She was an awesome athlete and had what it took to make a stand.. I have great respect for her and I remember her match against Riggs and how happy I was that she won...
I saw the match. He missed all types of easy shots that he normally did not.He was a gr3t player in his prime. And my initial reaction was after watching the match I found out he was a hustler.
Do you remember what was going on then for women? A women could not get a credit card without a man to co-sign. TODAY, women still make only a part of what men make. This was and is significant.
I would love to be able to go back in time and know if Robby truly threw this match to pay off debts. Such a fascinating story, regardless of if he even did or didn't.
I can't for the life of me understand why beating a retiree who chainsmoked and drank before the match gets this much praise. I mean jesus the guy was 55. FIFTY FIVE.
This did nothing for the women's movement.. Other then a quick feel good momment.. If you want to give credit to social equality movement for women you should thank capitalism.. Not a tennis match between a over the hill tennis pro and a prime female athlete..
Overall, if it helped the woman’s movement than good, but it’s a shame there is a lot of evidence that shows the match was thrown. I mean the fact that their are no recording of this match is pretty weird
Den y did he challenge her ....did he not know she is 29......she defeated his pride and his women shameing attitude......and not his agely weakness which he thought is better than a 29 year old women.
