Emily Xx it actually set in County Durham 1984-1985. You can tell because they have really strong accents unlike in Liverpool where they don't pronounce their "o" as strongly.
That accent is vile she sound a. But northern Irish at points which makes sense because she's American but as a professional actor the accent should be no problem, it's essential to.the story.
Omg are they on pointe badly at 3:24 on purpose? I know they are supposed to be bad dancers, but it's a bit dangerous to do bad pointe. They could break their ankles or damage their feet.
thedancinggymnast It's actually done really well. I was on of the girls that did point work in the show and even though it looks bad, everything we did was done very well and then made to look bad. Never once was I injured or hurt because of it.
This will be 6 minutes that I will never get back. No point in doing Billy Elliot without the proper accent. The woman cannot even sing at all and she was out of time with the music on several occasions.
Why do people in this comment section think that the play is set in Liverpool? It's set in Easington in County Durham, England - completely different part of the country to Liverpool man. Either way, does feel weird listening to Americans trying to pull off the East Durham accent.
EJ Pickering To be honest I did think they were from Liverpool at the start but then I realised they were Geordies not scouses... I had to google it to realise its close to Newcastle 😂
I saw this show when it was in Chicago, and I tried so hard to like it, but I just couldn't. The dancing was great, but the kids' acting (or how they were told to act) was so obnoxious I couldn't see past it. The singing wasn't that great, either. You could tell they hired people solely based on dancing ability and nothing else.
The west end and Broadway is better I think (not in a mean way) but the west end has great singing, dancing, acting and accents. And so does the uk tour 😄
Watch this and then watch ruthie. Listen to her accent and then to ruthie's. The only time I heard a remotely acceptable accent was when Billy said it will be rubbish. And he's a kid. COME ON!
Samara Carlee First of all, that’s in no way racist. Her character is Geordie and the actress is not doing the accent very well. She’s not saying that the accent is ‘bad’, she’s saying that she’s not doing the Geordie accent right.
maybe this is the reason why I love the new Spanish mexican version, 'cause they can't really make Geordie accent but americans neither so... 😂 I do prefer the London Version 👌
just doesnt work in america that accent is horrific!! dont think many americans would understand about a town like easington and the miners strike saw this in england and was one of the best shows ive seen
