I'm 68 in good health and had a bilateral (simultaneous) tkr in Western Australia - April 2021. Surgery went well and rehab afterwards was ok. Only issue I have is ongoing pain (although not super intense) and stiffness but have been assured it will settle but it does seem like a long haul. I regularly use my 'desk bike' but It does get you down a bit - just have to try and stay positive.

I'm 68 also and I had a TKR in March. My pain level is still high (8-10) almost every day. I'm still going to PT twice a week, my depression level is off the charts.

52 years old bilateral complete 7 weeks ago. There was no choice for me. I had bow legs that were 13&14.5 degree angles. Constant pain and I held out all I could. Finally couldn’t walk downstairs or even swim. Now ROM is normal on both knees. Yes some stiffness and muscle soreness because my gait is completely new. I started PT two months before surgery and now 3x per week. The sleeping for a month was horrible but the pain wasn’t as bad as I had in my head.

Take a look at some of Dr. Dibra's previous videos on this channel. What is your current range of motion? Is the stiffness constant or does it improve with movement?

A horrible idea that only insurance companies would love. One procedure. One hospital stay. Yet, you compromise the long term well being of the patient. Replacing one knee at a time is the preferred method for a good result.

You are right and this is what the research is suggesting. Thanks for commenting.

Everyone is different. I had no choice. I looked at it as a competition with myself. I could continue to live in pain as it worsened or move forward. After surgery it was no picnic the first 10-14 days but better every day. The complete commitment to PT before and after then being as mentally prepared as I could went a long way. My doctor followed this degenerative condition for THIRTY years. The worse set of knees he had ever seen. Success can be had but it really is for the individual. 7 weeks and I have no limitations but everything within reason letting my body tell me what to do. Signed up for my first golf outing in about 4 years for September. I am going to be awful and LOVE every swing.
