa yg boleh meningkat taraf pendidikan kita.

Tq, Mariam. Meritocracy died a long time ago. The quality of (many) tchrs hv miserably spiralled downwards. Many pupils are victims of this whole stuation...but it's not seen as a matter of Top priority. 'Moral Education' in schools has failed. Try going undercover and you will see during 'Moral Education' , the pupil/ pupils would be in 1 corner and the teacher in another corner. God only knows what sort of 'learning' takes place here. 😮

The current education system is beyond repair. Totally hopeless. therefore parents are suggested to send their children to overseas school if they can. The elite and politicians send their children to overseas schools but the ordinary malaysians are left in lurch. Majority of the teachers are clueless and racist.

Our Malaysian Education System is rotting.!!! And we are not on par with other countries education. How to advance??? It is so different from my days of education in schools, taught by Kirby trained teachers. No racial, no religion discrimination ??? I am worried for my grandchildren.!!! Not all parents can afford to send our kids to private schools. Why?? All these Education Ministers have mindset , turning , burning all the good systems suppose to apply for future generations. Poor education will bring down the country economy.

The Education department need to ask why many parents sent their children to private schools and Malay parent sent their children to Chinese schools. All these parents want their children to have a good well round education so they will have a chance to compete in the world platform. Increasing religious teaching in national type schools is counter productive. They should emphasize in computer science, English and even Chinese as China is going to put ride the US. Chinese language is vital.

The first PM who dares to put in meritocracy into the system will be the “Abe Lincoln” of Malaysia, Caliph of Malaysia and Allah will bring many graces to him.

Well said. I really appreciate your salient points on addressing the fundamental issues that is being practice even in our current ruling govt. Racial segregation is stll in existence despite being reprimanded. I welcome the suggestions brought up by yourself without fear n favor. The irresponsible teachers who are being absent to school for so many days without valid reasons should b interrogated. And also,the person who responsible for such act is the headmaster. The HM hs to be transferred elsewhere.

Betul Kak MM, zaman saya boleh kata hampir semua yang keputusan peperiksaan kurang memuaskan kena sumbat kat fakulti pendidikan dan fakulti perancangan bandar. Semata mata nak ramaikan pemegang ijazah. Kesannya nampaklah sekarang. Sebab itu, semua perlu diberikan peluang saksama untuk memulihkan masa depan negara. Sistem quota sebenarnya melemahkan generasi muda. Masih ramai tak sedar, tahu tahu dah jauh ketinggalan.

Kini kita ade Kementerian pendidikan - Fadhlina dan kementerian PendidikanTinggi - Khaled Nordin. Tengok thumbnail cuma ade muka Fadhlina. Dalam video pulak sebut mengenai kes2 universiti yg kini bawah tanggung jawab menteri pendidikan tinggi. Kita perlu berlaku adil. Kalau kes dah jadi kes polis, polis lah yg perlu jawab. Ade berberape perkara yg telah di ambil tindakan seperti kelayakan untuk menjadi guru yg kini diperketat dan mempunyau merit sahaja diambil. Perlu semak semula kenyataan/tuduhan yg dibuat. Yes, after getting bullied and caning at 15 by Indian master in Kuala Lipis in 1970, I have no desire to attend anything in Clifford School.

It's not an easy task. History books for form 4 students was changed in 1989- 1990. My spm was in1988. Syllabus changed to mould, racism had long time create, this generation we had. There's only still a long long way to go for us all. You touched on teachers. Pay attention to syllabus too. There is a change. Look into it.

Saya setuju, ada pelajar tahfiz yg terlibat dgn kes² yg dikatakan Pn. Maryam. Ini adalah krn ada dikalangan anak² yg tidak dpt dikawal oleh ibu bapa dan sklh biasa, ibu bapa akan hantar ke sklh pondok dan tahfiz. Mrk ini rasa terpaksa dan tidak ada niat pun utk belajar di pondok atau tahfiz. Tp terpaksa.

Perkauman semua sama lah. Kita d Sabah & Sarawak jga tdk kurang dgn perkauman - org semenanjung yg datang bekerja atas SYMP tinggalkan kg halaman, tinggalkan negeri berkerja di daerah, kg terpencil juga di maki hamun dgn kata² yg tdk sepatutnya...

Kerajaan perlu adakan seorg kerani kelulusan spm utk mengisi data data berkaitn murid, markah markah, dll supaya kurang kerja pengkeranian guru.
