I have sat here for over an hour now watching Billy Idol Interviews and I grew up with him but I don't remember him being so articulate and like you said intelligent! He, even in his very younger years, like age 21, was doing better interviews that any older and wiser person! I was amazed after watching a few how AMAZINGLY INTELLIGENT he is! Very educated.... even as a young boy! I was watching him in a 1977 interview and he just blew me away! He's like early 20's and so spot on with his answers. NOT SOME PUNK KID.... that's for sure!
Yea, real empathetic guy while putting cigarettes out on his girlfriend's arms when he lived in NYC......not to mention the fact he was never faithful in any relationship. A real empathetic kind of guy
@@b4ubcomeold He grew up being really into reading. He even was an English Literature major in college, but dropped out early to pursue music. Usually people that are well-read naturally become quite knowledgeable and articulate.
@@arnarne From actual people that lived in the same apartment with him in NYC. They showed me pics with him in them. Why the hell would I just randomly pick Billy Freakin Idol just to make up some junk about. Billy's ex that lived with him a bit plus my bud that attempted to beat Billy over doing that only to have Billy run and hide have vouched for that.....but keep moving, nothing to see......your not going to believe any of the F*cked up things Billy used to do, someone you've never even met.
At that time, PM of the UK, Margaret Thatcher famously said "there's no such thing as society, only individuals". If Billy said "we live in a society", he was probably responding to that Thatcherite/Reaganite ideology.
Reagan and Thatchers refered to a broken society, by telling this. Billy Idol are part of that broken, yet existing society, were they live in, so they don't gave up on it. That's why they remained living in Reaganite society and get their $$$...
When he was young he was usually stoned out of his mind in interviews and still came off as intelligent and gave well thought out responses to questions.
Sammie Baxter Yep.he was lit there. Born in 68 I grew up in the mtv birth in my younger years but I still love White Wedding,Rebel Yell and a few more of his songs, even the remakes. Rock on you lil freak! And your older than me!!!!
He was my first real crush and total rush of a heartbeat when ever I saw him. He also said " My fans aren't just fans ...they're all my friends. I really care about them."
Yes his face in the 80's and from 1995 are the most beautiful faces I have ever seen, utter perfection. Time really is a bitch, its sad its all in the past...
Oh gosh I would deck someone if they laughed at him!!!!! Have to say I've never done that but got to see him in Roseburg Oregon. Roughly twenty-four thousand hands in the air. I stood by their RV, with my Led Zeppelin shirt on waiting for a friend. To my amazement, like one song into the concert, his guitar player Steve who he's been with for 20-plus years, way more than that now, did an amazing, I mean amazing intro ripping to over the hills and far away❤❤❤❤.... nothing but love for Billy Idol and his band. They put on an amazing concert, in a very small town. I will never forget it, ever!!!!!!!❤
I'm so happy he did though lol. I definitely didn't look for these interviews to hear the interviewers :) It's like watching a Marilyn Manson interview... there's a massive disconnect between what you see and what you hear - love it@@irened.
I am mad about blond guys, and I find him very sexy here. I love Rutger Hauer , Dolph Lundgren, Richard Page, Paul Bettany etc..lol I never used to think Billy Idol was much but I was wrong, he was hawt.
Finally a person that gets it. No you shouldn't put people down. You should hold their government accountable. That's the truth. Government's, mainstream media and social media are what's wrong with the world and the absence of parents.
+Kimberly Vera except his natural hair color is not blonde, he has been over-bleaching his hair for the past 40 years now. But he was still cute. He would have looked better with darker hair actually.
Well he succeeded in making it mean something! I was 5 when this interview was recorded, sitting at home, coloring and singing along with him to make myself feel better from having fucked up parents. Billy forever! 🖤
hard to believe he's around 30 here(29 to be exact) he looks much younger. He's probably high but still intelligent . I've always had love & admiration for Billy!!😍
Being quite a religious man myself, I have never ever heard a single Christian priest or pastor ever utter the words - "The cross ✝️ is a symbol of life" like how Billy says it so rightly from his heart. I adore Billy for having the spiritual fortitude and insight to say something so powerful about the cross, about which the whole world is totally ignorant about including the so called Christians. Long live Billy Idol🎸🎤 and his never ending legacy 🙏🙏🙏
Nice reply....being a Christian myself I've always known the cross to symbolize life.....through forgiveness of sin by the shedding of blood ( that's how they did it back then...." There is no forgiveness of sin without the shedding of blood. ...) Where you're "dead" wrong is that most Christians are ignorant of that ........most Christians are NOT IGNORANT of that 🤔, and how you come to that conclusion baffles me seeing as that is the very foundation of our faith......I've never met one in 69 yrs....Good bless
@@williampickrell2096Consider yourself lucky if you found anyone who would say that the Cross represents life. Because I have never heard any of even the famous pastors or priests spelling out these words till date. Including myself, most of the Christians used to believe what was written in the bible which is that Jesus' death on the cross symbolized the destruction of Satan's dominion over the human race and that Jesus' death on Skull mountain also meant that his death had pierced the skull of Satan. But when someone like Billy Idol whom the world sees as a mere musician who is into punk rock, rock n' roll, drugs and booze speaking such holy majestic words really should speak volumes of such people. And i.e., such people are much better than these holier-than-thou claiming fake Christians. And sadly, you sound like one too!
Sliced and diced this interview. Wonder what was cut. At least she allows him to speak, unlike other interviewers who constantly interrupt. Rock on, Billy.
Я обожаю его песни! Глаза без лица, это шедевр! Привет всем из Москвы!🎉 Хочу дополнить свой комментарий. Сегодня по местному радио играла "Глаза без лица" спасибо диджей!
Billie is a genuine dude, he has attitude but it’s charm, he’s not ignorant about it either but in fact intelligent, he doesn’t look for a fight and that’s why he’s so well received. Rock on rebel yell
@@tintomara6209 : Agreed! But Billy Idol is also OK: he was part of the Bromley Contingent of early punks together with Siouxsie Sioux, Su Catwoman and several others who were around the Sex Pistols at the time and he knew Sid since before him joining the band!
@@filipematias5127 What you say about the Bromley Contingent is true and gives Billy serious credibility. However,I can't help feeling he cashed in that ticket long ago.The thing is,punk was supposed to be anti stardom and a reaction to all the tedious, bloated rock star excess that came before. And yet Billy ultimately embraced it all wholeheartedly, without ever really having anything worthwhile to say.True, the Clash embraced it too,but at least Joe Strummer ultimately realised they had become a travesty!
Yes indeed, I agree with many of the previous posts that he is one gorgeous, hot guy!! But more importantly, he revealed that he was very intelligent, articulate, and talented. He was able to explicate the concerns and express the culture of working class punk rockers and situate himself within a transnational identity. I really like that he spoke up about America bashing, all the while looking so hawt!! I bet that interviewer was steaming, creaming, and dreaming!!
He really took to the US and never looked back. Just like John Lennon did. I appreciated him defending the US as well. He gets it. What a time to be living, back in NYC then. It was amazing.
+Suzibird307 I know this is a very very old comment but just in case you read this, I was wondering do you know where he lives now? Is he still in NYC? :)
He was high as ****, but still managed to at least elucidate his points about his attitude enough to not look like an idiot. Thing is, when you have a style like he did (or still does perhaps), you have to find a way to stick to it for it to be effective and not come off as though it's just all a stage costume. He seems to have done that. If you watch a more recent interview, it seems like he's stuck to his guns, so to speak. Interesting.
Billy: "Also, um, it's good fun making fun of show business, I'm not in to show business, I'm in to rock n roll". Probably the best quote from B.I. I have ever heard him say.
wow 21 now & getting into his music deeply rn im happy to see im listening to someone who stands for good things and is so intelligent and beautiful asf too 💖
Pontiac Bandit: I believe that BI still enjoys his jollies with weed, perhaps...but heavy drugs and partying are no longer of interest to him. He's been there and done that, so there's no need for him to continue in that self destructive groove. ♐ He's great!
Seriously! I wish more guys would realize it's okay for them to wear makeup. Truthfully, a lot of the guys I see wearing makeup look better with it, than I do. xD
He really always has had a very decent heart. He's always been a genius and still has his voice. He kept a certain image, but his shyness shows a certain guileless humility beneath it. ...and he refuses to do the drugs Elvis did. 😂
Omg what an absolutely beautiful person. I love how intelligent, smart, & funny Billy Idol actually is as a person so much compassion he feels about the things that are and have been a part if his life. #Love #BillyIdol
Great guy and great interview! Billy was the 80's so original. When I was a kid in the 80's I hoped he was a vampire because for some reason I was in soo into vampires... Series like "The little vampire" or Christopher Lee contributed to my passion back then. Good old 80s, miss ya!
Looking back at this, I admire his passion and his beliefs, yes he was young and naive, but we’ve all been there, but the pressure of stardom has a lot to answer for! I think he was frickin awesome and did himself proud!! Do what makes you happy, not everyone else! I admire this awesome man, and don’t condone the drugs he took…it made him, him!! ❤
He’s so interesting to listen to, because he speaks his mind and the truth and what’s real and doesn’t care what anyone thinks about it.....he’s a very unique person
I remember this one. Thank you so much for sharing this awesome clip of Billy Idol Interview. Amazing still till this day. God bless you all and rock n' roll! Amen
I was very surprised by Billy accent when I saw an interview of him years ago,, he is very well spoken,, almost a plummy accent,,and yes he definitely has the attitude.. He was and still is a handsome guy.
Saw him so many times in concert when we both lived in NYC . I always wished I had of bumped into him on the street. We could've had some fun. Hated it when he left NY for L.A. ugh
