Bill Thurston talks at Harvard in 2001, as the last talk of a term-long seminar on Thurston's geometrization theorem for Haken manifolds, organized by Danny Calegari and Nathan Dunfield. Bill discusses some of the history and ideas behind the formulation, proof and exposition of his theorem, and also speculates about how the full geometrization conjecture might be proved (this was more than a year before Perelman's announcement of his proof of the conjecture).
