Now I have this urge to see Tim Allen voice Mike Wazowski.

I liked tim allen better. Besides, mike wazouski was a better role for him

so glad that never happened. totally wrong voice for that character

I cant imagine buzz without a deep voice, it just doesn't work. This is more of a woody kind of voice

I can say Im glad her turned this down, becaus the voice Buzz actually got fits him really well, Im just glad Billy got to be Mike Wasowski, its another great opportunity, and another perfect voice for the character!

This is why I always find screen testing to be so interesting. I love seeing the what if’s or being a part of the what ifs

It's just wrong, Tim Allen is perfect for the character, and Billy Crystal is perfect as Mike. So everything worked out in the end.

Fun fact this test shot was animated by the movie's Supervising Animator, Pete Docter who would later go on to direct the Pixar movie that Billy Crystal did appear in, Monsters, Inc.

Fun fact, Billy Crystal said that after seeing Toy story, turning down the role of buzz lightyear was his biggest mistake

From what I understand, they did the same thing with Woody and lines from Turner and Hooch to win Tom Hanks over.

Billy Crystal would’ve made more sense as Woody than Buzz, but that certainly doesn’t change how well Tom Hanks did.

I can't stop hearing Mike Wazowski when I watch this.

This was done for Robin Williams to get him to play Genie too, animated one of his comedy sets and he loved it, in this case though I'm glad it didn't go to who they first wanted. Tim Allen is perfect (to be fair though in the first go of the story Buzz and Woody had pretty different personalities to what we finally got so _maybe_ it would have worked) but I could see Crystal doing one of the side characters though like Rex, Hamm, or even Mr. Potato Head if circumstances were different.

These animation tests... Not just this one, but all animation tests like this one, where they make an animation of a character over the audio of the voice they want to give to that character (This, Anastasia, The Incredibles, etc.) reminds me a lot of Game Grumps Animated.

Interesting to know that despite Billy Crystal saying he wasn't interested in a role in Toy Story, he said in later years he regretted his decision but was grateful that Pixar still had plans for him in another movie. And sure enough, we know which movie and character he'd be later on...

Wow so happy this didn't happen, and glad they gave him the Monsters Inc role instead.

He was the first one they approached for the role. HOWEVER, the studios originally wanted JIM CARREY for Buzz Lightyear but the studio didn't have enough money for him.
