I just found out about Bill Brewster a few days ago when someone shared an interview he had with a local SF dj. It was an excellent read and got me interested bc I found out that bill had a book out. I’ve been out of touch with the dance music scene and now kind of miss it and want to do some catching up. I was big on house and dance music since the mid 80’s to about 2002. I also want to buy the book , but not sure which version is the newest and revisited. There a yellow cover that states on top that it’s the revisited , another one with a dark cover that says 100 more pages added and last the one with all the album covers. Btw. all paperbacks.
Interesting bc o went from black music to those UK band in the early 80’s. I had no idea that many of them were listening to black American music. No wonder I gravitated to many of the UK groups back then bc i loved the beats. Like when I first heard confusion and and Blue Monday by New Order during the hip hop break dancing period and was shocked to find out it was done by a UK group back in like 83-84. I’m always skeptical when it’s a non American speaking on the American dance music scene, but so far he seems to know what he’s talking about. I guess I’m still remember when English ppl. came to America and many thought house was their music and new more than Americans on it. Somewhat true bc many Americans were slow to house music, but since I was there from the beginning of house music. most of the English living in the US found me different,
I knew he was London based, but having never heard an interview with him before, I always expected him to sound like Shaun Ryder, LOL ! Great guy, very interesting indeed.
