The best one-man show comedian ever to present the Oscars...Billy Crystal. The sing and dance routine that he performed, all on his own in front of a live audience and a live broadcast world wide, is a testament of balls of steel. What an artist: Billy Crystal😂
This was not why he got the hosting job, because the next year there was no host. Billy got the job basically because of Snow White and Rob Lowe! That was such a disaster that the next year he was hired to right the ship, and the rest was history.
Sad we'll never see films of each year of the 80's ever again - such variety. Dead in the water now! No risks taken. Remakes etc - no one is going to the cinema anymore!
LMAO how in holy heck did ROBOCOP not win the Oscar for Sound? The sound work was so good they even gave the film a SPECIAL ACHIEVEMENT Oscar but not best Sound? The Oscars back then, if a movie first won big they for some reason gave the film ALL awards. Just because THE LAST EMPEROR is a gorgeous epic, doesn't mean that automatically the sound was the best that year.
If that makes you feel any better, I'll give you some points that Robocop won a 1988 special achievement Oscar for best sound editing. Just like both Raiders of the Lost Ark in 1982 and The River in 1985 did.
Chevy Chase called Billy Crystal 'Mrs Billy Crystal' and said he was two-faced. For that he deserved to be slapped hard and sworn at. People were so wimpy back then.

And Chevy and Jayni Chase were happily married since 1982. They lived in Bedford, New York with their wonderful children. Sometimes in life, we all make mistakes. And when you think back on those mistakes, you may feel embarrassed. That's a normal feeling. Nobody is perfect and we all make our fair share of mistakes of life. However, if you do not take responsibility for the mistake and do your best to commit it, then you are committing a second mistake. Do the right thing, even though you may feel embarrassed by your previous actions. Don't compound the error.
But maybe it’s the last time he won’t be coming back for a while. Two years later he completed his final film performance for Universal/Carolco’s Oscar nominated family film, Field of Dreams (1989-1990).
The question is why doesnt the Academy allow Billy to host every single show? The 2nd question is does Billy really want to do it anymore? Problem is people who now attend are not anywhere close to the class people that used too attend. Im afraid that we need to leave Billy where he did belong.
Billy butchered many of the nominated names lol. The Last Emperor swept 9/9 but I’m surprised Full Metal Jacket wasn’t nominated for Sound. The Untouchables would have been a deserving nominee as well.
