DG still playing wots the deal live and y not. Hey dapto. I'm from dapto too. Got this album in 72. Have many Floyd's, but spin this one more than any of the others barr green is the colour from more. I'd suggest it's about my youth and memories other than that maybe I'm not such a good listener anymore. It holds a special place in my heart.
@@williamwalton583 turned many people onto Pink Floyd with this amazing album BEFORE Meddle or Dark Side. When they heard Echoes, they were prepared.. 😉
My Mom passed away 10/26/22. She was 91. Ever since I was a kid I loved this band. DSOTM was my first album. She heard me play all their albums throughout my life. She used to say "Of all the music you listen to, I really like that Pink Floyd guy. His music is beautiful". I miss her....♥
Sweet. In the last month of my dad's life we listened to a lot of music together. Sometimes his, a Beethoven piano concerto for example, sometimes mine. One night I put Dark Side of the Moon on. He smiled and said "I like this." But the really important thing was that he had a brain tumor and he had already been having trouble communicating. It was easy to guess that he was just totally out of it. As we listened to DSOTM we were holding hands... when the voice comes on saying "I ain't afraid to die; I can go anytime" (paraphrase) my dad squeezed my hand. Me and my mom/sisters knew he was going to die already, but me knowing that he understood this meant so much.
@@toddthing Music is the one thing that crosses all boundaries. it's what keeps me going. And oh the happy tears and happy memories it creates for a lifetime.
@@candynolder You're absolutely right. I'm 58 years of age now and have tremendously enjoyed Pink Floyd throughout my life ever since I was about eight years old. Have everything they ever did all on Harvest. Still listen to tonnes of music, classical and otherwise. I was very fortunate to live in the UK for 22 years and saw a multitude of bands live (perhaps over 1000) over a ten-year period largely thanks to the wonderful D-J John Peel on Radio one in the early eighties. Yes, saw PF at Earls Court in 1980. Also, the Berlin performance of the Wall. Just marvelous. All their famous works very good, but right now I'm tremendously enjoying More and Obscured by Clouds. Both are also very interesting films I haven't seen in donkey's years. Have to look them up at some point.
I've passed all my heavy music...Pink Floyd, led Zeppelin, Rush, tool, Scorpions, etc to my grandson and I'm proud of him and you as well. Classic rock will never die with young fans like yourself keeping it fresh
People often mock what they dont understand. You are just several steps ahead of them. You found Floyd and your life will be richer for it.. Pretty cool huh?
We'll never c this quality again . When our stories are wrote the name Pink Floyd will b like Mozart and ovid are to us. Top quality . Love all the early suff .
This and 'More' my favourite Pink Floyd albums. Great production with a warmth, not too clinical, great combination of sounds and tunes, very human moods. Used to have the albums back to back on a C90 cassette and loved listening to it doing jobs. Thanks Pink Floyd.
Pink Floyd is therapeutic. No matter how you're feeling there's an album that suits the mood. Like a friend with multiple personalities that are all great!
Pink Floyd (from begining of 66/67 to mid 80's) and Hawkwind (from 1970 to mid 80's especially) have both writeen and played the most powerful music and lyrics of all. Music and lyrics that is life changing, inspirational, educational (warnings of corporate dystopia) and hope giving in the form of a real counter cultural message. If all teenagers listened to the music and lyrics of both bands work from the above years especially, it'll help build healthy adults witha wholesome outlook on life.
My copy is 49 years old! Bought it in 1973 right after getting DSOTM. I was 13 years old. Music was magical in those days. Today’s music not so much of a mystery. Pink Floyd still has that mystery and magic every time I listen to them.
60's and 70's music was inspired by Lsd, and the counterculture against vietnam. we lost our spine somewhere along the way to today. ive done more than my fair share, as i believe there is something to be gained from the experience. im only 39 myself but that era of music speaks to me.
I bought my copy in 1973 also. I discovered it by accident at the record store and I'm puzzled to this day why the album or the movie (which in my opinion isn't very good) didn't get any promotion that I can recall. It's a great transition between Meddle and Dark Side of the Moon!
I think, and I could be wrong, that they once were great and had a good time with that greatness but went in the wrong direction in '76-'77. Of course they have still managed to come up with some great tunes but really? the Floyd at their best went from '69-'75. That's about it. Move on; everything else is negativity and craziness. Please take care and God Bless.
I remember when I was introduced to Pink Floyd, as a teenager in the late ‘70’s. It was dark side of the moon, meddle, and obscured by clouds. I instantly took to this music… Played it endlessly. Still love it❤👍☮️🎸
What a profound experience! I haven't heard this in years, and I just turned 30! Time itself just gets by so quick.. as young as I am, I'm humbled to be sitting here with you guys enjoying it the way I do ❤ Cheers boys!
I left the north of Pakistan in 1989 and made my way to Chapora in Goa-which in those days was no more than a small villagefor a much needed rest having had amoebic dysentery in northern Pakistan. It was an awful journey but when I finally got there someone was playing Obscured by Clouds in a cafe and just as I gazed at the first beach with coconut palms on it that I had ever seen ,the track Absolutely Curtains' started. Whenever I play that track it all comes back to me......What a great album.
this album is something for many people. for me, it is being 16 years old, walking to school, my friends houses and work with headphones on playing a steady rotation of this album, atom heart mother, dtotm and 2112 by rush. all on cassette. amazing walks. i had grown up with a lack of foundation and a love of music. discovering pink floyd and rush at 15 was transforming to me. it showed me that music can take us away, it can inspire us, it can impress us. it can cause us to critique that which we can not come close to making and there was a lot of pain in some of it. today, i play guitar, good enough to probably bang this song out in some form. i never really saw that coming, as i never aspired to be like the musicians, except neil peart.
Good on you brother - some more wonderful discoveries to make: Genesis, Yes , Jethro Tull, Gentle Giant, Van Der Graaf Generator and Peter Hammill, Caravan, Camel, Spirit, Kansas and Jimi Hendrix of course, to name a small selection. Good luck.
This is one of my favorite pink Floyd albums. 💗 have it on vinyl since the 70s I always heard the magic. And loved the album title Another great from a legendary band. THE FLOYD. Peace love ☮️ ❤️ 8888
@markrae1317 I remember during the 70s this album was hardly noticed after the release of dsotm and wish you were here etc and after that was virtually forgotten apart from the real Floyd fans who knew a lot of the early stuff was absolutely classic up until around the early ninety's when the world really got into the Floyd sound. I was there mate trust and real talent from all the Floyd members gaurenteed that Floyd was always destined to be the legends they are now. Thanks for the interest. Craig. Lifelong Floyd fanatic
50 years ago today, this album was released. Definitely the middle child, between Meddle and DSOTM, but undeniably an underrated gem in the line up. Happy 50th, Obscured By Clouds!
@@mgronda410 “The Wall” is tenth rate compared to “Obscured..”! Don’t get me wrong, the good stuff on “The Wall” is as great as they’d ever done, but it’s overwhelmed by far too much dross. There’s about a third of that album that’s pure genius, and 2 thirds dreck. “Animals” was the last 100% classic Floyd album.
Think I bought this one in 1988 at 19 yrs old. Always loved it. Not long ago, a friend and I went on a trip, figuratively. He, having very little experience, turned on the TV. I watched the smile drop from his face in seconds. I started digging until I had assembled enough equipment to play an actual record. The 5 minute miracle I call it. Pulled this out and within minutes my friend was weeping with joy. Complete 180 degree about face. He had no exposure to anything like the ethereal melodies contained herein. Experience saved, another sole enriched. Pure bliss.
I saw the Dark Side of the Moon concert in San Francisco 47 years ago while very high on LSD ! I was completely blown away ! Fantastic band ever there was ! Wow ! 👌
I was 15 yo when I bought "Obscured by clouds" in 1972-73. It was the soundtrack of Barbet Schroeder's film "La Vallée" with his very pretty wife Bulle Ogier. Incidentally, this movie gave me the New-Guinea fauna virus, for the rest of my life. At 18, I made my first solo trip to PNG. Back then, Port Moresby was already a cut-throat. I then visited Lae and Bulolo but I missed Popondetta. Most of the time you had to fly Air Newguini. The road to Mount Hagen being just opened, I travelled to the Highlands by truck. Then Madang, Wewak and Vanimo. After my PhD, I made more trips to New Guinea, and ended up working in rural development for the next 25 years in the western Indonesian part (Irian Jaya). "Obscured by clouds" is actually the feeling you have in the pristine primary forest when you wake up and see networks of valleys downhill covered with white mist under blankets of dark clouds announcing the next rain. A wonderful soundtrack anyway. Popol Vuh also composed the music of "Aguirre, der Zorn Gottes", one of Werner Herzog's masterpieces. A must-see, with a magnificent Klaus Kinski. As to Klaus Schulze, he made "Body Love" (Blanche), a very nice record for a trivial porn movie. May our dear KS rest in peace. Amen.
Aquí empieza el subidón, un año antes "Meddle" y madre mía lo que venía a continuación, música eterna que a día de hoy tiene la misma vigencia que cuando fue grabada.
OMG, first time I've ever heard of this album and I'm over the age of 50. Listening to the first track has got its hook into me. Those keyboards are quite nice on track 2. Going down the rabbit hole, and I'm loving it. I'm really loving Pink Floyd so much more in my older age.
Hey there, Craig. I am glad knowing you have found it! Even though it was a soundtrack it is more song oriented than some others and really quite rocking! I got it the year it was released and am sure I have listened to it more than any other PF album. Peace, brother!
Thank you for doing this. Of all the floyd works I've litrally worn out on vinyl over the decades. I never got to hear this before now! It was a cool but poignant moment. Haunting to hear Sid's participation. Gave me sad goose bumps!
Invece io ti invidio. Per chi come me li conosce bene dico solo: primo, benvenuto nel club.secondo è meraviglioso avere ancora i Pink Floyd da scoprire...
Pink Floyd's finest Jewel from 1971 72.. I have loved this album since the first time I heard of it but it unheard unseen just because of the name of the band.. and I have loved this album inside now ever since.. back then Pink Floyd was obscured by clouds.. the music you strived for and enjoyed so often..
I don’t know why people keep saying that this album doesn’t sound like the rest of PF. You can absolutely hear little bits of what would eventually be songs like: Shine On, Brain Damage, Us and Them, Time, and even stuff from The Wall. It’s an amazing piece of history leading up to one of the most legendary album runs of any musical act ever.
If you listen to pre Dark Side Of The Moon, this is definitely Floyd through and through. I also suggest listening to the only two Barrett solo albums he wrote after getting booted from Floyd. Very much like early Floyd, understandably. (Those two Barrett albums were helped along by David Gilmore and Roger Waters and also produced by those two guys.) Check out PInk Floyd "Atom Heart Mother" and compare the similarities to this excellent album.
Way to go Dude ... And to be honest, that's probably a better idea than watching the movie "La Vallee" ... Excellent musical soundtrack, but the movie...? ... Maybe not so good ... 🙄
Childhood's End 21:45 You shout in your sleep Perhaps the price is just too steep Is your conscious at rest If once put to the test You awake with a start To just the beating of your heart Just one man beneath the sky Just two ears just two eyes You set sail across the sea Of long past thoughts and memories Childhood's end your fantasies Merge with harsh realities And then as the sail is hoist You find your eyes are growing moist And all the fears never voiced Say you have to make the final choice Who are you and who am I To say we know the reason why Some are born some men die Beneath one infinite sky There'll be war there'll be peace But everything one day will cease All the iron turn to rust All the proud men turn to dust So all things time will mend And so this song will end
Show
Uma boa forma de não menosprezar outras bandas é não colocar PF na categoria "rock progressivo", já que isso faz da categoria uma competição injusta, Pink Floyd é de subgênero próprio
This album fits in perfectly when examining their amazing evolution from their earliest albums, on up through Meddle, Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, Animals and The Wall. I feel blessed to have grown up alongside them!
i love this album but kind of disagree... I find it very odd in between Meddle and DSOTM... I think their soundtracks are a separate category unlike anything else they did
@@martyconroy3786 Yes....with OBC they were still evolving and yet maintained the groove allowing, like Meddle, the PF sound to stand out. Unfortunately, the album was not given the credit it deserved. Bloody hell...just listen to that opening track: Monumental!! Once they made DSotM, they moved into a new era. To many, they became the 'new' band. To those who were with them from the very start, it was simply their next progression. To me, when Wright was allowed the attention he deserved, they were Pink Floyd
4-way windowpane, or yellow berkley or orange sunshine or purple barrel in 1972 with Meddle or ELP on the Sansui and that was trippin’ for ya! Today, you couldn’t pay me enough money to take that poison! LOL!
Bought this in 1972 on vinyl floyd then we’re always in stood alone, in there music world and still now 2021,still here and still can’t get enough of them there music is always been in fashion and will never change there on there own planet musical geniuses 🎸🎸🎸
Only IF Waters and Gilmore could just get along and make one more BEAUTIFUL album I'm 37 and ive always remember listening to Pink Floyd whether it was 95x playing it from the 80-90s or my dad listening to them and I've been listening to Pink Floyd before my conception lol my dad absolutely loves PF he's been a fan since they came out
The only down fall with 8 tracks was when the head turned over in the middle of a song....but it didn't matter cause you were in control of the music in your vehicle....
I found this album quite by accident one late night. I was listening to Music Choice on cable several years ago. when the title track was played. I looked for the album online and ordered it. Pure gold! It's and underated album that is for certain. Awesome music!!!
First time ever listening to this album "for real " been a Floyd fan since the 80 s, love Meddle and Atom heart mother...have to listen to this again.....

I know that many everyday Russians are against the conflict with Ukraine, l am 57 remember the Vietnam war well. No war is a good war, there are always casualties, usually innocents, women, children and the elderly. I pray this war ends, before it gets any worse. I listen to this music and send my prayers to those suffering as a result of Putins actions. 💕💕💕 greetings from Australia
Oddly this is my favorite album. It takes me back to when I was in Louisiana for a few years and my brother scored a few peyote buttons. We still had everything in boxes and I dug out the record player ( Google it if you are lost) and laid on a couch with the boxes towering over me.
Lyrics: Obscured by Clouds: (Instrumental) When You’re In: (Instrumental) Burning Bridges: Bridges burning gladly, Merging with the shadows, Flickering between the lines. Stolen moments floating softly on the air, Born on wings of fire and climbing higher. Ancient bonds are breaking, Moving on and changing sides. Dreaming of a new day, Cast aside the other way. Magic visions stirring, Kindled by and burning flames rise in her eyes. The door stands ajar, The wall that once were high. Beyond the gilded cage, Beyond the reach of ties. The moment is at hand. She breaks the golden band. The Gold It’s in the…: Come on, my friends, Let's make for the hills. They say there's gold but I'm looking for thrills. You can get your hands on whatever we find, Because I'm only coming along for the ride. Well, you go your way, I'll go mine. I don't care if we get there on time. Everybody's searching for something, they say. I'll get my kicks on the way. Over the mountains, across seas, Who knows what will be waiting for me? I could sail forever to strange sounding names. Faces of people and places don't change. All I have to do is just close my eyes To see the seagulls wheeling in those far distant skies. All I want to tell you, All I want to say is count me in on the journey. Don't expect me to stay. Wot’s… Uh the Deal: Heaven sent the promised land Looks alright from where I stand 'Cause I'm the man on the outside looking in Waiting on the first step Show me where the key is kept Point me down the right line because it's time To let me in from the cold Turn my lead into gold 'Cause there's a chill wind blowing in my soul And I think I'm growing old Flash the readies wot's... uh the deal Got to make it to the next meal Try to keep up with the turning of the wheel. Mile after mile Stone after stone You turn to speak but you're alone A million miles from home you're on your own So let me in from the cold Turn my lead into gold 'Cause there's a chill wind blowing in my soul And I think I'm growing old Fire bright by candlelight With her by my side And if she prefers we will never stir again Someone sent the promised land And I grabbed it with both hands Now I'm the man on the inside looking out Hear me shout 'Come on in. What's the news and where you been?’ Cause there's no wind left in my soul And I've grown old Mudmen: (Instrumental) Childhood’s End: You shout in your sleep Perhaps the price is just too steep Is your conscience at rest if once put to the test? You awake with a start to just the beating of your heart Just one man beneath the sky Just two ears, just two eyes You set sail across the sea of long past thoughts and memories Childhood's end Your fantasies merge with harsh realities And then as the sail is hoist You find your eyes are growing moist All the fears never voiced say you have to make your final choice Who are you and who am I to say we know the reason why? Some are born Some men die beneath one infinite sky There'll be war, there'll be peace But everything one day will cease All the iron turned to rust All the proud men turned to dust And so all things, time will mend So this song will end Free Four: One, two, free, four! The memories of a man in his old age Are the deeds of a man in his prime. You shuffle in the gloom of the sickroom And talk to yourself as you die. Life is a short warm moment And death is a long cold rest. You get your chance to try In the twinkling of an eye Eighty years, with luck, or even less. So all aboard for the American tour, And maybe you'll make it to the top. But mind how you go. I can tell you, 'cause I know. You may find it hard to get off. You are the angel of death And I am the dead man's son. He was buried like a mole in a fox hole. And everyone is still on the run. And who is the master of fox hounds? And who says the hunt has begun? And who calls the tune in the courtroom? And who beats the funeral drum? The memories of a man in his old age Are the deeds of a man in his prime. You shuffle in the gloom of the sickroom And talk to yourself as you die. Stay: Stay And help me to end the day. And if you don't mind We'll break a bottle of wine. Stick around And maybe we'll put one down, 'Cause I wanna find What lies behind those eyes. Midnight blue Burning gold A yellow moon Is growing cold I rise Looking through my morning eyes, Surprised To find you by my side. Rack my brain To try to remember your name To find The words to tell you goodbye. Morning dues Newborn day Midnight blue Turn to gray Midnight blue Burning gold A yellow moon Is growing cold Absolutely Curtains: (Instrumental with wordless vocals)
First heard this in its full last summer, listened on headphones outside under the stars on a farm, smoking a bunch of weed. Followed by Meddle. Thats the best night ive ever had listening to music hands down.
Pink Floyd developed such a unique trippy mellow vibe that just became more and more brilliantly polished by Dark Side of the Moon. Much of this lesser known soundrack stuff is just as enjoyable to listen to, especially after already being familiar with the more popular material, it's like bonus greatness!
When this record arrived at home in 1972 my mother thought invaders from Mars landed ! We were so young, i was ten, and indeed we danced like martians !
Every time I hear this album or even think of listening to it, it reminds me of my dad passed 12 years now but I feel he's with me everytime I listen this album he loved floyd. ❤
I personally think this is the best Pink Floyd album ever! Not to take away from their later albums, but this one just gets me. It was written as a soundtrack for a French movie "The Valley" but the band fell out with the film company, prompting them to release the soundtrack album as Obscured by Clouds.
@@davidfay5683 Awesome!! I figured it would be strange, but the music is unparalleled. Only the "Wish You Were Here" album touched me as much as this one did, and still does.
