Billy and Steve may have been coked out of their minds during the making of Whiplash Smile, but personally it's my favorite of all his records, and in my opinion is ironically also the most cohesive.

Unfortunately this was obvious lip-syncing in a time when lip-syncing was at its height, and it's embarassing to look back and know that we had no clue even as obvious as it is today.
I love the fact that Billy pays homage to the greats that have influenced him. Elviis, Johnnie Ray, Gene Vincent. He later did the same to Jerry Lee Lewis one of the wildest rockers ever to have lived and still alive and kicking piano stools. Billy Idol earns his place as a Rock n Roll great. Very horny too.

A jolly rude gesture Billy made indiscreetly near the start of the song.. I'm not saying it was wrong for him to do this but what a 'rebel' he was.. He was clearly full of self confidence, swagger & fatal charms at this point in his career. In this performance he was clearly miming but doing so with expert timing. He really gives his facial expressions the full monty here too, aided by fab lighting effects giving the look, with his bleach blonde spiked hair, of someone who's touching an electrical live wire (for me anyway!) Sporting tight leather pants with a leather jacket, the traditional 1 gloved hand & a bare chest, this is Billy at his best.. Perhaps the career peak. When I was a teenager in the 80s Billy was one of my idol's. I was then in his 'official fan club' & I received in the mail monthly poster books, stickers & things like that.. He's still great!
Wow, what music, my whole body trembles with happiness and joy. Because I do not like today's music, I landed at the 90's. I used to think that it is normal music. Now I see that it was excellent music. I wished Billy idol and his band 100 times more success. They were great musicians. I love you all. In the past, good musicians got together and formed a band. Today, the musicians are all artificial, they are made by invisible people together and have to jump at the touch of a button. With Billy Idol and his band, it's true that they do not make music just for the money. They do it because they want to do it and that brings much better music than the losers of 2018 or 2019. I pray for for Billy and his Band that they have now a good live .
It was 1986 were Billy Idol was here in Dortmund Germany Westfahlenhalle and I can remember when I was a 15 years old teenager and so many stars around there but BILLY was the BEST
@@sticks5614 That is true and Peters Pop Show was in Dortmund in the city where I live and I was there in 1986.We had the german Tv-show FORMEL EINS.That was a great time and I am glad that I have my memories from the 80s💞
@@danielaschwarz1971 I vaguely remember that even though my German isn't that good which is really bad as I lived just up the road from Dortmund from about '86 - '90. We used to go to a nightclub Dortmund which was called "Krypton" I think. Yes the '80's was a great time and though you shouldn't look back I'm afraid I do with the '80's.
Jeez been so long since I've looked at billy and listened to his music. Two years is a long fucking time. Got extremely hooked on him when I was 12 and jeezuz it feels like forever ago...So awesome...So many fangirl moments...
He might be 'Live' as in on the stage but it's all soundtape and precisely like the LP. At least I got a chance to look over Guitar Hero, Steve Stevens. The drummer sells it! Well done, Sir.

This song I am crazy about for 30 years since it was shown on Peter;s pop show on New Year 1986/87/ Believe me , guys , I am spoiled boy as far as different music concern , but this one boost self confidence unprecedented way. Being performed in very epotagious provaked way , this " dont need a gun , Russian roulette no fun" was best fit for revolutionary mood that was in the air for us Russians in mid eithies, in ths time of Perestroyka and lifting Iron Curtain. Billy was once a Punk artist of Generation X. But I'm so glad he went as a rock singer instead. The band is good. But man I'm so glad his solo stuff rocks so much. Because I'm more a fan of rock music. Billy stands out really well as a rock singer I think.
I believe this may have been a lip synced performance in a live setting with live bits edited in ,(like in the "Rebel Yell" and "Mony, Mony" videos.) This song sounds way too much like the studio recording that is on the "Whiplash Smile" album. I know Billy puts a lot into his live performances nowadays but none of his live performances sound almost identical to his recorded albums.
he is changing (behavior) in his performances,interviews and videos in so many and creepy ways .... that every time when I watch him I have feeling that I'm watching someone else .....
