I saw them perform in October 1974 in San Diego, at the El Cortez Ballroom- still remember how amazing they performed. The Average White Band was the opening Band, and hadn't yet been known.

I was a roadie for the Don Ellis Orchestra in 1972 and 1973. Milcho Leviev was the keyboard player and was a monster then... Don snuck him out of Bulgaria, part of the Soviet Union... They did a tune he wrote called the Bulgarian Bulge! Alternating 33/16 with 36/16 bars! Band was hot. First gig was the Grammies where they were the "house," band. Don won a grammy for his score to the movie the French Connection
I started seeing all of these great musicians performing live in the 1990s when they were in their late 30s / 40s in age. Its nice to see them here when they were I suppose in their early 20s?
