Wow… angry comments section. I grew up with this stuff, in the States, we called it “head music” because it was the stuff you closed your eyes and listened to. I think you did a pretty good job on the list, thank you!
i dream the day prog returns, prog is by far my favorite genre, to grow up with that would be amazing, these days people listen to shit in the radio and not that many actually listens to prog. Pink floyd is famous today but most young people know them for songs as another brick in the wall and wish you where here and unfortunate dont explore bands more.
Yeh yeh many were left out but at least the british even make docs about prog. and these were his top 10. we are lucky to see prog at all. now to see if we can get vh1 to broadcast it..right?
@Matshoppahulle god yes, listen to: minitary of lost souls, octavarium, in the presence of enimies change of seasons, a nightmare to remember, forsaken, metropolis part 1, the miricle and the sleeper, those are the best songs ever writen, (i'm sure i've missed a few out but these are a good start to any DT quest)
Yeah, I realised the error after posting the comment, but given the sound of his voice, I could be forgiven for spelling the female version of his name :P
Well there are people that discuss wether or not Pink Floyd is prog rock or not. I'd like to discuss what they tell you on this docummentary because is wrong. Waters brought Syd and Syd brought Dave. They went "prog" because they couldn't write a succesful single. Not because "Roger had different ideas". This docummentary is not serious. Not to mention that the musical talent came from the rest of the boys. Roger wrote the lyrics, and yet. they were "His songs".
The British media should never be allowed to profile Progressive music. Sure the Brits may have invented Prog, but as a society they've never understood nor appreciated it. A "Prog-umentary" could only ever be truly done properly by the Italians or the Japanese. Even the Americans could do better than the Brits could. Take Prog away from the Brits.
I always thought all these groups featured were/are great, but--sorry, folk--King Crimson in my mind seem to hold a certain prog-rock regality that all the others simply don't have. In fact, two groups that don't get a mention in this series--Focus and the more recent Sonic Youth--appeal to me as far more experimental and in-your-face-boring-shithead than any Moody Blues or Genesis.
