He was a great president, balanced the budget, the family and medical leave act, common sense initiative, cut taxes for low income families, the list goes on and on.
“ He was here on a mission , that was bigger than personal ambitions “ - May Mr Lewis move forward in his journey in peace. His legacy & soul will live4ever ❤️❤️❤️
John Lewis, the civil rights leader and congressman who died on July 17, wrote this essay shortly before his death, to be published upon the day of his funeral 07/30 : Opinion | John Lewis: Together, You Can Redeem the Soul of Our Nation While my time here has now come to an end, I want you to know that in the last days and hours of my life you inspired me. You filled me with hope about the next chapter of the great American story when you used your power to make a difference in our society. Millions of people motivated simply by human compassion laid down the burdens of division. Around the country and the world you set aside race, class, age, language and nationality to demand respect for human dignity. That is why I had to visit Black Lives Matter Plaza in Washington, though I was admitted to the hospital the following day. I just had to see and feel it for myself that, after many years of silent witness, the truth is still marching on. Emmett Till was my George Floyd. He was my Rayshard Brooks, Sandra Bland and Breonna Taylor. He was 14 when he was killed, and I was only 15 years old at the time. I will never ever forget the moment when it became so clear that he could easily have been me. In those days, fear constrained us like an imaginary prison, and troubling thoughts of potential brutality committed for no understandable reason were the bars. Though I was surrounded by two loving parents, plenty of brothers, sisters and cousins, their love could not protect me from the unholy oppression waiting just outside that family circle. Unchecked, unrestrained violence and government-sanctioned terror had the power to turn a simple stroll to the store for some Skittles or an innocent morning jog down a lonesome country road into a nightmare. If we are to survive as one unified nation, we must discover what so readily takes root in our hearts that could rob Mother Emanuel Church in South Carolina of her brightest and best, shoot unwitting concertgoers in Las Vegas and choke to death the hopes and dreams of a gifted violinist like Elijah McClain. Like so many young people today, I was searching for a way out, or some might say a way in, and then I heard the voice of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on an old radio. He was talking about the philosophy and discipline of nonviolence. He said we are all complicit when we tolerate injustice. He said it is not enough to say it will get better by and by. He said each of us has a moral obligation to stand up, speak up and speak out. When you see something that is not right, you must say something. You must do something. Democracy is not a state. It is an act, and each generation must do its part to help build what we called the Beloved Community, a nation and world society at peace with itself. Ordinary people with extraordinary vision can redeem the soul of America by getting in what I call good trouble, necessary trouble. Voting and participating in the democratic process are key. The vote is the most powerful nonviolent change agent you have in a democratic society. You must use it because it is not guaranteed. You can lose it. You must also study and learn the lessons of history because humanity has been involved in this soul-wrenching, existential struggle for a very long time. People on every continent have stood in your shoes, through decades and centuries before you. The truth does not change, and that is why the answers worked out long ago can help you find solutions to the challenges of our time. Continue to build union between movements stretching across the globe because we must put away our willingness to profit from the exploitation of others. Though I may not be here with you, I urge you to answer the highest calling of your heart and stand up for what you truly believe. In my life I have done all I can to demonstrate that the way of peace, the way of love and nonviolence is the more excellent way. Now it is your turn to let freedom ring. When historians pick up their pens to write the story of the 21st century, let them say that it was your generation who laid down the heavy burdens of hate at last and that peace finally triumphed over violence, aggression and war. So I say to you, walk with the wind, brothers and sisters, and let the spirit of peace and the power of everlasting love be your guide. It was good to see so many come out to honor Rep. Lewis. Even Prez. Bush's brief remarks were very nice. Of course, Pres. Obama, being the remarkable orator that he is, gave an equally remarkable eulogy. I just wish Pres. Carter could have been there, but I imagine his health would not allow it. He has always been such a strong person; I hope he is hanging in there, regaining at least a reasonable amount of health.
I haven’t found any news on Carter being in poor health. I know he fell down a couple times over the last year or two, but otherwise seemed to be doing pretty good. He said he and his wife aren’t traveling these days, I imagine that has something to do with the pandemic.
@@Ethan.s.. oh, that's good to know! I worry because he is in his 90s, and has had some falls and past health issues. I am glad if he and his good wife are in reasonable shape; they're both good people.
@Christopher Agan the depths of your depravity aren’t welcome here. Go to 4chan or Qanon or Breitbart with that noise. I’m sure you’ll find a cacophony of boot licking sycophants to chime in there. Bye-don 2020

Thank you Sir for your wonderful speech honoring an American Hero. I used to be a Republican and because of you I changed parties. You are one of my heroes
I liked toward the end when Clinton was saying about IF could do just one thing--he would infect every single American with whatever it was that John Lewis got as a four year old kid and kept moving..... That was really really special! Made me tear up, to think for a second, of a nation of people like that.
Yeah what a great guy, I suppose you haven't heard the news. Which we've known for ages, but close minded people like you are too ignorant to even question or do a little digging 😂. But great guy, he also made me tear 😂🐑😴🐏
The former President were at this service to eulogize a great man & even Greater American. This day & this service was meant to Celebrate the Life of John Lewis. Is it that hard to leave the negativity about these former Presidents to the side for this dignified gentlemen’s funeral ? How disgraceful has people’s behavior become?
@Marc, in your eyes that’s how you feel. Do you have the same sentiment for the one in the WH too? By the way this is about John Lewis and his legacy....stay on topic.
Respect for all the Arkancides, the drug running, pardoning terrorists, lying about all his affairs or using the Clinton "foundation" as his & Hillary's personal piggy bank?

No, he was referencing being proud of having hair. Since he cannot grow an afro, saying he would have also worn one would not have made sense and would have been offensive.
I have met Bill Clinton in two committee meetings. The man is brilliant and intently listens to what people have to say. He acknowledges everyone with information in those meeting.
Yo- Why did he throw salt on Stokely’s name like that? That was unnecessary. This guy- I swear. Is the opposite of the same Trump Coin. Dude just knows the value of smooth talk. Works with Blacks, almost as well as it does on Women.
You’re talking about a child molesting Bill Clinton? I’m wondering why the FBI didn’t bust the doors down and arrest Clinton and arrested Obama to help hide and cover for Bill!
Bill is not aging well. His decisions and lifestyle has taken its toll. That said,I think it is great that him and the other former presidents are here and speaking.Rest in peace,Mr. Lewis.
Trump is the one who was charged by a 13 year old girl with rape. You should be more careful about flinging charges like that in defense of someone like trump!
I sit here with tears in my eyes listening to the story of mister Lewis. The suffering that he and his people had went through all those years ago. We have lost so many great people over the last three years, and knowing that what they did in their lives all people had benefited from. I look at today and what is going on in our country and it brings me great despair.....they fought so hard to get us to a better place, and now, we have lost those long fought for years. The new generation coming up will need to take the torch and carry on where we left off. Freedom is never free.....it's fought for....so that ALL OF GOD'S CHILDREN could enjoy the fruits of that strife. Thank you Mister Lewis, for everything you have given to your county.
Love your words. Thank you for sharing your heart and mind. Much love and goodness will rise from the ashes of our current despair. Darkness has the power to infect and spread fear for a while, but the light switch is always there once found and flipped on. That's when the roaches scurry back into the cracks. We shall overcome this dark moment. All my love and thank you again😘❤🙏
I totally thought he was going to open with “my fellow Americans I did not fly on my good friend Jeff’s plane 26 times like the orange bad man claims”.
Honor becomes mr. Lewis. Good that former pres.Clinton,pres.Bush and pres.Obama pay respect. Sadly i dindt see any one of the Trump famillie there..says a lot how they feel about respect for the people that live in US. Corona is no excuse.
John Lewis did not attend his inauguration ("We have a moral obligation to stand up, and speak out. When you see something that is not right you must say something, you must do something" JL) he was on the View 2 years ago.
Presidents Obama, Clinton, Bush and Carter are the best USA has ever produced and elected into its highest office. The speeches today are reflective of their greatness. It is quite understandable President Carter could not attend because of poor health but he did write and send a letter. The passing away of Senator Lewis will be long remembered. He belonged to a period in time that will never come again.
I beg to differ on Clinton. The guy and his "wife" have done more to destroy our Country than any other. Soon to come are the documents that will show the world what kind of a "man" Clinton is.
Bush initiated an illegal conflict that destabilised an entire region to this day and also started a mass surveillance program on his own people, and Obama pretty much continued this pattern by failing to address these issues, whilst also assisting in several more illegal wars and not doing many of the things he promised to do once he got into office (ie. close Guantanamo Bay). Yeah, really reflective of the US’ “greatness”
You know a lot of comments that are hateful just goes to show what this country is about. I didn't think a eulogy to a wonderful man was the time to show your hatred, but our country has become this.
Donna Johnson Maybe you can ask President Obummer that . Worth 85 million now , has a 15 million dollar mansion in Martha’s Vineyard protected by tax paid fully armed Secret Service and this virtue signaler was raised by a white professional mother and white grandparents while Daddy F off to Kenya . Meanwhile back in Chicago the murder rate is skyrocketing among the inner city fatherless black youth and Obummer is saying ‘ y’all ‘ . Isn’t he from Hawaii then carpetbagged to Chicago. Huh? He sure lines his pockets and meanwhile the hood is crumbling Goodness grief - no wonder the po folk are naive! 🙄👎 He turned the funeral into a polemic on Trump. And how having id’s and drivers licenses is racist ? Or illegal aliens prohibited from voting is racist ? Are you a moron !
"I know this is a celebration of John’s life. There are some who might say we shouldn’t dwell on such things. But that’s why I’m talking about it. John Lewis devoted his time on this Earth fighting the very attacks on democracy and what’s best in America that we’re seeing circulate right now. He knew that every single one of us has a God-given power and that the faith of this democracy depends on how we use it. That democracy isn’t automatic. It has to be nurtured. It has to be tended to. We have to work at it. It’s hard. And so he knew that it depends on whether we summoned a measure, just a measure of John’s moral courage, to question what’s right and what’s wrong. And call things as they are. He said that as long as he had a breath in his body, he would do everything he could to preserve this democracy, and as long as we have breath in our bodies, we had to continue his cause." President Barack Obama eulogy for John Lewis

@@jordanabeaulieu2530 It's interesting to me. Have you ever noticed that in general Republicans seem to always be pissed off? They generally have a scowl on their face, act like they've been wronged and are on the verge of a fight. When is the last time we saw a Republican give a warm speech about love and commitment and generosity? Take a look at any picture of Matt Gaetz for example. he always looks pissed off. What a horrible way to live a life! They would be well served to take the advice of John Lewis and use an open hand (an heart) as opposed to a closed fist.
And promoting Dr. Stella Immanuel crazy talks cure to Covid 19. Hinting to postpone the election. talking about Dr. Fauci. Always loved John Lewis and Bill Clinton. Today was a reminder that our Country can Absolutely do Better than what we are experiencing from the WH and the RePutincans. May Civility return to the United States.
I voted Obama twice, but spoke more platitudes than actually changing things and reforming things for the better. Enough with the cheerleading Platitudes and flowery speeches. Grow Up! And you wonder why systematic racism exists so thoroughly.
No one will ever speak so intelligently or truthful for Trump's funeral, as those that have done for John Lewis. Bless you John, heaven is awaiting you.
Google global truth project and read 'The Present' for the truth about life/death explained simply. Everyone needs to read it asap b/c it can change the world.
Speaks well. This speech displays profound respect for the life of a person dedicated to ideals. This is a worthwhile life. Former President Clinton has comforted John Lewis's relatives and those who loved this man.
too far towards stokely??? you using a slavename that he discarded and took his true name of kwame! maybe if black people had followed lock step with kwame ture they would have been better off now.
@R Ma not sure where I stated my fav prez…..stay in your lane. trump and Clinton are so alike...but id take stormy over the intern...and which first lady is hotter....Hillary ??,,,,,btw...where was Hillary yesterday....she wasn't a big fan of j lewis after he endorsed Obama …..
@R Ma-And how would you know that 'Slick Willy' didn't pay women he was with? During his last term of presidency, he seduced 19 yr old Monica in tbe Oval Ofc. And he got impeached. What an embarrassment to the United States. At least Trump had the sense to have his affair while not serving in the Whitehouse. This alone tells the difference between these 2 men. Bill Clinton is a stupid idiot who lost control & seduced his 19 yr old intern lover in the Whitehouse while he was POTUS. Trump carried on his affair with Stormy long before he ever became POTUS. Trump-2020!!!!
I don’t condemn Kwame Ture’s methods. There’s always more than one approach given any situation. Giving all due respect to non-violent tactics and those who practiced them, we continue to fight and struggle as some of the gains we believed we made have and are being lost. Exhibit A:voting rights. I say all that to say, I didn’t appreciate Clinton’s remark about Kwame Ture better know to most as Stockely Carmichael.
The person in charge really gave him a peaceful come back . #JohnLouis was the Diamond that came out shining to be remembered forever. Real authentic freedom fighters that rode in the back of the bus, experience that no one that can take away from them. The children of that generation. Should always be the candidates for office. Originals are the ones that should be running for office, it’s in their true calling.. no others, it is the heritage of true freedom fighters. That will have the highest good 🇺🇸for all. This was the same church where Dr. King used to go to but the Almighty Creator saved him and took him before the age of 41, the age of responsibility therefore, he did not fall into Idol Worshiping a fake name Jesus which, you would never find this man-made name in the original Bible in Aramaic language nor in the Arabic Quran. That was why the Almighty Creator kicked out all of those 4200 fake and false religions all over the world from their places of Idol Worship by this pandemic because of their illegitimate religious practices. The man you are praising did not make it at the Almighty Creator because, he nullified all of his works by falling into Idol Worship which is the only unforgivable sin. That was a sad news.
