CNN’s Jake Tapper speaks with Bill Maher about the comedian’s predictions for the 2024 presidential field. Maher’s show, “Real Time with Bill Maher” airs on HBO, which, like CNN, is owned by Warner Bros. Discovery.
Most people wake up in the morning not being ultra-liberal or ultra-conservative. They just want a good job, a safe town, a good school for their kids, and a bit of hope for the future. Politicians seem to miss all that.
But some of us want distinguishment and respect as well. You won't get respect if you disrespect yourself. It's sad that some states and a bunch of overachieving kids with two parents are making it seem like struggling in school is bad. School is supposed to be hard.
Well, of course they missed that they are corporate stooges. If they wanted what was best for the people they would be socialists because only Socialism and communism have a proven track record of improving the quality of life of working class people
Spoken like someone who already has those things. It's not just about you, your town, and your kids. It's about making this country a better place for everyone, including the environment. Making it about "me and mine" is exactly why this country, and world, is so messed up in the first place. We don't need anymore squishy, self absorbed, low stakes moderates. We need people who care about others, not just themselves.
@@WrathKing47 Poll after poll shows about 80% of the population favors term limits, across the board, all states, red, blue, purple. all of them. But Congress won't even vote on it. Why? because term limits are a threat to their power, perks, and privilege.
Term limits are yet another "easy" answer. They would theoretically help, but ultimately the entrenched lifelong worker bees on Capitol Hill, and the lobbyists, and the MIC, and the CIA and FBI, are who run the US and decide which policies get enacted. None of those constituencies are elected. No easy answers.
We live in a world where it is considered a weakness to work together. If you want to sit down and truly negotiate with the people on the other side of the table, you will be labeled a traitor.
You are talking pre-2000 era politics. That ship sailed long ago. Bush and his stolen election (thanks to his brother as governor in Florida and its dirty politics and the right wing Supreme Court picking the president) had destroyed the art of political gamesmanship of "gentlemanly negotiation." Then Trump came along and obliterated what was left entirely. When authoritarianism and fascism enter the game, you cannot play by normal rules. Recall that pre-WW2, many countries tried to "negotiate" with Hitler too. How did that go for them? Easy question if you know anything about history.
Corporate America has been turned into this as well. _Everything_ is now competition. May the most ruthless, vicious, amoral win. Like that is somehow progress.
@@PhilAndersonOutside I agree entirely. The US is a corporatocracy. Accountability and meritocracy has been devalued. If I had to predict the future I would lean in the direction of no unions and everyone will be an at-will employee, and then self-employed. All in the name of winner-take-all competition.
@@PhilAndersonOutside The media does their part to continuously fan the division flames, and they're doing it just to survive as less and less eyeballs are on their product, though most of it has now become just propaganda instead of news !
He was spot on about the 4 seperate parties. There really is no "middle" or "moderate" anymore. You have to be extreme and a showman to get re-elected. I would say, set term limits absolutely. That way the extremism and showmanship will dwindle so they can focus on doing their job instead of keeping their job.
That won't stop the extremism. That comes from the primary process and polarization. In the primaries, only a small fraction of dedicated voters show up, so the more ideological candidate typically wins.

A friend of mine lives in Florida. He's right. Some "liberal" media stations were finding sound bites that made it look like DeSantis was banning masks and vaccines, but it wasn't like that at all.

WE are a cult hahahahaha Trump supporters who are made up of working class, military and veterans, pretty much the whole country actually look at the map the only places democrats get support from is from inner cities which makes no sense they vote blindly the democrats have done nothing for the inner cities no major changes only getting worse...Trump worked with Steve Harvey, Jim Brown, Floyd Mayweather, Ray Lewis, Shaq and lots of others to assist them with change..
They vote for the party. Having issue with one’s free right, to vote with who they want to vote for, is your problem. You can vote for Biden, I just feel sorry for people that think our daily lifes, inflation, and cost of living, is something the world needs again. 🙄
A lot of them want DeSantis to further prove himself and finish his governor term before ultimately running the country. All my Florida family thinks he'll be an automatic 2028 winner. But, my family does want Trump to finally get his payback first. Desantis' term will end Jan 5 of 2027, so if he announces his run on that date he'll have about 22 months to campaign, perfect timing really. The way I see it he's kind of become the GOP's insurance policy, and he should just stay out of Trump's way so that he won't get shot down by Trump in this election cycle or shot down with Trump if Trump's administration gets torpedoed by the swamp again. I think Trump and DeSantis really need to do this for each other just to absolutely ensure that they have ample time to clean the swamp after Biden is up.
What people dont undesrtand is all the things that are detestable about Trump--The fact that he is an open racist, hypocrite, rapist, and lies with every breathe he breathes--are what makes him popular with his base.
he's just a sorry trump clone and a poor version at that. Everyone always says he did such a great job as governor, wasn't that what he was paid to do. Americans are so used Being sodomized by lying politicians when one does follow the law they think he's a Relative a Jesus.
"If ever", is pretty close to correct. The founders didn't care about the "little guy", they wanted an oligarchy. The mid-1800's and early 1900's had a few, but most were governorships or Mayor's, a few state representatives. Still they never held a majority and most were scattered across party lines (not just the Republicans and the Democrats, but also the Socialist, People's Party, Progressive Party, etc.). Not all of them were driven by the same ideology, but common interests. WW2 and McCarthyism/Red Scare pretty much ended most of that representation, and new factions coalesced. By the '70's and '80's most of the gains made during the New Deal/Trust Busting era was being overturned.

@@Real_Life_Is_More_Important Yes. And on the other side, it's that left liberal assh**e, Jimmie Kimmel. I used to like him, years ago, but once he started being obsessed with trashing Trump and becoming a woke idiot and a Democrat puppet, he started to disgust me. If Trump had dementia and was falling down and forgetting his words and saying nonsense like that sad man Biden, Kimmel would laugh at him all the time. But since Biden is doing it, nope, no comment. And another example, before Biden, every time there was a school shooting, Kimmel was crying and making speeches that this this has to stop and all that. But when last March there was that school shooting in Nashville and the shooter was a TRANS person...zip. Mum's the word. Nothing. He didn't even mention it. Like it didn't happen. (At least the other left puppet, Stephen Colbert, did mention it, but he didn't make a big deal about it. He would if the shooter was a redneck though.). Total leftist hypocritical garbage. Exactly the opposite of Maher and Morgan, who speak the logical truth, and only that. And it pains the leftists. Because they make sense.
The problem is most younger voters that affiliate more as an “old school” Democrat or Republican are registering as Independents. The moderates have less votes in the primaries so the candidates have gotten more extreme.
I realize this interview was 6 months ago, but if he looked at the recent GOP polling the comments about Desantis being a reasonable alternative and providing competition for Trump are ignorant. Trump is polling close to 60% in the GOP. He will be the nominee. The majority of Americans are against extremism from either party. DUH.
I don't understand Bill, I am a independent, I vote for whoever makes my life better. But yet, no media outlet will actually tell the truth anymore. To say that we have a true shadow government running the country today. With horrific plans for our future is a understatement.
As an independent thinking Republican, I agree. I want DeSantis to win but also work together with Democrats so both party centrists can work together and shake off the extremists
I always just ignored him, but I randomly started listening to his podcast, Club Random, and he has grown on me a little bit. I'm sure that I don't agree with him on a lot, but his points at least make sense a lot of times.
Yep. Balance must be restored. Get control of your self and your mind. Transcend this grade school madness we've all become. Back to reasoned discourse. One day at a time, turn one thought of hate into love, and one thought anger into compassion. Seek understanding instead of trying to win arguements. Turn argument into reasoned discourse. Study how to debate and communicate again. Start by doing that for yourself first. The rest will fall into place. We must reunite within our shared humanity, instead of our differences. Else, we continue toward more war.
Bill has yet to address the 'pornography' in some K-12 school libraries. I'm a moderate like Bill, old school Liberal. I've done the research and found some of these books and it does NOT matter it is only two or three, they are there. I find it ironic that passages that describe (and in some cases with draw pictures) giving a blow job between two bio-females wearing strap-ons as gay men....that the exact same passage between a cis-female and a cis-male 10 years ago would have been BLASTED by the Left and yet another example of men sexualizing women.
Totally agree on Trump winning the Republican nomination. He is going to win 30-40% in every state while everyone else running splits the vote. They will have to decide amongst themselves who is going to be the only one running against him in order for it not to be him which won't happen, or it will happen entirely too late as everyone wants to try to win their own state as if that proves something.
Trump is still the best choice for President. Biden is clearly the worst and Kamala is a joke that's never going to happen. DeSantis doesn't need to rush and can simply take over after Trump and have a much easier time. Get over it people. Trump was hated because of mass media bias and a lot of Hillary worshipping feminists and Woke morons pushing lies and propaganda about him that all proved to be false. Trump ran America great during his 4 years despite more opposition than any other President has had to deal with in generations. He'd be light years better than Biden at the very least when you look at how terrible Biden and the Democrats have done while in power. The President is not your friend, he's not your daddy, he's a man with a job to pass the right laws and protect our nation. Enjoy Trump's policies that help all Americans live better and put our nation first and don't watch him on TV or look at his online posts if you hate him so much. Basically just get a life and reap the rewards of having an America first President with good policies for once. MAGA!
your problem is your buying the kool aid of the MSM and bill maher, Trump is very popular among republicans, his followers are not just fringe groups, he is also popular among moderate democrats, the ones who don't like drag shows for kids. They r in war against regular people who don't conform to their ideals, climate change, GPTQ+, illegal immigration---, wokes are vindictive, cancel regular folks to the point of targeting their employment and livelihood, religion, as if people don't have a right to their believes, or to being stupid!! Maga people don't threaten others, it's the woke left that is killing american democracy and driving this country into chaos.. maybe that's why they are pushing trump and the demented biden, they want a showdown!
I think most of those other people will drop out long before the actual primary vote. It's not like any of them have even a remote chance. Republicans who want to win will back DeSantis. Voting for Trump in the primary is voting for four more years of Biden/Harris because there's no way Trump gets enough of the independent vote to win.
Disagree, I mean, there are clips of him from 15 years ago speaking truth to power and confronting them, and now he simps to Elon Musk. Bill has absolutely changed, and not for the better.
Wrong! He has changed his tune. And you can mark it after he let the n-word slip on air a few years back. After he had to apologize for that, he began to cool on the Left. Now he’s practically MAGA, without the red hat.
Oh, he's definitely changed his tune. It's refreshing to hear him calling out cancel culture, not so refreshing when he throws guys like Bernie under the bus.

I'm a republican (somewhere in the middle), but regardless of how Bill can rile me up, I always have no realistic issue with his logic. When you are right, you are right. Bill Maher falls into that category of someone who has the ability to lead, but not the desire. I think he does not run for public office because he TRULY understands how ugly it can get, no matter how good he could be.
Really people think Bill is authentic? I feel sorry if you think this guy has any insight about anything. I watched him one or twice and find him to be a simpleton. Whether he's pandering to the left or right it is always the same. A snide comment, a pause, to allow people to understand his ''brilliance". I think he is bad when he attacks the right and he is bad when he attacks the left. All he does is work in a few current memes to a talk and he thinks he is brilliant. He is boring and wrong when he attacks the right or left.
So weird hearing Bill talk about how being in Florida was like a breath of fresh air, when it was a huge DEM issue about closing everything down during covid. You were guilty if you walked across the street alone with a mask on. You were costing lives if you didn't wear a mask on driving in your car alone.... Now, it's totally okay to admit this on TV.
Trump is difficult to like. His attraction is that he has good instincts about what to do and when to do it. For me, I can put up with some side-show for a guy who can get the job done, and Trump does get the job done.
I couldn't agree more. Like with DeSantis, Maher can also be a performance artist appealing to his base. But when he's not doing that, he's a very intelligent man.
