Here’s the issue you run into. If a student is willing and able to go 50k in the hole a year to go to Harvard. Then when a donor decides to cover 50k of tuition for that student, that student is still willing to go 50k in the hole. So now tuition is priced at 100k.

I recall hearing about this on the news a little while back. Awesome donation from that family and those students really lucked out.

I went to school for finance. Left with less than 20k debt on a car I was using to go from work to home as I studied. My job paid 100% for my school. I graduated last December. Point is, you can’t generalize. Age group of the sample is just as relevant as major - and believe me, the shackles of debt we’re putting on our emerging generations is NOT worth the education they’re receiving.

I remember working at UNC Chapel Hil School of Dentistry. Some random guy that didn't attend the school decided to " donate," 25 million to get his name on the school. The dental students did not appreciate having to see this unknown guys name on their degree. No one cares about donors. Donors only care about themselves. Even the billionaire that paid all those students schooling a few years ago at Morehouse; it was found out he owed money and taking care of their tuition was a trick of the wealthy to offset their debts. Crazy! Like Oprah giving away those cars wasn't about people, it was about Oprah offsetting her taxes.
