Billy stared life as a welder in the Glasgow Shipyards. Played guitar and banjo in folk music bands and morphed into comedy a little later where he was a huge success. He's also done some serious acting. There's a well known film "Mrs Brown" based on a relationship between Queen Victoria and John Brown the game keeper at her estate in Scotland after the death of her husband Prince Albert.

Billy is famous for diverting off topic, but he usually finds his way back! He has said in interviews that he starts his routine with a rough plan, but thoughts and jokes will suddenly come to him, so he follows where they lead him. As a result, none of his shows are exactly alike. He is a master storyteller. His acting career was great too. He has acted with Judy Dench in the period film 'Mrs. Brown', as a gangster in 'Boondock Saints', as a soldier in 'The Last Samurai', as a dwarf leader in 'The Hobbit' etc. etc. etc. Very talented and funny guy before Parkinsons got him.

I like Billy recounting the terrorist attack on a Scottish airport (real event) where the terrorist accidentally set himself on fire and one of the baggage handlers attacked him and kicked him so hard in the nuts he detached his tendon. It's funny as it is true of the Scottish/British character. It's a damn shame about Billy's health and from what has been shown on tv, I don't think there's a huge amount of time left.

Guys, starting to watch Billy Connolly stand-up routines is, believe me, a MASSIVE rabbit hole. He's been doing this for around 40 years or more and there are many more on RU-vid to explore and laugh your guts out. None of his routines are scripted and he is often dangerously funny. Dangerous because you could do yourselves a mischief' by laughing too much. PLEASE check out some more of his routines and share your reactions with all of us. A good starting place (for me) would be his excellent routine called 'Colonoscopy'. Many thanks.

National treasure is Billy. He's known for being a story telling comic, the best. For years people always wondered if his stories were true. But he revealed later in life that he just makes most of it up as he goes along. He said it keeps him on his toes as it's scary to go up on stage with no jokes or script and entertain a room or people. And he likes to see where his stories will go as he's telling them. He also does some fantastic documentaries, he's done tons of them.

He did own a baronial home but sold it quite a while ago. Have you seen An Audience With Billy, filmed in front of a celebrity audience in the 80s? There is a hilarious story about incontinence pants. He's the best comedian ever and I was fortunate enough to spend 15 minutes with him, talking, on his last tour of NZ. He's a lovely man, great to talk to and he gives big hugs. We spoke about his Parkinsons and everyday things, no jokes just good conversation. A real highlight to have met him.

Billy Connelly (The Big Yin) does indeed have a Scottish castle. He has done a few Hollywood films (The Last Samurai, Disney's Brave, The Man Who Sued God). He has done TV series traveling on his trike motorcycle along Rout 66 meeting interesting and sometimes strange people. Done the same in Australia. He plays the banjo and loves Irish folk and bluegrass music. An all round entertainer and a true son of Scotland.

He is a genius Comedy Gold. Sadly suffering with dementia now. He's done a lot of travel with Billy shows like "the World Tour of Scotland ans another where he rode Route 66 Chicago to LA on a Harley trike. No stand up comedy but conversations with local people that will make you cry laughing. In the world tour of Scotland he stood on a liece of wasteland in Glasgow and said. "This is where the tenament building where I lived was. Built in 1946 Demolished in 1979. In the next shot on another part of Glasgow he said " This is the house where John Knox lived"(Knox was a government minister and prebestrian preacher to Mary Queen of Scots) he died in 1572."built in 1509 and still here today. What I want to know is What did they know about building in 1509 that they didn't know in 1946!" Enjoyed your reaction.😊

Billy wasn't a rocker in his 20's, he was a folk singer that told stories in between songs. The laughs got bigger and the comedy eventually outgrew the music. He's got lots of albums from the 60's and 70's that anyone outside of Scotland would have no chance of understanding because the Glasgow accent is so thick. He talks about how the 60's changed the world and that he was blessed to be a teenager when Rock n' Roll was invented. Even if you never make another reaction video of him again, look through his back catalogue for his long shows, you'll have a happier life for it.

Billy Connolly has a watered down Glasgow accent now, listen to his early stuff and I bet you can't understand it. And yeah he does live in a Castle type house, not bad for a shipyard welder eh?😁 Watch an Audience with Billy Connolly, it's performed in front of a Star studded audience of the great and good of 1980's UK personalities.👍😂
