Thanks, I just completed my table build. I followed your method of cloth installation pretty much exactly as per your video. It worked out perfectly. Thanks again.

This is by far the best instructional video to do your table, I did this today and it worked like a charm! I’ve watched other videos watching people go around and actually stapling the felt and this is by far the best and the least confusing.

It's not felt, but it is, as you in the video, fabric. It's always made from some form of wool, often worsted, and with an acrylic or other tyoe of material added for strength and stretch. Stop calling it "felt".

This is true, I am installing a cloth (woven not pressed) fabric. However, search "clothing a table" vs "felting a table" and the obvious becomes.... well, "obvious".

How did you arrive at 40mm stretch? Great video!

Thank you. I actually watched many pros do the task of stretching and I measured it to come up with a reference point. You cannot suggest how it should "feel" especially when it feels that you think you are about to rip it....lol As I say in the vids it is not an absolute, if you cannot get it to go that far just be consistent as possible using the line as a reference. Realize that if you do not stretch enough the felt will get loose as it gets comfortable with its fibers relaxing. Little secret for you if you have a glue down. You cannot un-staple and re-stretch so if it relaxes too much and gets some wrinkles (usually by the center pockets), get it wet with a sponge or spray bottle of water about a foot around the wrinkle and it will shrink some.

Tremendous help. Thank you. On My table the cloth staples horizontally(stays flat across) and does not wrap over the edge of the slate. Any tips or pointers on this type of operation? Thanks again

just because your old felt was not wrapped around, does not mean that you need to replicate it.

@@darringraviet1 I recently swapped out tables for this one. It has 1 piece slate instead if the 3 pc. I had to install new cloth but I did not have the option to staple around the edge because there is no slate backer board. The slate droppes into the table and sits flush with the surrounding chip board that cloth gets stapled to. I managed to get it done. Only problem I had was stretch marks here and there because the staples and no slate edge to help spread out the tension. Thank you for responding.

@@westonfairris8724 by stretch marks,I assume you mean you can tell where the felt is stapled because the felt pattern (weave) gives the allusion of a ripple in the felt. you can relieve some of this by using more staples to even out the weave . be sure to pull the felt between the staples. some of this will go away as the felt loosens up with play.

Well those measurements work with a Teflon cloth?
@darringraviet1
@darringraviet1 Год назад
I am not sure. you can mark the felt and make a test pull. clamp from stretch point 1 to 2 and pull to the line. Is it too hard or too easy, adjust accordingly on all measurements.. It should take some strength to make the pull, but not all your body is capable of, to get their. Otherwise all the later pulls will be too difficult as most of the stretch has been taken out in the first few areas of the table.

Euhm, 40 + 40 mm in my book is 80mm you'll be stretching it in the width of the table. Your science is wrong.

only 40mm stretch in the width. Watch the first part of the video, for the first long side the offset is 0mm offset
