I saw the original cast with David Alvarez as Billy and he was so incredible. Every time I saw the show after that, the Billy didn't live up to the performance David gave. Especially his angry dance.
Thanks for posting this. I think David Alvarez is the best dancer of all the boys I've ever seen in the role of Billy. Kiril Kulish was a close second, but David ads so many little touches, and is so very perfect in all phases of the dance (notice, for instance how his movements, turns, arms, etc. are all perfectly in time to accent the music in his final turn sequence in this number -- as well as the general grace of his motions). I am not an expert of dance, but I do know when it is done exceptionally well, as is the case here. I was lucky enough to get a bootleg copy of this entire performance, so I can enjoy it whenever I wish. I think it is a shame that no permanent record of any of the original Broadway Billys performances were made officially, as all of the boys were great!
