The infamous 1959 Corvette Stingray Racer concept car was one of Bill Mitchell's first toys. He also had the Corvette Mako Shark, Corvette Manta Ray, and many others.

According to GM's Design VP, Ed Welburn, its NOT a concept car, it was built as a race car!

Correct, as it was intended purely for competition, but the now long defunct American Auto Manufacturers Association prohibited factory supported entries into any kind of racing venue at the time, which is a shame. However nowadays said buzzkill agency no longer exists which means auto makers can compete all they want to no holds barred.
