24 gold albums (more than Zeppelin, Queen, AC/DC and a bunch of others), 14 platinum albums, and the only thing most people know about Rush is Tom Sawyer or Limelight off corporate radio. It really is unbelievable how Rush was written out of the rock narrative.

Rush has the most consecutive gold and platinum albums of any band, after The Beatles and Rolling Stones. The critics can write them out of the narrative, but the narrative is still there. It's kinda like Trump wanting to stop testing for Covid-19. It's not going to make it disappear.

There's one Rush song that really get's my blood moving because it describes my teenage years so perfectly, and that's Subdivisions. Almost every word in that track fits how my highschool days were. *In the basement bars, in the backs of cars, be cool or be cast out* Gives me chills just repeating that one line, or *Drawn like moths, we drift into the city, The timeless old attraction, Cruising for the action, Lit up like a firefly, Just to feel the living night* is exactly what we did. We all piled into my car and headed downtown and just cruised, parked and hung out, made new friends from other schools and when it was all over for the night, we headed back out of town to go home.

I've mentioned this to another comment on another video. Most media hated prog in general, thinking it too self-indulgent, which is why they loved punk. Rush, Yes, Genesis, Crimson, ELP all got hate from mainstream music media for most of their careers, and they still persevered and all have sold millions upon millions of albums worldwide. Yes, Crimson and Genesis are close to their 50th anniversaries, with ELP soon to follow, and about 4 years after that comes Rush's 50th.

I have to disagree with "they never really used to be a huge popular band." I'd like to know some parameters around this. The majority of Rush's albums went platinum since 1975. I've been going to their shows since the early 80's and the earliest show had a 2nd added date because the first one sold out so quickly. They have commanded huge crowds on every one of their tours and have been thumbing their noses at trends while creating some of their own. They've been popular for a while.

What's also weird is that they never really used to be a huge popular band. Only in the past few years have they started to come around and it's because all the nerdy guys that loved them as kids can now get them in movies, tv shows, and mentioned in songs. I didn't think of it in that perspective when I commented earlier, but I agree, the Terry Brown era is "IT" for me . I understand they needed to part ways with Terry, and they had some really good songs here and there afterward, but I think Rush really found their best groove in the late 70s and early 80s with Broon. I think most fans agree that the Rush/Broon dynamic wasn't working well with Signals. And no matter what they tried to do later, I have to say I couldn't listen to Ged's singing, which sounded way too polite and nasal for me after he wore out his vocal chords. If they needed to hire a fourth member in the later years, I'd have voted for a singer, rather than a keyboard player. I'll admit it would have been very strange to see Rush with a fourth member at all, let alone one singing the old songs while Geddy played bass.

I wore a Rush t-shirt throughout high school and college. Never got a high-five though.

This is a pretty good endorsement of what I have been listening to since 1976...I could not have said it better......"they shoot without shame......."

Can anyone tell what he says (English is not my native language) in 1:49 "There is kind of [and here is the word]" and in 1:59 "There is a [and here is the word] in there". Thank you so much - Rush - what a great band

1:49 (Chirpiness), means cheerful and lively and 1:59 (darkness) opposite of chirpy, so he liked the moodier darker qualities of some Rush songs like Cygnus x-1

what i really hate is what people say about RUSH regarding their different albums like this album sucked or that album sucked..I say bullshit....everything they did was an experimant or an "exercise" in trying to explore different avenues of where they were going.....people that DO bag on RUSH about certain albums , they dont understand RUSH nor will they ever understand RUSH....

Of course, cobain was a huge beatles queen fan, billy loves rush. Nirvana and smashing pumpkins are the same.
