I disagree with Bill on this one. I watched ALL Sir David Attenborough's documentaries, starting from 1979(excellent quality, to this day - like old movie film scanned to 4k) - to today. Often 12 episodes per season. At the end of episode there is 10min part where they show HOW exactly they did it. And it took whole a lot of work and time. Especially time. They often sat for months observing them, in the jungle(or wherever else - like in North Polar Circle) just to catch the right moment. Behavior of many of those birds is very documented. All they mostly do in their life is 'train' to impress a female. Some birds even have a 'trainee', which follows them, is mentored for 4-5 years, and is helping his 'mentor' to impress a female - they both do the dance, but only the mentor (if successful) gets to 'mount'. Youngster trainee have to wait for his time, and for his own trainee. Bill comes a bit ignorant on this one. It's not like people have been watching birds for 5 minutes, and then giving their opinion on the bird's 'thinking'. People have been observing birds for millennia, and there are entire universities dealing only with avian species. We all have more in common with fish, amphibians, reptiles, avians and other mammals than not. Our entire body functions work generally the same - that's why drugs are tested on them. Even drugs flushed down the toilet, ending up in rivers are often having huge effect on fish and birds which eat fish. There is even bird smarted than most monkeys, and is able to solve complex problems - New Zealand's Kea parrot. Very smart and sneaky little bird. Birds are often very good builders, just as good as insects are. There are some insects like Porsche Spider - which a genius, with excellent eye-sight, which hunts...other spiders...yes...like Navy Seals or Delta....he waits, he analyzes the tactical situation and strikes when no one sees him coming. Perfect Ninja Spider Assassin. But I digress.. In the end, birds are not that different from humans. Both two legged, both have pecking order, and both spend a lot of time and effort trying to catch a female. Bill himself was saying his a slave to his sexual drive, despite his high level of consciousness. So deduct high level of consciousness, and what is left?
