It’s insane how people criticize the modern NBA as “soft”. There’s a reason why guards are valued nowadays instead of bigs. Why have skill when you can just punch them in the face?
@@Simitachi Isiah's assholeness is pretty assholeish. He doesn't have many friends in NBA for obvious reason but Magic was supposedly to be one of his buddy and later Isiah backstabbed Magic in public when Magic was diagnosed with HIV.
@@taskdon769 Nah, I get that he was an asshole but that everyone hates him thing is untrue. In fact after last dance Barkley himself said that the documentary was disrespectful to Isiah and how great he was. Bird also said the same, that his mom’s favourite player was Isiah and that he didn’t have a problem with anyone on the pistons except Laimbeer🙄
I'm from Scotland and have never seen a basketball game ever in my life and can honestly say the last dance was one of the best documentaries I've ever seen
This is different than what you mentioned Ronin, but the fact that Detroit beat Chicago twice in a row and then choose to walk off after losing that third year after winning twice in a row is such a bitch move no buts about it. Maybe i would give them the benefit of the doubt if they lost once in the the playoffs then did that, but after Jordan shaking their hands the years before makes that Detroit move so sad.... They Turned into the the badboys to the bitchboys even though they were physically hardcore and respected but mentally they were weak
I was born and raised in Los Angeles. I am a lifelong Lakers fan. I was a teenager during "Showtime " with Magic Johnson. I hated Larry Bird, until he retired. Then I appreciated him and now even love the guy.
JRT He and Jordan eventually got along during the Olympics because they both loved to play golf. They got on good terms when they would play during their free time together.
thegreatcalvinio Precisely my point. Daly could find a way to flip an enemy into an ally, so Jordan and everyone else forgets that he was the brains behind the Jordan Rules
I think the doc made the point that Jordan wasnt the only one who had a problem with Isiah, so the jordan rules stuff probably had less to do with it. Jordan could've been the only one with an issue with Daly while other dudes also had an issue with Isiah
@@pmillhooper1 A lot of people also forget how Isiah publicly reacted to Magic's HIV positive test. Granted, it was a time when few people truly understood what was happening; but Isiah perhaps said some of the most ignorant crap about Magic, when they should have been the best of friends.
I don’t agree man. Some things he says I agree with, but I think there’s a couple points where he loses a rational thought and his personal feelings cloud judgement. Isiah says he went over to grab McCale, and McCale then shook hands. Bill Burr wants to claim that’s not what happened and references the footage. The footage shows Isiah going over to McCale and grabbing him, literally just as Isiah said. But because Burr has a personal dislike of Isiah and the Pistons, he somehow saw something different in the footage and twisted it to fit his narrative.
@@LewisBogue Notice he insisted on going over to grab "McHale" when he WON but when he lost, he wasn't going to get stopped by anyone to shake hands. What Bill probably did not know was that MJ had said the Pistons were "unworthy champions", which is why the Pistons decided to walk off. I get it but all Isiah did was prove MJ right because MJ shook his hand every damn time he lost to Isiah despite them clobbering and cheating the game to win
@@bballstrategy I agree MJ was the bigger man, when he lost he shook hands, even if he didn't respect the opponents, and even if he took a physical beating. Isiah ought to have shaken hands when he lost. The only point I'm making is that I don't agree that Burr is on point entirely with his description. Isiah claims he went to grab McCale as he was walking off and then they shook hands. The footage backs that up entirely. Bill Burr laughs at this and says "that's all you need to know about that man." Yeah of course Isiah went over to grab McCale because he had won, and if he'd lost that game he most likely wouldn't have went over. Just watch the period between 3:00 and 3:30 again. Nothing Isiah says is incorrect, and the footage backs him up. But Burr's version of events and the argument he makes is literally groundless, he's making no argument. He says about Isiah "I thought you said you didn't do that". Literally moments before Isiah claimed that he did do that (that he did go over to McCale). Genuinely I feel Burr's distaste for Isiah and The Pistons has led him to forget all rational thought processes. Everything Burr says corroborates Isiah's version of events, but Burr comes out of it thinking he's proved Isiah wrong. Very strange.
tupark82 If that was the real reason, why then did Joe Dumars, John Sally, and Mark Aguirre shake hands? Isiah has come up with various excuses for why they didn’t shake hands. He didn’t bring that up that quote in The Last Dance. When it comes down to it, he didn’t shake hands because he was a sore loser. Any other explanation is just an excuse.
@@Lamppostout if team decision was not to shake hands and you are a part of the team you do as your team does, Bill was co captain and he says we will walk out Zeke respected him and agreed
I hope that whenever Bill Burr gets tired of doing stand-up, he takes up sports commentary. He has almost an encyclopedic knowledge of the sports he's interested in. He always has something original to contribute (and usually funny) and he won't pull punches. Of course that last attribute will probably keep him off the networks. Nonetheless, I'd watch him in every game he called, no matter what sport.
no Hypocrisy. Bill obviously is not thinking straight here. Isiah said that the team that was on top did not shake the newly crowned team's hand when they finally won. That is EXACTLY what happens with the Celtics. The Celtics walk-off, Isiah chased down Kevin to shake his hand. Jordan could have chased down Isiah to shake his hand if he wanted.
@@wizdumbbk it was more about Kevin McHale sticking around on the court longer than everyone else to get his last words in. Isiah went out of his way not to shake anybodys hand.
@@Cam-cn2qy 1) Isiah went out of his way to shake McHale's hand not the other way around. Kevin was not going to give him any love. Isiah walked by the bulls bench, he did not run from them, he was 2 feet in front of Jordan. Michael could have grabbed him and extended his hand. 2)the person that went out of their way not to shake hands was Larry Bird, Bird walked off. look for Larry legend and tell me how he is any different than Isiah 3) The truth is they did not like the pistons so they act like they played differently than other teams. they did not. This is why, to this day, the only player Bird has ever said he has a problem with was Bill Laimbeer

lambier may have been crazy but its how he got an edge on more talented players..he got into their heads...say what you will but his mentality is probably the 2nd most important part of that team besides the trio of scoring guards they had who could put up between 16-24 each which no team in history has ever really seen..it was frightening when vinnie would come in and drop 14 in 26 minutes when dumars had 22 and zeke had 26..it was like wtf?

@@budfox2337 Chief has the 2nd most savage moment in the history of the NBA that never gets talked about. The sucker punch on Rudy Tomjanovic is the worst moment ever. The Pacers and Pistons brawl overall might be number one but you have to watch the whole thing.
Because they're the Celtics. The media darlins and probably the most racist modern franchise. They had the refs in their back pockets too. Parish was a serial prostitute enthusiast for what its worth.
Racist ? first NBA team with a black player and first with a black coach. So they had Bird, McHale and Ainge as white starters in the 80’s, that’s probably why you say they are racist.
In Australia in the 90s the NBA was huge, had games on tv, so many great players from that era and the bulls going rank on the league with fast, end to end play made it very watchable. Having the most famous sportsman of all time in his prime helped a tiny bit too. Now, it's like a different game. We get a few free to air games a week, but it just doesn't interest me anymore. Watching the last dance really showed me what we are missing, excellent documentary. Couldn't believe Krause wanted to rebuild after they'd won the second 3peat, hell, after the second championship 96/97 he wanted Jackson gone and to rebuild then. As Jordan said, they had the right to keep going until they lost. They had another one in them at least, maybe two. They could've signed Pippen to decent money for two years after that horrendous long contract he signed, not like they didn't have the money for the second best player in the world. 18 million over 7 years in 91 he signed, just as the league went through the roof. Poor bugger could've signed a 2 year contract with 5 in his favour, he was the 122 highest paid player, when he was clearly number 2 and without him the bulls probably win a title or two, he was so important for that team. Without Krause being a dick imagine they went 5 straight, instead he breaks the team up and they struggle big time. He got lucky getting Jordan and Pippen in the draft, he thought he could do it again because he's so bloody smart. Ha.
Well considering what the pistons were saying about Bird, starting with Rodman but backed by Isaiah that “If Larry was black he’d be just another player,” it’s understandable why they didn’t want to shake Detroit’s hand. In my opinion Isaiah is a real entitled asshole who would say anything or sacrifice anything or anyone to make himself look better.

You deserve each of those 19,000 likes on this video bro
I agree with everything Bill Burr said. Plus, he’s funny as hell. He should be a commentator professionally on an uncensored channel. I would watch . Religiously.
Yep. I agree too. Even what he said about the 84 Celtics was fair. I'm a fan of the Celtics and they were lucky during that finals that they did not lose McHale during that game. However one play does not make a teen's Behavior. The bad boy Pistons should have been football players or goons in hockey.
Why Am I seeing this video for the first time? When the last dance was on I tried to watch every RU-vid video about it. Why almost 3 month later is this video now popping up on my feed! This is awesom
That didn’t actually happen. Michael did say he wasn’t allowed to eat. But Horace Grant went up to Jordan and said. “You can’t take away my food. I decided when I eat and no one else.” Jordan just sat there silent afterwards. Not saying anything to Grant. Jordan’s friends put together the last dance. Jordan had the last say

Jordan also trashed the Detroit fans and the Pistons organization. This was front page news in Detroit before game 4. Bill Burr and others never mention this when they question the teams decision not to shake hands. Jordan knew by that time the Bulls would win since Pistons were older and key players were injured like Thomas. Would anyone shake Jordans hand after being trash talked like that?
@Isiah Thomas so Bird disliked him bc of MJ? Magic too? Barkley? Never mind just peeped your username. Oh the irony, my dude legit has Isiah’s full name as his username lol who’s riding who now...

Unless Magic bitched out on Isaiah because those 2 kissed on the court before the start of the finals... Maybe. Bird, oh yeah he hated Thomas which Innoway I kind of don’t blame him for disrespecting him. Saying only him being white, if he was a black player he would just be another NBA player which is complete bullshit! The whole dream team was up to Jordan everybody knows it! Americans have the ambassador of NBA, he is the one that’s carrying the torch! Scotty might’ve had a cherry on top of saying he didn’t want to play with Thomas but Scotty ain’t no Michael Jordan...
That’s why him and not getting on the dream team was beautiful. The team knew they needed class to represent their country and Isaiah Thomas showed no class
Jordan talked shit about The Pistons for 3 years before that final. Dismissed their 2 Championships out of hand. Pipen cried about them on a daily basis too. Anyway F8ck the NBA All Lives Matter.
Zeke was and is one of the most classiest Nba players ever just see how hard he fought for salaries of lower payed players, for not having back to back to back games, him as a NBAPA president showes you what kind of person he is, while Jordan didnt want to take care of Pippen.
Full disclosure, I have never been a Michael Jordan fan. However, he was the greatest player I have ever seen (outside of maybe Kareem) and his toughness and courage on the court was unquestionable. Many others would have backed down from the physical beating he took from the Pistons. To his eternal credit, he got stronger, came back and wiped them out.
Haha so true. His father was SUPER successful. He admits in the 30 for 30 that he never worried about money. Isiah Thomas ended up buying a house for his mother across the street from Laimbeer's parent's house. But you'd swear by his play and his attitude on the court that he had a tough upbringing
@@canIeaturcarrots BS. There is a significance difference between the white ones and the Black ones. How come whites group everyone together when the percentages favor THEM being crazy, but are quick to individualize other racial groups when it doesn't? Own up to it.

Shinobieyes I’m sure he’s great with fans, goes with the whole wolf in sheep’s clothing... Did you ask him about the 12 million dollar settlement the Knicks had to pay out on his behalf for sexual harassment? The Last Dance has definitely painted him and the Pistons as “bad guys”, but Isiah carried that moniker in to his personal life all by himself. It’s not just Jordan, player’s line up to share stories about Isiah and the piece of shit he was- where there’s smoke there’s fire.
Love it. My whole life as a fan I had a weird odd feeling for Thomas and never figured why or could put it in to words. Well said Bill. Dude is the figuratively and literally the smallest player.
It's about being a man and having respect. 45 years old I grew up in the early 80s 90s I got into many of his fights outside school in the alley parking lots arcades. I want a lot of fights but I also lost a lot of fights and no matter what we always shook hands and I was friends with that person that I fought with for the rest of my life. Respect!!!!
Larry hated the Pistons (especialy Lambeer) they injured him couple of times. If there were tougher rules in the NBA at that time Larry might've been healthier and play longer.
no, he should have been practical and paid someone to shovel gravel in his mom's drive way. the foot injuries were bad, the back injury did him in, completely. not the Pistons.
Not one mention of the Great Dennis Rodman. Also, as you get older, you learn to appreciate those Bad Boy Pistons. I mean, I'm a youngster from LBJ era but watching them Pistons and their unity and will to win at all costs makes my heart warm. They were going to war tho, every fucking night. But on the other hand, look at how fucking skillful Isiah Thomas was.
Check out Isaiah setting up alley oops for Dumars or his sweet fadeaways or no look assists. Jordan didn't even see him coming. Isaiah was a goddamn artist.
Yeah, I liked Bill's take and the editing of the video, but the replies in this particular post get it. I understand way so many people had issues with the Pistons, but IT was so freaking smooth. I'm sure he missed some buckets but I swear I don't recall seeing him miss. You can disagree with things he did but you can't deny he was one of the best to ever do it. Also, true fans know that Lambier and Mahone were the only real sociopaths on that team. Everyone else (even Isiah) was just following their lead. Also that final outro track was fire.
As someone from Michigan WE LOVED THEM. No freebies. Lol. The truth is the NBA was WAY physical back then, Pistons were just MORE physical than anyone else. Charles Oakley was an enforcer when he played with MJ AND Ewing. Rambis with the Lakers. Barkley (my fav) and Mahorn with the Sixers. A LOT if teams did this.
They were wayyyy overrated friend. They happen to come along when magic and bird was on the way down and Jordan coming up. If Scottie wasn't sick game 7 of the ECF they win that series and the pistons win only one championship. Besides rodamn, dumars and Isaiah the rest of the team was complete garbage.
@@ba_2three458 So by the same logic I could say that IF Isiah doesn't get hurt in game 6 of the '88 Finals the Pistons would've 3-Peated or AT LEAST RE-peated IF Scottie doesn't sit out GAME 7 with a migraine. We could ALSO take Jordan's first title away against an even OLDER (and on his way down, your words) Magic Johnson. Pistons were ONLY the 2nd team (at that time) to Repeat (besides the '87 & '88) Lakers since the '68 & '69 Celtics. I would hardly say overrated.
ba_2three haha. Ok, making it to at least the conference finals 6 out of 7 years, with TWO finals championships is a little bit of a stretch to call them “wayyyy overrated”. Obviously, you know nothing.....
I could not agree more about Isiah Thomas and the thugs from his team on the Pistons. I hated them not because they weren't my team. I hated the Pistons because they turned basketball into organized mugging.
Another thing is when the celtics walked off it was at an away game which is common practice back then since fans usually flooded the court for their team when the pistons walked off it was a home game revisionist history by isaiah and everyone else that doesn't take that into account.
So when the Celtics did it to them it was like the passing of the torch, In fact Mchale walked by Isiah and said bring it back to the East, and they shook hands. Celtics kind of knew there dynasty was over, when Pistons did it to the bulls it was the same thing. They knew there run was over.
@@Biggielz nobody knows they passing the torch that's something your looking at in retrospect you never know when you might come back to get a championship like the Lakers and Celtics going at it we know their run was over but there's no way they knew at the time.
