One of the biggest hits in Country Music History! This song was No. 1 in the USA in 1975 for many, many weeks! I loved all of her music! She was a huge influence in Country Music Worldwide!
My mom made me call a radio station and request this song once. The deejay asked me how old I was and I told him 13, and he said "And you're calling to request that dirty song?" When he got back on the radio he said my name and then "I don't know about these 13 yr olds anymore!" That was 33 years ago and I still love this song. Thanks, Mom!
My mum and dad . Skint in Blackpool. Hopped on a bus upstairs and found a blanket on the back seat and cuddled. I love their story . Different songs means different meanings..
Such a sweet song! My folks loved each other for 50 years.. shortly before my daddy's passing (and my folks 50th wedding anniversary)... I miss you dearly, Mommy and Daddy. And by the way, they were the BEST parents in the whole wide world! I am soooooo blessed! Thank you God for giving them to me~
We played this at my aunts funeral 2 weeks ago , she lost her husband 8 months prior , I bet they're so happy now . Rest in peace aunt Margo and uncle Noel ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
ust saw her tonight on her 2011 Ladies of Country Tour in the UK, at Tunbridge Wells. Her voice is still huge but there's next to nothing left of the lady herself. She doesn't look too well I'd say, so get to see her while you can. This song made me cry...even more poignant when sung by someone whose blanket days are long behind them...
A #1 hit for Billie Jo Spears on the Country & Western charts. It was the 336th #1 C&W song of the Rock Era. It also hit #2 on the Canadian C&W charts and #6 in the United Kingdom. It would be the only #1 of her career. My cousin had a large C&W record collection and her version of Harper Valley PTA was one of them.
7 years now mum I miss you every hour of the day. I'm so glad I got to share a special day with you when you got to see your favourite singer in real life. Xx
This always was one of my favorite country songs. Her voice makes it come alive with feeling and is so romantic, I melt when I hear it. This is what country is all about. The story.
This song always gets me! I mean in a good way. A song that when you first hear it reaches deep down inside you and just holds you there. Excellent combination of lyrics and music!
The memories . I grew up in the 80's. My sister who was 20 yrs older than me I was born in '67. Between her and a brother that grew up in the 70's. and my Dad that grew up listening to Hank Sr . I got the full meal deal.
A real singer who has real talent. Thanks for posting this. I love this old song too. The way music is today, Billie Jo would never see a recording booth because she isn't 22, with a figure like Barbie, wearing a skirt up to her crotch and five pounds of makeup on her face.
This takes me back to my youth. Nice to hear it again....🎸🎶 Songs you could either sing along too, or dance too. Innocent stuff. Nothing too serious,...great times.. The world has gone mad now
She was so cute and i love her incredible voice, thank you for sharing it wiith us. that smile is wonderful. Why is she not in the hall of fame??????????
Sad to hear she's passed on. She was a graet favourite of mine back in the 70's. Just bought a cd of her hits after getting back listening to her stunning voice on you tube..Fred McLarty
I'm not a fan of country Music in general but I'll make an exception for this wonderful lady! Her voice reaches out to my heart and the lyrics in this song are beautiful!
This was my mums favourite song ever she passed over 5 yrs ago sat here crying i will never get over it im 55 blubbing like a small child i miss her so much this song does remind me of all the good times but dam it really hurts
I played this song to my beloved, after 20yrs, and an ensuing separation, we'd grown tired of each other and apart. Then my brother (her favorite sibling of mine) was killed in a car wreck.(just one week after my father died from a fall in the hospital). I played her the song again. We're STILL hangin-together, and back in good graces. That song (and my Father & brother's death) saved our relationship!
I'm 49 yrs old now & these classics from the 70s are SO GREAT!!! I remember riding around with my dad when I was around 9 yrs old in 1978 in Dothan Alabama in a 1972 Chevy C/10 L.W.B. p/u truck...307 V8...3spd on the column...no a/c...both windows rolled down. We would ride down old country back roads & listen to the country classics of the 70s on his 8-Track. I remember him telling me..."one day I'm gonna give you this truck"...in 1985 when I was 16 I got that old truck & was so PROUD of it. I drove it to high school in 85-86. I really miss that old truck but I miss my dad even more!!!!
I Still Remember, 1973, 74 Era, Our Mom And Dad Would Take Us To Lengeng Lake ( Keshena, Wisconsin.) Mom And Dad Would Always Bring A Blanket. They'd Lay It Underneath This Oak Tree.😥😥💔 Miss You Mom And Dad, Love Lil Man Shawanomitta. Mis You, Marilyn, Cathy, Pete, An My Baby Sister, Liz 💔💔💔💔💔💯❤️
Ahh, If only country music was like this today. A song like this today wouldn't even make it past the front secretary even if she slept with the boss. It is so sad that country music has lost its identity. Thank you for a beautiful reminder from a lovely lady with a great song of how wonderful country music used to be!!
hey dayday, i was there too. i only went to see Lena Martell coz shes been my favourite singer forever. It was a good nights entertainment to see Lena sing One day at a time and Billie Jo sing Blanket on the ground all in one show, eventhough theyve lost the power in their voices i still enjoyed it.
Billy Joe is still touring.I saw her last night in Ballymena ,Northern Ireland in concert with Philomena Begley (25th Feb 2009).Phil is still in great voice but Billy Joe is showing all of her 72 years.
Brings back good memories this my dad used to sing it wen he was drunk, he's been dead for 16 years this year an still remember him singin this like it was yesterday
love this song my friend i used to sing this from the back of the bar down the beer pumps for the customers in the pub we used to work at, many moons ago.
One of the many talented singers ever and Beaumont tx has gave us some of the best in the business and we are very proud of Billie jo spears for her music she gave us and 2022 still listening to the old country music when country was country and what Nashville is doing today ain't country
Me and my brothers used to wake up every Sunday morning with this song blasting out whilst mum and dad made breakfast, memories, lost both in the last two years 2016-2018 happy memories x
