Former Steelers Head Coach and Super Bowl Champion Bill Cowher joins Colin Cowherd to discuss whether or not he misses coaching, if he thinks he'd be as successful with the Steelers today, how he managed to balance being tough and being liked, why he had to play "good cop/bad cop" with Ben Roethlisberger, the biggest difference between NFL coaching and college coaching, how the Packers should handle Aaron Rodgers, what Tim Tebow has to do to succeed in Jacksonville, why he'd have a tough time adjusting to today's NFL, and his long friendship with Bill Belichick.

Coach Cowher lived the Pittsburgh dream of everyone from our generation who grew up in Western PA.

The Steelers have had 3 coaches and 9 losing seasons in the last 52 seasons. Let that sink in.

Coach cowher was the best, I remember when they brought him in as the new coach, what a time in football, the league was big, bad, brutal, and bill was the right coach for the right team at the right time.. wish it could have gone on a bit longer..

When u look at the QBs he had before Ben he did a really good job. I have to admit Bill Cowher is a much better HC than I gave credit for

He’s definitely better than Tomlin. His success with the QB’s he had against what Tomlin had is not even close. Not to mention Bill built that team that Tomlin won a SB and went to another with. Bill has a better playoff record and more appearances.

I love Cowher!!! Tomlin also! But I always have to check people when they put them in the same category cause the #s similar! That shit is like comparing Lebron to Jordan, it ain't even close!!! Cowher brought that consistent winning back!! + he had to deal with Coughlin, Billick, Belichic, and Fisher in the division!! While tomlin only had to really deal with Harbaugh his whole tender!! And a whole lot of hall of famers coming out Cowhers tree!!! Worse qb he loss to in the afc ship was Stan Humphries, who's 2 times better than Tebo an Bortles!! Just statein facts, love them both!!💪🏽💪🏽

A very good head coach , a shining beacon for the Steelers organizatiion . Happy he has gotten his just deserved flowers while he can observe them. How ever he wasn't a great coach ,his Hof nomination was essentially based upon the participation trophy era we exists in that rewards anyone who accomplished a significant goal once ,who has the sponsorship ,power brokers ,and sympathetic storyline to arouse purely emotional support not objective , pragmatic observation . Great coaches capture multiple championships ,at minimum as losers they are participants multiple times inthe championship ,Bud Grant ,Dan Reeves ,Marv Levy . Cowher was a notch below great which was originally the only criteria for Hof induction ,as liberal feminism captured the spirit of our society , accountability was replaced in exchange for simply allow emotion manifest decision making . I'm a 40 plus year Steelers fan ,but I'm objective ,Cowher nor the late John Madden aren't Hof esque according to the mandate of greatness being the headline for inclusion inthe Hof which has coincidentally lost lots of it's former luster ,it's magnetic appeal because it is now being cluttered with " very good" nominee's , rather then "great " inductees . It took Tom Flores a 2 time SB winning coach decades to finally get nominated ,Mike Shanahan another 2 time SB winning coach ,who achieved the rare feat of leading his team to a repeat championship hasn't received his gold jacket yet . The once cristal clear waters have now become murky in regards to what constitutes a hofer ,which actually devalues the legacy of those individuals who are recent winners in getting club membership who aren't Hof worth .Members who are authentic Hof worthy have voiced displeasure at the recent trend of events ,and rightfully so , there is a definitive difference between very and great . Bill Cowher was a " very good" head coach ,his very good coaching accumen , persona ,his home grown Yinzer grit ,was the primary ingredient the Steelers desperately needed to recapture nfl relevance , he should be acknowledged ,and congratulated for that ,but he's not on par with the Weeb Ewbanks ,George Halas,Hank Steam ,Curly Lambeau ,Tom Landry ,Don Shula, Bill Parcels ,Joe Gibbs ,and of course his predecessor Chuck Noll . 1afl/nfl/ SB Championship dosent merit being great ., exception again being getting to multiple chsmpionship games despite losing if the coach also was a consistent winner through out his career Grant,Levy,Reeves . Heck Tom Coughlin has 2 SB Championships ,led a Jaguars team.to a conference championship game appearance who were just a few years removed from expansion and he's not inthe Hof . Again ,it's not about earned credentials anymore ,it's about other irrational content that has become the ingredients that get " very good" folks into the Hof while the actual "greats" have to suffer because they're not popular enough, made some folks mad who have a pronounced say so inthe nominations, aren't loud enough ,etc . I truly respect Bill Cowher as a man and a coach ,he was a pleasure to observe doing his skill , nevertheless he wasn't "great " being " very good" isn't a sin ,many coaches past and present wished they could adorn that title ,even some coaches who only captured 1 SB Championship like John Gruden ,Brian Billick ,Barry Switzer ,who weren't " very good" for a length of time ,just " good ".

He was great when you consider the success he managed to consistently coach the team to winning seasons and championship games despite some of the worst QB play. He gets a good QB and they win the Superbowl in the second year with that. If he had stuck around I can almost guarantee Ben has 1 or 2 more championships than the 2 he ended up with

Bill is way better than Tomlin and completely messed up retiring when he did. He finally got his franchise QB and stacked team and he retired. Still has more playoff success than Tomlin when Bill had QB’s like Neil O’Donald, Mike Tomsac, Kordell Stewart, Tommy Maddox. Tomlin took over a young franchise future HOF QB and a SB stacked roster every year up until 2 years ago. Even then he had one of the most expensive defenses in the league.

He retired too soon. He should have won a few more SBs and left shithead tomlin a crappy team to build on his own
