I’m pretty sure the palette holder rods are engineered to hold a weight and size of box reflecting the footprint provided. The companion folding box you are using I don’t think is optimal.
@fogsmart, this is an astute comment, thank you. The palette holder can support a lot of weight as long as it's over the rods and not cantilevered to the sides or front. I did send Bill a replacement for the busted one with the hope it would be used to support a smaller palette box. After this mishap, I included a graphic on my website that shows how not to overextend the boundaries of the rods and recommended the use of a Masterson palette box.
@@eddie39 ours just arrived in the mail and my spouse and I are designing a custom lightweight palette box downsized from the usual dimensions of a French Companion. Thank you for adding the graphic to your excellent website, I will definitely look at the suggested parameters before turning on the shop equipment. My wife is a member of two large plein air painting groups and I’m sure will be asked about her new well engineered LederEasel.
