Imagine being in your 50s and taking your daughter to see Billie Eilish and then you go on stage and play a song with her (I know one of his daughters is a huge Billie Eilish fan)
@@kastapostgard5306 I mean, of course. They are still an all-time great band and I still vastly prefer them personally, but think about it, do you more frequently hear Foo Fighters songs or Nirvana songs in day to day life? What about young people, which are they more familiar with?
He matched Billie's style of singing, which is much softer, almost whispered like ASMR relaxing videos, when Dave's used to sing screaming his lungs out. If they didn't have individual mics, let's say they're singing in a Operah theater/hall, with just room mics, we would probably be hearing just Dave, but not Billie's voice at all (I'm not criticizing her, those are just different styles) LOL That just goes to show Dave's experience as a musician to just "feel the room", after so many years.
As a 55 year old dude being there when Nirvana broke in 1991 and seeing the demise, the rebirth, the evolution of Foo Fighters paired with the perseverance of Dave Grohl as a legit musician, it's SO AWESOME to see him bridge the gap with current art as he duets with Billie. What a treat. If only to be in the audience.....MISS YOU TAYLOR HAWKINS!
It’s a weird feeling right? Feels like a hundred years. I remember seeing Nirvana live in a little club in Melbourne Australia in 92 with maybe like 2000 people and just being blown away by Dave up the back. And now he’s up doing this with one of the great modern stars.
After Taylor's passing, it is almost impossible not to go in tears when listening to this song. It's unbelievable how passionate is Dave; he could sing in front of millions, or 3 people, with an acoustic or electric; he always gives 100%. We're enjoying one of the GOATs of Rock And Roll.
Agree. He is such a complete musician. Love that he is an admirer of Rush as well and was the one to induct them into the R&R HoF. They lost Neil Peart, he lost Taylor (and before that Kurt) and they continue on making great music.
@@shtroiznAssaf yes, I thought that after Taylor's, it could be no more FF or Dave Grohl as well, but fortunately they found the way to celebrate life, smth that we should do with ours: being happy remembering great times and going ahead because it's not the end.
He’s a really bad ass too late to deal with what he dealt with not being hard-core on drugs you’re fucking flipped out and still be making beautiful music he’s bugging bad ass rock ‘n’ roll badass legend let me rephrase that LEGEND
As someone who grew up listening to Nirvana & Foo Fighters (and still do listen to them) and has become a Billie fan over the past 4 years - this is so awesome to see.
I found I liked Billie's music before my teenage daughter even told me she liked her yet. We thought that was so strange, and then we went to see her live in Kentucky. By far one of the best shows I've witnessed, and I'm a dad with a Slipknot tattoo and one of my best shows was Manson, Slayer at Mayhem Festival 2009. Never giving 2 fuc** what anyone thinks. Never did and never will care who judges me.🤘I'm a huge fan of Billie's music.
In 2018 I saw Billie perform for a small radio concert show in a small LA venue. David Grohl was about 30ft in front of me with his daughter at that same concert. After seeing this it all comes full circle.
That’s one thing I’ve always liked about Dave, he always enjoys concerts as a regular fan when you know he could easily be backstage or in the super-mega VIP seats to any show ever.
YES! He mentioned that show somewhere the next day and her name stuck with me. Not long after, she totally blew up. I first heard about Billie through Dave so this is amazing
The only thing that could’ve made this better is his daughter joining them on stage. Dave is about as epic as it gets. Flawed like all of us, yet he stands in the storm and pushes through. Truly one of my all time favorites and everything the man has written, performed and those he’s worked with, incredible.
This is truly so good. People who arent musicians love to hate on Billie, but the biggest names in rock love her for a reason. One of the most genuine, authentic, singers in many years, with such insanely accurate chops, and she got to this point by simply doing what she thought was cool and not caring about anyone else - which is the epitome of being "rock and roll" and what Grohl has preached for decades. Lets kill the stupid gatekeeping and stereotypes that try to put artists in boxes, and let people share their art across genres and respect each other.
@@kramersilver8331 just because she is someone you dislike doesn’t mean she is fake. You maybe think that her personality conforms to some kind of popular trend but she is literally just being herself. She is so popular that people are emulating her personality, it’s not the other way around.
The fact Dave can go from playing with a bunch of 1980s punkers one day to a modern pop star the next shows just how true of a treasure he is. This was so good, thank you fro sharing.
It's funny to know he doesn't think much of himself as a musician because of how great he is. Personally I don't think knowing scales or chord names or whatever theory is that important, if you can have fun and make music like Dave then that's all you need.
I'm a grown ass man, and I found myself wiping tears from my eyes about halfway through this rendition. Unbelievable talent from both. It's like you can almost feel Kurt singing thru Dave.
I hope those Billie fans realize they are witnessing a rock legend. Dave is the last of a dying breed. I bet everyone became a fan of rock that night (and got chills)
I hope those Foo fans realize they are witnessing the next torch bearer of music who will be carrying Foo's legacy when you've all attained your Nirvana and gone.
Billie has that distinct voice and on how she's able to control and slowly build it up is truly amazing and just leaves u shaking ur head when u realize she's a one in a generation.
I love this collaboration. Dave is an icon but still humble and kind. It's easy to see how touched he was by Billie honoring Taylor. Billie is wildly talented. Just a fantastic duet.
In addition to recognizing Taylor, I love seeing two completely different generations of musicians connecting and appreciating each other. If there has ever been anything that brought people together, regardless of any other political BS, it's been music. I love it and we need more of it. Dave and Billie, love you both. It really touched me to watch this. God bless.
@what about the situation i'm sorry you could only get to the "junkie" part and not the "famous part"... maybe try jumping from the Empire State building while being butt naked, maybe then people will finally recognize your existance
@what about the situation you've achieved nothing in your life. Taylor was a bright light. I am on the rise, over 11m plays now on Spotify - and you're a waster!
Her voice gives me chills everytime Billie Eilish is so dope. I can't stop watching this track again and again. I am sure she will be #1 soon due to 💖a u t h e n t I c v i e w s 💖
I just wanna say that as a full grown man I barely let myself cry, not enough though. And here I am, watching this and crying like a boy and it's so intense and beautiful at the same time. These emotions are so real and the loss of an amazing and loving man and musician are so heartbreaking I just can't help myself.
I think that's beautiful. Honestly. Nothing more moving, beautiful, sexy, cool about seeing a man feel and cry.💜 I lose it seeing me cry. Makes me cry every time because I know it can really be hard for men to express emotions through tears.🥺😢😊💙
This. This is stripped down, raw beauty. DAVE Grohl is so supernatural yet so very human. So much talent. What an amazing life I don't know how he keeps it together for every performance. Rip Taylor. Dave... you are MY hero. Peace ✌ Thank you for posting this. I would have missed this amazing moment😊
I had the pleasure and absolute honour of working on the Taylor Hawkins tribute at Wembley this year, Dave Grohl has and always will be my hero, he is the coolest man I have ever met, such a talented, loving and gracious man. I have the upmost respect for him x x
Dave is following the footsteps of the late Great Dimebag Darrell in being the nicest guy in music with the example Dime set at Ozzfest when the Foos and Pantera were both on the bill
@@jismism9515 we all have skeletons, they come with age and growth, I'd be more worried if he had none! All relationships have ups and downs, it's human nature. I know the Dave Grohl I saw and spoke to is the most awesome guy I'll ever have the pleasure of meeting and nothing will ever change that!
Dave Grohl is a HERO. Smiling and carrying everyone else through the pain of tremendous lossES….Ordinarily amazing. I admire his strength to emanate love and share the pain through song with us all. I would do anything to lift his spirit. 🕊
Theres a show from a couple of years ago where Miley Cyrus got to perform with miss Joan Jett and mr Dave Grohl… She tried TOO hard and ended up embarrassing herself, imo… The difference is quite clear…
That's a baseless opinion, think of how many concert'goers of that age would even know many bands that started in the nineties? Theyre a good fit, theyre doing eachother a service and theyre giving the fans a chance.
@@raymondvaughan6262 😂 here we are again with someone who knows nothing about music, especially soft music and soft singer .. or jazz.. sorry for you btw she can sing and she can play piano, guitar and ukulele, she directs and edits her music videos. she studied every type of dance: tap dance, classic ballet dance, contemporary dance Etc she is a gymnast (aerobics), she is the scenographer of her shows, she is a designer she draw her music videos, her style Etc everything! She even create her own brand everything since she was only 15/16 years old. And you ? What about you? I’m music teacher, composer and I also help emerging artists. You?
Oh man. From someone who was there for this performance, it was so insane and other worldly to experience such a legend on stage. An experience I am so grateful for.
Exactly this! I thought the same. My daughter talks about her and I saw no big deal, but this!!! Oh my gosh she is up there with the biggest artists out there! ❤️
WOW...Dave said that he, his family & the rest of everyone at his house began to cry as she sang that tribute to Taylor at the Grammys, I just started BAWLING in tears at the end of this performance,
Billie Eilish is honestly just a class above all the other artists in her genre, she's so young and so talented, and yet so humble and respectful of the artists that paved the way for her.
She's really not either of those things. She had parents with connections to the music industry. That's pretty much it. I'm sure some braindead dolt would say the same thing about you if your step dad was quincy jones.
Man Billie is talented but Dave has decades of pain and memories behind that song... Nothing will ever replace him. Amazing moment for the both of them, and Billie took a beautiful folk sounding harmony. Great clip dude thank you!
This is SO life-affirming! I love that Dave brought up Billie wearing the Taylor shirt at her Grammy performance. It's SO heartbreaking to hear how the whole FF fam was at Dave's that night to feel that love OPEN the Grammy broadcast. Dave's daughter was a huge Billie fan from early on, and Dave noted that Billie conveys feelings that her audience all relate to....just like what he saw while a young dude in Nirvana. Nirvana's music resonated with me and my peers, and now our children are fans of Billie and Nirvana. Keep going, Dave! You are so loved and appreciated. Thanks for this beautiful duet, Billie!
So one of the many things I love about Grohl is that (nowadays LOL) he's not on some elitist BS where he wouldn't play a song with a Pop star. I 've heard a lot about Eilish, she seems like a cool kid. It's great to just see them together!
Right? Prince, Justin Timberlake, Tom Petty, Lady Gaga, Lorde, Norah Jones. Paul McCartney, Cat Power, The bangles, The Rolling Stone’s, George Michael, Tenacious D, QOTSA, Zac Brown Band, Joan Jett, Kim Gordon, Cage The Elephant, Nine Inch Nails, Rick Astley, Ben Gibbard, THE MUPPETS?!!…. No Pop stars in there, no none at all 😂😂 . Maybe it’s you that’s on the elitist BS.
As a man who is nearly in his 40's who has grown up on Nirvana and the Foos and also with an 8 year old son who worships Billie....this hit me hard. Great performance of a wonderful song. Taylor would have approved!
Thanks for recording and sharing this, I was down on the floor singing every word and bawling my eyes out, Dave Grohl is my hero, and it was a complete shock to see him walk on stage. An unbelievable moment, thanks again.
I am a 45 year old. When I heard this version, I was crying out loud! Both of them are just class acts, laying all out there. Phenomenal! And what a tribute to Taylor! He was such a better version of Dave himself live! A master!!!! Loved it!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
this performance literally had me in tears. The song alone is so beautiful, and has so much meaning because the song is dedicated to Kurt Cobain. its just so beautiful like words cannot describe.
I’m in Dave’s generation and I’m a huge Billie fan. Such a beautiful thing to see them bridging people together through the love of music, or the music of love. ❤
I will never forget how Dave Grohl said on the festival at 11 pm in the evening "the time ran out and we are not allowed to play any longer. but we always finish a concert. so send me the bill"
OMG! This is a real one! Got the goosebumps and everything. You can tell how happy Dave Grohl is to hear his song sung by another generational voice. Also the harmonies 🙌
What a lovely rendition. How good it must feel to be apreciated by new artists. And how good it must feel do be respected and dear to the classics. God bless you all.
Dave Grohl is connected to so many different styles and genres of music. He's been a rockstar for over 3 decades and still reaches out to younger generations of music every chance he gets. You can't not love the guy.
In my 58 years on this planet I have loved music, DG and the Foos, Billie and Finneas top every artist I have ever adored, this brought me to tears, both sad and happy, love you Dave and Billie ❤💚
@@perpetualplatypussy69 you need help ...go to study music or make an appointment with a psychologist if you don't feel anything with Billie's music because you don't have artistic sensibility and if you don't have it you are either ignorant or you are apathetic = a psychopathic
I cried like a little boy listening to this. You never know when it's your last day here on this beautiful planet, so let's appreciate those that we love as they're still here. R.I.P. Taylor and thank you Dave and Billie for this beautiful performance. I really felt that.
I pray for peace and healing for all those who loved Taylor. Especially his family and the Foo family. What a beautiful, emotional, authentic moment. Rest sweet Taylor. 💔
This is wonderful, Dave is one of the good guys, and Billie is a brilliant talent that seems very down to earth amd genuine. The way see moved aside to introduce Grohl was very respectful. This song has all the ways ment alot to me and i loved this.
