Sorry. As someone who has known Billy Connolly since he worked in the shipyards, he's always been a comedian as well as a first class musician. Black Jake of Norwich.
All Glaswegians, and Scots in general, know about Billy’s music career, especially his being with Gerry Rafferty in the Humblebums, along with Tam Harvey. We love the Big Yin! 🏴🏴🏴
I hate to be that fella but it was him being smart arse with his ganger ( foreman ) and folk finding him hilarious led to his comedy career first off when he worked in port Glasgow but yes he always loved music . He clarified this himself
I'm astonished anyone should say this. The tunnel makes no difference to tuning the 5th string. Have you ever tried a fretless Mountain banjo with friction pegs? I have Cammeyers and Barnes & Mullins ZB's. Never noticed any tuning problems with the 5th string. BJ.@@-BriceW.Alms-
It's almost unfair that one of the funniest people ever to have set foot on this mad planet of ours is also a pretty good (and often seriously underrated) musician.
Billy knows his banjos! Immediately spots that it is a Zither Banjo ( a type that was very popular in Britain from the late 19th Century to the middle 20th Century) and quickly realises that it is a Cammeyer. One of the most highly rated brands, I think it is a Vibrante. Very nice instrument and very nicely played!
I'm so glad somebody else noticed this! I've been lusting after a zither banjo for over a decade now, mostly thanks to Margaret Barrie and Pecker Dunne. Sadly, all the ones you see on eBay (and there are never many) are either in shite condition or priced waaaay beyond my range.
Aye, a legend. For a wee country we have a large share of internationally known talent. 🏴🏴🏴 The Big Yin is the man! Billy was in the Humblebums with Gerry Rafferty, and Tam Harvey. Fellow Glaswegian Frankie Miller called him his best friend. My son worked for him years ago and he was as lovely off stage as he was wonderful on stage.
I was a huge fan of a game called Enemy Territory WW2 game and that was my avatar/logo... There is an American flag there also, why do you people focus on the nazi flag for? I think it reveals more your personality than mine.
Sorry. Must correct you here. Zither-Banjos are rarely, if ever, 6-string banjos. In fact I've never seen one. They are 5-string banjos, which often have 6 tuners for ease of manufacture and appearance. They are not rare. Scores of tens of thousands were made and large numbers are still around. You can buy one for as little as £30. Black Jake of Norwich, one-time good friend of Sir Billy. No, we didn't fall out, just drifted apart. He's the man who made God laugh, and my hero forever!
