They measured his size and said he was too small, they measured his speed and said he was too slow, but they couldn't measure his Heart which was off the charts...Thank you Bill 👍😎
He also had a serious nose for the football. The local VW dealer had him over as a celebrity for an openhouse. That dealer was 6'6" and played basketball at Texas, his son is 6'6" too. Bill looked right at hiome with them.
@@SuperChuckRaney 6-1 definitely isn’t short!! But safeties are rarely over 6-1, and usually a bit under. Whoever said he was too small obviously knows nothing about football. 🤪
He was a smashmouth hitter with a very high football IQ. So glad he was able to stay on into the early 90s to get those Super Bowl wins. He deserved them.
Billy Bad Bates ......One of the toughest Cowboys to ever dawn the Cowboy uniform. He may not had been the most athletic cat in the NFL but when he suited up you knew he was bringing it and was leaving all on the field.
I remember when the Cowboys were in playoffs during the super bowl wins Bill bates through a playoff party for the fans at his ranch. I think he did it the 2 years the Cowboys went back to back super bowls
What A NICE man !! What I will always remember and Appreciate is the way Mr Bates always took the time to interact with my Boys each and every time my family would show up at a event where the Cowboys were. Thanks Mr Bates for all the wonderful Memories!! God Bless you and yours!!
This is the first time I've seen this & it's awesome!! I'm a native East Tennessean & a life long Tennessee Vol, so hell yeah to Bill Bates & thanks to whoever put this together!!! Awesome!!
Too Tall was the reason my love for the game became a life long passion. Billy, Woody, Emmitt and Danny White all strengthened it through the years. Darren is an amazing guy. We come from the same HS, different times though. My frosh year was the year he was drafted by the Boys and Phillipe Sparks by the Giants,( Both Maryvale boys). Woody came to visit our coaches after his first superbowl. I still remember him chucking the ring across the room in Coach Tucker's class so we could all hold it and get a good long look at it.
I miss the big pads and the big hits of the old NFL. Now, it's overpaid powder puffs wearing lacrosse uniforms. Not to mention the game rigging and fringe politics. It used to be The Game.
I remember when he was drafted by the Cowboys. He was a walk on and, I think, his wife just had twins, he was living with her parents and this was his last hope. I think that's right. I could be wrong. Anyway, he was a Cinderella story. Just came out of nowhere. And those forearms. He had massive forearms. I remember that for sure.
