Very interesting to see Bill's reaction to the Shehulk comic here since his love for sci-fi before wasn't really there. Based on the fact he really didn't want to do the Hulk show in the beginning but changed his mind when Kenneth Johnson told him it was going to remain mostly a physiological drama and not pertaining to it's comic book origins.
Wasn't there some type of contract dispute between him and Universal Studios during 1 of the later seasons, and he talked about striking unless he got a pay bump?? I thought I'd heard simething years ago to that effect. Maybe I'm wrong
It looks like Bill was actually shooting the classic Hulk episode "Earthquakes happen" at this time cause he had the exact same hairstyle in this interview and wearing i believe the same suit when he was impersonating Dr.Pattetson in that episode.
They mention Bixby’s new sitcom Goodnight Beantown which began in 1983, a year after the Hulk was cancelled. And Earthquake Happen was way way back in the Hulk’s first season in 1978.
The Savage She-Hulk was first published in February of 1980, so I'm guessing this interview was broadcast around that time? Season 3 of The Incredible Hulk was also on the air at that time, Earthquakes Happen was in season 1, episode 9 (1978).
@@roguetrooper5288 the full video of this interview between Bixby and Leta Powell is also on RU-vid and it’s dated 1983, which makes sense because at the very end of this clip they talk about Goodnight Beantown , which only ran from 1983 to 1984. What’s also of note to hulk fans is that in Goodnight Beantown, Bixby’s costar is Mariette Hartley, who played Carolyn Fields in Married.
Apparently bill bixby wanted to do another hulk movie after the death of the incredible hulk and it was gonna feature she hulk but he died before any ideas came about
They had cast Brigitte Neilsen, who was in Rocky IV, and later married Sylvester Stallone. She was a former model and was about six feet tall or so. There were even pictures of her in some light green lipstick and a oh-so-'80s leather jumpsuit, so probablyy the movie would've had Jennifer Walters as She-Hulk most of the time, like in the comics. This would've been around the time of the NBC TV movies.
@@whoami7721 Actually there was another actress and professional volleyball player named Gabrielle Reece who stood at 6 feet tall that was slated to play the She Hulk.
@@tdon39 yep I stand corrected. Gabrielle Reece was going to be She-Hulk in the TV movie with Bixby. Mitzi Kapture from Silk Stalkings was cast as Jennifer Walters.
I wrote to Gerald DiPeggio years ago. He penned the screenplays for Trial of the Incredible Hulk and Death of the Incredible Hulk. He told me "Rebirth of the Incredible Hulk" would have featured Ferrigno as the Hulk, but with Banner's intellect. I believe the idea was Banner would physically remain the Hulk until he could heal from injuries sustained at the end of "Death." Bixby wouldn't appear until the final act. Once Bixby died, alas, the project never developed.
@@richharvey9153 Thanks for that intriguing info from screenwriter Gerald DiPeggio about what could have been - that's really awesome!! And it was also super cool that you wrote that screenwriter and got the answer "from the horse's mouth", so to speak! :)
The Savage She-Hulk was first released November 13, 1979, The Incredible Hulk television series was first released November 4, 1977. Now I have heard and read that Marvel was pleased with the success of the TV show and wanted to prevent anyone one else like the Distinguished Competition from snatching up the trademark on a female Hulk ergo the comic book was launched. Albeit I think She-Hulk has more than earned her worth initially she was something done reactionary not really a brainstorm or eureka moment on Marvel's part. I encourage any fact-check if I am incorrect in my assessment of the situation.
I think it's also important to remember that the Women's Liberation movement was in full swing during this time and Marvel was trying to implement these and other progressive ideals in their publications. This, I believe, was one ingredient to Marvel's staying power and overall success.
@ 5.0 the book, un-slabbed, now, is worth around $133.00. Leave it in your collection, don't read it...it may grow in value, or sentimentally hand it down to your generations. Who knows what it will be worth in 20 years?
The woman made a slight mistake she said in the comic Jen Walters had a Disease no she did not she had been shot and was dieing. it is correct Bruce Banner gave her his blood to save her which in turn caused her to be come the She-Hulk..
@@jb888888888 Actually I think the narration in the She Hulk comic does call him "David" briefly, from what I recall. Stan Lee probably figured some people picking up the comic might only know the show. So there's some narration like, "Call him 'David,' call him 'Bruce' ... it doesn't really matter."
I have a copy of issue one...cost me an ARM and a LEG to get it back even at 5.5; used to have an 8.0 copy before I was ruthlessly ejected by an landlord who destroyed my collection
Good Night Bean Town ran from 1983-1984, so that tells you the date of this. I liked that show too. Apparently not many others did since it got cancelled so fast.
Don't you mean 😏 from September 1983 and not 1980 under the description of this video 📼? Besides, Bill 💵 Bixby’s next ➡️ CBS series _Goodnight 👍🏻😴, Beantown_ ran 🏃🏻 from April 2, 1983--January 15, 1984.
If Bill Bixby had creative freedom over The Incredible Hulk series, he would shoehorn She-Hulk in the later episodes of Season 3 and then rewrite her as the "Hulklette" who is David Banner's non-related mistress.
Que saudades desse ator e também do outro ator Lou Ferrino. Foram o melhor Hulk que já apareceram. Os de hoje não gosto, é mais virtualizado. Meu ator querido, Bill Bixby!😢 😢😢😢
She didn't. Most comicbooks list what volume it is and she probably had seen that and just thought to mention it. Amazing though she screwed up the fact she had been shot, not she had a disease to have Banner do the transfusion.
For many it's sentimental, especially with respect to the comic series from 1976 - 1980. Some of the stories from the TV show were loosely based from the comic series during production.
@@KCComics?? I said lol, which means I was joking - it was a joke based on how Banner's cousin became She-Hulk, from a transfusion he gave her, and since Bixby played Banner
She said David banner had a cousin it's Bruce lady lol but I get it. Honestly though I wonder what would have happened if he did more hulk films after death of incredible hulk or what he would think of hulk currently
You know what in The Death Of The Incredible Hulk (1990 TV movie) they should add Tawny Kitaen to played She Hulk in The Death Of The Incredible Hulk TV movie (1990)!
@@BatmanFan2274Let's put it this way then. Bill Bixby played David Banner, and Lou Ferrigno played David Banner so in essence they played the same character.
We got a six million dollar woman show, why couldn’t we have gotten a she-hulk show back then as a spin off of the hulk. I guess no women to fit like Lou did the hulk?
It would have made more sense to continue with the continuation of THE BIXBY/FERRIGNO SAGA ending with David's tragic passing and later BEGINNING WITH THE BIRTH OF HIS DAUGHTER.
@@mariomouse8265 Well no. It's correct to call Banner "Bruce" since they're talking about the COMIC BOOK. She explicitly says that in the comic Banner gives his cousin a transfusion, which does not happen in the TV show. Unless you're suggesting that Bill Bixby is so dumb he wouldn't know that the comic book's character is named Bruce so they have to dumb it down for him.
@@jb888888888 Bill Bixby was an actor. His job is not to be familiar with comics lore. His job was to bring the Hulk to television. It’s a non-issue either way - people in the 1970’s did not respect comic books or “nerd” media in general
Dumb journalist. He was never called David in the comics ever. Kenneth Johnson didn't like the name Bruce, so he named him David "Bruce" Banner for the TV show.
