He predicted the death of great alt rock and was dead on. All the greats are gone and we’re left with this watered down wimpy robotic music and I’m just wondering who it actually appeals to.
He didn't predict it, he was just aware of it. As the 90's went on and grunge clones like Bush were being pushed things did get very stale. It's not true that there were no amazing bands anymore, but they were no longer being played on these so-called modern rock radio stations or on MTV. I mean, the mid-to-late 90's had incredible albums that are all now considered classics released by Elliott Smith, Modest Mouse, Neutral Milk Hotel, and Converge. While at the same time fucking Limp Bizkit and all that bullshit was getting all the mainstream attention. I'm no snob and I enjoy all kinds of music and can see talent where it is regardless of whether or not I dig the band (i.e. Korn) but a lot of that Nu-Metal was shit and had no real substance. Billy was reacting towards the coming of that whole thing, and I give him credit for it. There are amazing "rock" bands still making music today, but you need to find them. Beach House, Kurt Vile, Ty Segall, and Converge (still!) put out interesting music that pushes rock forward.
I know it's his shtick but god howard stern makes me uncomfortable. He just says the most disgusting shit. Not many guys would make sexual comments about a 15 year old girl to her face while mentioning the fact they have a 15 year old daughter, but howard stern would. freak
pumpkins didnt die but a lot of teens became depressed pot heads about a year after nirvana's unplugged cd was out, we had no direction, we were latch key kids and didnt want to ever grow up, we just wanted to keep the magic that happened alive the best we could. the pumpkins made alot of that magic

Because he goes back and forth with this I've noticed he gets carried away when he's joking. I hear Billy's reasoning in terms of shaving his head, but I dont buy it. The guy was going bald, and rather than be some ugly guy with a bent scalp, he shaved it.

It amazes me how a creep like Howard was hardly ever called out for his comments during interviews, as if he was God and nobody wanted to confront him. I definitely believe Holes Live Through This, had a lot of Kurt’s touches and input on most of the songs on that album. You can hear his type of flow and cadence on songs like Violet and Doll Parts.
sorry but courtney and eric erlandson wrote those two specific songs before she even started dating him. doll parts was legit written about him fucking this one girl. violet was written about her relationship with billy. nirvana definitely motivated her but kurt wasn’t involved on those songs
